It is often said that “today is the first day of the rest of your life” and, at “Honu Cove” on the majestic North Shore of Kaua’i, your days foretell of a lifetime together of beauty and the “Aloha Spirit.”

"Honu Cove" is a gorgeous top floor, end unit in the Pali Ke Kua complex (unit 227) in Princeville with the most expansive ocean views you'll ever see. It has all the amenities of a “true” 2-bedroom condo, but since the upstairs bedroom doesn’t have a door, we are required to call it a “loft”. The unit is situated on a cliff above a picturesque ocean cove where giant Green Sea Turtles ("Honu" in Hawaiian) frequently swim and feed on the tender seaweed that grows on the rocks. Slightly further out to sea, Humpback Whales regularly swim by during the winter months. And you can view this amazing wildlife on a daily basis from your own beautiful lanai or even from your kitchen table. Oh, and did I mention that there are views of deep green mountains and waterfalls from the master bedroom and, just across the cove, you can see the 7th green/8th tee of the famed Princeville Makai Ocean golf course? It's all true. Simply put, the amazing views and opportunities for wildlife viewing from this condo cannot be paralleled anywhere.

Of course, you come to Kauai to get in the ocean and this condo complex offers something almost no other complex in Princeville offers... a PAVED path to the beach (most others have dirt paths that get very slippery). The paved path goes directly from the complex to the private and nearly-deserted Pali Ke Kua beach which is great for snorkeling or just relaxing (we almost always see Green Sea Turtles while snorkeling there!).

The views and beach access alone would be enough for you to fall in love with this incredible home, but there's so much more. This 1 bedroom + loft unit with 2 full bathrooms has just undergone a massive top-to-bottom renovation. The unit sleeps 4 comfortably and is ideal for couples or small families. The master bedroom has a new, 4-poster, king-sized bed with beautiful matching dresser and nightstands. The 2nd bedroom in the loft has a queen-sized bed with matching furniture. Each bedroom has a full adjoining bathroom with shower that has been completely remodeled with new granite-top vanities and new tile showers and floors. There’s a gorgeous gourmet kitchen with all new cabinetry, granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. The dining area, with its new glass-top dining set, is surrounded by windows on 3 sides, each with a gorgeous view. Of course, if you’d prefer to dine al fresco, there is a patio table and chairs on the lanai that allows for unrestricted views of the ocean (and, quite possibly, turtles or whales) while you dine. Back inside, there’s gorgeous cherry hardwood flooring throughout the unit. The unit also offers cable TV, complementary wireless Internet and telephone with complementary free long distance to the mainland.

You may have heard about the famed "Bali Hai" sunset as viewed from the exclusive St. Regis Princeville Resort 1/2 mile down the road, but you can marvel at this same sunset just a few steps from your condo. As the sun begins to set, grab your beach chairs (provided) and walk 50 feet out to a beautiful grassy point where you will view one of the most magnificent sunsets in the world. And, while some postings advertise Bali Hai views directly from the condo, keep in mind that Bali Hai is due west of the complex and, by definition, a Bali Hai view means hot afternoon sun in your unit every day. One of the magical qualities of this particular unit is that it has an eastern exposure for cool afternoons on your lanai, but it also has Bali Hai views just 50 feet away. It’s the best of both worlds.

Head just down the road to the luxury of the St. Regis Princeville Resort for dinner or entertainment. Of course, there’s always the wonderful restaurants in Princeville or Hanalei. Or, maybe you'd rather just enjoy a quiet evening at home and cook a beautiful dinner with fresh fish from the Hanalei Dolphin Fish Market (the freshest fish in town). Sometimes that seems to be the best choice of all.

  • Like many of you likely reading this review, we spent hours and hours trying to "discover" the perfect place for our honeymoon in Hawaii. At the end, we have to admit we just sort of picked one based on the quality of the photos on the website. It all worked out great though! We absolutely loved our stay at "Honu Cove". This is just the kind of place that makes you want to come back in the evening to enjoy the cool breezes and sound of the ocean outside. Most evenings we actually chose to grill some fresh fish at the condo rather than eating out. The kitchen is fantastic, with a great view of the ocean and sunrises. Sunsets are just steps away on a grassy point around the corner. The beds are extremely comfortable. Pali Ke Kua complex is in a great location at the far end of Princeville. The Westin is quite close (we recommend you crash their pool and happy hour one afternoon!). Hanalei is a 10 minute drive - really the best little downtown on the whole island. Hideaway Beach was our favorite for just relaxing with a book and snorkeling. It is just a short (but steep) walk on a nice paved path that is reserved for Pali Ke Kua residents. In ten minutes you can be parked at Anini Beach or Hanalei Bay. The condo has very nice wood floors and is furnished nicely throughout - and we worried about tracking sand or damaging things more than anything. It could use a way to better darken the bedroom at night, and the construction crew that rented the unit next door the last two nights of our stay were our only complaints. Be aware that in Hawaii most places for rent are not air-conditioned so you have a lot of open windows which leads to noise being carried between units. This is not unique to Honu Cove and all these criticisms should be considered minor. Everything was exactly as listed and the owners were excellent to work with. We highly recommend this property.

  • My Wife and I stayed at this condo Mar. 14-Mar 23, 2009. It was near end the tail season of the winter so we had a few raining days. Nevertheless it was spectacular. The condo is very well furnished, extremely comfortable and the location and view are spectacular. Myself being am amateur chef, made my wife and I many wonderful meals while we were there. The Kitchen was fantastic. Every morning we ate on the patio overlooking the ocean below. I particularly loved opening the vents below all the main windows to hear the ocean every night. A particularly favorite feature for my wife and I is the location. Its in Princeville on the north end of Kauai. Centered between some of the best beaches (Tunnels for snorkeling and Keel for swimming-bird watching) and then Secret Beach and the lava pools near Kilauea. Also it is situated near the quaint quiet city of Hanalei which has wonderful shopping and restaurants but is not very large or commercial. In fact the entire region is not very commercial at all and has a quaint and quiet feeling to it. Also, the condo is about a mile walk from Queens Bath Lava pools. I would strongly recommend this to couples who want to get some place quiet, peaceful and close to excellent adventure activities. There are actually a lot of adult activities nearby including hiking, kayaking, canoeing, golfing among the standard surfing, etc. Anyway, its beautiful, serene and the condo is extremely comfortable and relaxing. The location though is spectacular.
