Sunrise Beach Gig Harbor Beach Front Home with Mt Rainier View
- Minimum stay:1-3 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Just 5 minutes outside the heart of Gig Harbor and 15 minutes from the Narrows Bridge is Sunrise Beach. The view is so beautiful that it takes your breath away! The Sunrise Beach enclave of 22 homes was established at the turn of the century. It was accessable only by boat until 1960.
Originally built in 1924 at the water's edge the home was completely remodeled in 2006. It boasts a beautiful kitchen with large great room all with 180+ degree views of the Puget Sound. The home has slate floors, granite counters and stainless appliances. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and the second bedroom has bunk beds which are un-stackable. Large comfy couch can sleep two and Aerobed inflatable mattress in the closet for larger groups. Large bathroom with two sinks, double headed slate shower and washer and dryer. Detached large two car garage with tv/bonus area in the back. Great getaway for the kids. This garage has no facilities but has two convertible futon couches. The home's large wrap around deck is right on the bulkhead! Full under cover outdoor couch on the deck summer months with infrared heaters to let you enjoy the beautiful view longer.
At low tide there are miles of walking beaches each direction to collect shells and other treasures. At high tide the water gently splashes against the bulkhead. Sunrise Beach county park is a short walk away. The best diving spot in the area with a 30-60 foot deep reef running 200 feet along the shore (Google Sunrise Beach WA Diving). Dive boats drop divers most weekends at the reef - fun to watch or join them. A Buoy for mooring your boat.
Feels like the San Juan Islands (80 miles north by boat)without having to travel and negotiate the ferries. Tacoma waterfront restaurants are 15 minutes away by boat and they have docks. Eagles, seagulls, seals, and the occasional whale travel Colvos passage between the beach home and Vashon Island. Kayaks and big boats travel by constantly. 180+ degree view of it all inside or outside of this beautiful home.
Large new hot tub next to the water to enjoy a glass of wine while watching the beautiful sunset reflecting off of Mt. Rainier and the full moon rising shortly after. Wake up to the increadible sunrise on Sunrise Beach! Email us for more incredible photos. Your stay will be unforgettable.

The cottage was pristine and comfortable. Features such as wireless wifi, kitchen ammenities, and outdoor seating were excellent. There were so many seating options inside and out that is was hard to find time to use all of them. The wildlife - deer, eagle, owl, seal - was an unexpected perk. Would highly recommend this listing.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Hi Annette! Thank you for the nice review. We have heard the owls but have never seen them. They must have a nest in the woods behind Sunrise Beach. There are lots of little and big fish in the water running this time of year so we have lots of birds. My favorite are the bald eagles and osprey but the seagulls don't like them. Hope to see you back soon! - John and Shelley

The pictures didn't prepare us for the amazing view and the comforts of the house. The house is filled with everything we could possibly have desired during our visit. But we didn't have to be concerned, because we sat on the porch, looking out at the breathtaking view of Mt Rainier, Vashon Island and the Tacoma Narrows almost the entire time. We saw a sea otter, sea lion, seals, golden AND bald eagles and countless birds and ducks that kept us constantly entertained. It was so peaceful, quiet and beautiful, we didn't want to leave. Great accommodations with a beautiful kitchen, generous couches and chairs, games and a hot tub that was divine. They have thought of everything you'd need. Can't praise the Sunrise Beach house enough. Since it's only an hour away from our home, we'll be back for quick getaways soon.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Hi Pat - Thank you for the great review! The next door neighbor is a noted nature photographer and much of her work was taken at Sunrise Beach. The pictures of killer whales on the fridge were taken by her from the bulkhead. We only see killer whales when a pod ventures south which is once a year or so. We have a sea otter that heads south in the morning and north in the evening. Deer are a sure bet almost every morning at sunrise. They head to the beach to get water from the stream next to us. We look forward to your next visit!

The house is simply perfect. We had great weather for April. Even though it was chilly, you couldn't keep us off the gorgeous deck! The overhead space heater helped, too. The beds and linens were super comfy. The kitchen is amazing! And the play-room garage was a hit with the ping pong table and air hockey. This house is a great value given the gorgeous setting, quality of furnishings and appliances, and bonuses like the hot tub and play room. You won't be disappointed!! Minor note: It's too bad there isn't a small bathroom in the detached play-room (located up a flight of stairs, outside). We didn't need to take advantage of the extra sleeping quarters, so it made no difference to us, but I thought I'd point it out for those who might want to know that.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Hi Kim, Thank you for the review. We are glad you were able to make use of the overhead space heaters. With the big fuzzy blankets off the couch and a glass of red wine we have stayed up late on the deck. I check the moon rise time table and will always stay out for the full moon. The detached garage/playroom is a great place to hang out but it is not set up for sleeping even though we have futons and a large couch. The beach house can sleep (4) in beds and (2) on the couch and air bed. We look forward to having you again soon!

We loved our recent stay in the Sunrise Beach home. The views are incredible, the seashells plentiful, and the beach decor in the home made for a pleasant weekend stay in April. Our kids loved the game room and enjoyed seeing wildlife and sea animals from the covered deck and cooking smores in the fire pit. The owners were wonderful to work with and quick to reply to any needs we had. We could relax, play games, and listen to the sound of the water, seabirds and April rain. We loved using the hot tub at night after returning from a dance competition in Tacoma. Very peaceful and relaxing. We would highly recommend this vacation home to everyone and we will definitely return again in the future. :)Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Hi Jinger! You did use the Beach House to its fullest! Glad we could get the high speed WiFi back up. Next visit you need to take the family on a long beach hike. We have miles of natural beach for nature hikes. One of my favorite spots is about 1 mile south down the beach where a stream runs into Puget Sound. John and Shelley

What a fabulous home away from home this is. The house is beautiful with lovely green and blues throughout. I really dislike staying in a place that makes you feel you've gone back in time. I so appreciated the current and warm decor. It is well stocked with the basics and the kitchen is fabulous. Of course, my favorite aspect of this home was the view! It just doesn't get any better! We came by boat and tied up to their buoy, which made our stay even more enjoyable. Thanks for sharing your home with us!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Hi Michele! Thank you for the great review. One of our favorite activities at the beach house is running a boat 10 minutes across the Sound to the Tacoma waterfront restaurants. Faster than driving. We hope to have you back soon!

We spent Presidents' Day weekend and thoroughly enjoyed this house! So many throw blankets & pillows, we played Scrabble for hours & took many long walks along the beach with the tide was low. We watched movies, played ping-pong and enjoyed the hot tub throughout the weekend. We can't wait to return!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We had a great time at this beach house. The place was clean and had all the amenities that we needed. The water view is spectacular and the deck is to die for. Again, a great place for a relaxing weekend. Also, the hot tub was fantastic!!! I highly recommend this place - don't hesitate. The owner is really easy to work with and willing to help in any way.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Hi Lela - Thank you for the great review! The beach house is a special place. We hope to see you and your group back soon. Next time I hope you can walk the miles of pristine beach. - John and Shelley

We are a small nonprofit and had our annual staff retreat there. The living room and kitchen were great for work activities, and the view was wonderful. There was more than enough room for us to sleep (five people comfortably!) and we had some great staff bonding time as well. It was nice to have a full kitchen. We would definitely come again!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My family and I really enjoyed staying at the beach house. The views out of the large windows are just breathtaking, and wonderful to wake up to. Two of the mornings when we woke up we had absolutely gorgeous views of Mt. Ranier (the other mornings it was foggy), and we even saw some seals out in the water playing around and catching fish. The house was cozy, clean and tidy, with everything we needed for a home away from home for our vacation. I wouldn't recommend the house only for someone who has mobility issues due to the steep and narrow staircase, but if stairs aren't an issue I'd definitely recommend it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: John and Shelley - we enjoy our beach house as much as our guests! We chose Sunrise Beach because it has it all - Great views, on the water, sandy beach, miles of walking beaches, history, close to everything.
Why the Owner Chose Gig Harbor:
The view was first discovered and documented by Captain Vancouver's 1792 expedition. There is a large historical marker from 1930 on the spot where the expedition made their sketch of Mt. Rainier in the ship's journal. The Tacoma Historical Society in 1930 matched the spot to the sketch. The marker says 'May 26, 1782; John Sykes Vancouver expedition sketched the bay and the mountain from this site. Aug 22, 1853; Theodore Winthrop crossed from the west passage to the Narrows. He saw the reflection of the mountain on the water and wrote: 'The Siwash call it Tacoma''
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The beach house is so relaxing. It is at the end of Sunrise Beach Drive so there is never any road noise. You are at the waters edge to just sit back and enjoy. The amenities of Costco, Albertson's, and Starbucks are 5 miles away.
