My Winter Stay in Cheshire

The property was accurately described in every respect; one of the nicest features of the house is its layout: the the cozy living/dining area and office "corner" all look out to the lake and mountains, offering a spectacular view all around. Even while watching t.v., one could still enjoy the scenery. I visited while the weather was 15-23 degrees and the heating system in the house was excellent, and having an enclosed garage with automatic garage door opener was a great feature. I felt sorry for those who in the morning had to scrape the snow and ice off their vehicles. And having a nice computer with internet access and cable t.v. were a definite plus. The location of the house was just what I wanted & enjoy: tucked away enough to feel "away from the maddening crowd", but close to everything within a 10-15 minute drive. Beautiful parks, trails, and historical towns are within easy reach, too, including skiing and snowshoeing. I highly recommend Canterbury Farms in Becket for cross-country or snowshoeing. They have acres and acres of beautiful forrested land and the drive to get there was exciting as well. There are plenty of local restaurants nearby the house and gourmet ones within short distances. Because it was my first time driving solo in snow, I missed out on many places I could have visited, including what I am told is a beautiful scenic drive along Rte. 2 known as the Mowhack Trail.Oveall, I enjoyed my stay tremendously and hope to return in the near future.

We stayed in this adorable mountain house for a long weekend, and it was absolutely perfect for our group. Cozy, room for cooking, stunning views of the lake (and a great deck for up close and personal scenery), and conveniently close to Jiminy Peak mountain for skiing. Would definitely go back there!

We enjoyed our short stay in the Berkshires very much! It was a great getaway time for us after a busy bustle in Boston. Your house is comfortable for relaxing and we especially enjoyed using your well equipped kitchen for cooking some really good home-made dinners. The weather was less than ideal, but the house is cozy and at the same time provides a great connection to the outdoors, even if you stay in. We were able to get to the top of Mt. Greylock and see some spectacular views, and stole a moment of sunshine to try out a kayak on the water. We would recommend your home to others who want to enjoy a weekend in the Berkshires any time of year.

This house was a sweet retreat for my husband and I. It's modest and comfortable. We especially loved going down to the water's edge in the morning with a cup of coffee, and watching the ducks and geese on the lake. So many things to do in the area, from biking to hiking to sightseeing. We highly recommend taking the rowboat out on the lake! (FYI: Taking the boat down to the water requires strong arms and some maneuvering through the wire fence.)

I travelled all the way from Switzerland to the Berkshires and this country house contributed to making my stay truly wonderful. The house is beautifully located with views of the lake and surrounding woods. It is well equipped and comfortable. And for those of you who like going out and discovering new places there's something for every taste, nearby.

Great place, very well equipped and designed for convenience. I'll never forget sitting out on the decking watching the woodpeckers over breakfast. The weather could have been better - but in bad weather, a house like this is the place to be!
Owner response:Thanks South Londoner--glad you enjoyed the house! Sorry about the weather. It's usually pretty nice in the Berkshires at that time of year. I'll try to arrange better weather next time!

Had a great week in Cheshire. The house had everything we needed inside and was well situated near bike path and Appalachian Trail. Lakefront location made it easy for us to use our kayaks from backyard. Easy drive to Lenox and Williamstown. Great views of lake from the living room and deck.

My family stayed here for a week in June '07. We enjoyed every minute we stayed. The house is on a quiet dead end street and is right on the lake. The house had all the modern amenities we could ask for including cable TV and wireless internet. The house is in a great location, close to anything you want to see in the beautiful Berkshires! We are looking forward to our next visit.
