Gulf Sounds, the "TREASURE" of Treasure Island beach cottages, is only an easy and safe 30 yard stroll to the beach boardwalk and the pristine beaches of Treasure Island. Our bungalow/cottage is one of 4 in a small, intimate resort and is very private yet in the middle of all the activities of Treasure Island and Madeira Beach. You can access the beach in less than a minute and easily walk to World Famous John's Pass with its numerous fresh seafood restaurants, unique shops, ice cream parlors, chartered fishing boats,and waterfront bars. The Beach trolley stops at our corner, so you can visit all the beaches for one low fare per day. A public boat ramp is across the street and we have parking for your small boat trailer. Small dogs may be accommodated with owners prior approval and the payment of a pet fee.
Our charming Key West style 2 bedroom, 1 bath cottage has almost 700 square feet and has been recently repainted and redecorated with newer furnishings. Our cottage offers beautiful oak hardwood floors, a tiled kitchen and bath, a queen sleeper sofa love seat, a comfortable side chair, coffee and end tables in the living room, and seating for four in the dining area. Gulf Sounds is lushly landscaped and offers a covered patio and charcoal barbeque grill, a second floor sundeck, outside shower, and a fully fenced property that provides exceptional privacy.

Why the Owner Chose Treasure Island
We have always felt at home in Treasure Island. We live only a short distance from Gulf Sounds now. In the 1980's, my wife and I owned our first two homes in Treasure Island and my grandfather was Mayor of Treasure Island in the 1950's. As a Michigander in my very early years, we vacationed in TI every year for 20 years. The people of Treasure Island are friendly and welcoming, and the beautiful white sand beaches are unsurpassed. And when we want to get away for a weekend...its always Gulf Sounds.

We were searching for the quiet place with a small private yard because we have a baby. And it was! Everything was perfect, beach is just few steps away and almost private cause there is no big hotels nearby. The only thing the house is directly on the Gulf Blvd. and it was a bit noisy at night. The location is very convenient. St. Petersburg has few nice gardens and state parks where you can enjoy the green and different animals. There are some bars for young people around with live music.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+.

It's hard to know what you're really going to get when all is done over the phone and internet these days. In this case, we were so pleased. The owner was so nice to work with and was able to meet our every request, even with some last minute changes. Not only was the owner/management a pleasure to work with, the cottage was wonderful, as well: very nicely appointed; furniture, colors, paint were all bright and cheery; very close to the nice clean beach (no streets to cross!); very clean; reasonable rates. We had such a lovely visit and will definitely refer (as we were referred from a prior guest) others, as well.

This guest and another relative rented two cottages and were in town to celebrate a wedding. Gulf Sounds is the perfect setting for several families to gather for special occasions like weddings, birthdays, or reunions. Families can relax together in our covered patio area or on the beach and then retire to their own separate cottages.

I brought my family in June of 2010. Upon arriving to the cottage, we had to turn the air on and leave until it was cool enough to stay. It was horribly hot inside and someone should have been to the cottage before we arrived to cool it down. The hardwood floors were sandy and I had a hard time letting my baby crawl on the floor. I did find a small broom in the pantry closet but no dust pan came along with it. The T.V. in the living room was the only one in the house and it was small and outdated. Our bedroom window was directly facing Gulf Boulevard and very noisy. The cottage furniture was old and uncomfortable. The beds were ok. and on the good side it was very close to the beach, grocery store, and St.John's Pass. It was good for the price but next time I will pay more to stay in cleaner more comfortable accomodations.
Owner response:A negative review is difficult to deal with, especially since this is the first that we have received in over 7 years of owning and operating Gulf Sounds. When our guests are concerned about something and their concerns are expressed to us, we gladly address every issue and fix every problem, quickly. If we only hear about problems after our guests leave we do not have the opportunity to address their concerns. Our cottages are located west of Gulf Blvd. and within an easy walk to the beach. However, as with most condos and motels on the beach In Treasure Island, they are located ON Gulf Blvd. and traffic noise is a reality. Our windows are double paned and we have exceptional insulation so the noise is abated quite well. We find it interesting that our only negative review has come from a guest who was charged for destroying a number of towels in their cottage and for ruining a bedroom blanket by using it on the beach . I guess that it is true that you just cannot please all the people all the time no matter how hard you try. And we do try!
Recommended for:Families with young children, families with teenagers.

A quick walk to John's Pass with a variety of restaurants and shops made this a convenient location. The property is well cared for and the pictures provide you with an accurate reflection of what to expect. We stayed in the second floor rental for a month and it gave us much privacy.
