Stunning, 2BR. Georgian Townhouse Apt. 1/2 Block Central Park
- Minimum stay:4 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Experience New York at its best in this graciously appointed 2-bedroom, 2-bath duplex on one of the prettiest blocks on the Upper West Side just steps from Central Park. This historic Georgian townhouse was commissioned by the Clarke family, who had already built the Dakota, a block away. The architect, Henry Hardenburgh, was inspired by the Georgian Townhouses in London. The apartment has two entrances: one through the main building and the other is a private entrance with French doors that leads into the living room.
Relax in front of the wood burning fireplace in the luxurious antique-filled living room that faces the street with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and dining area with a table that comfortably seats 6-8. Off the living room is a fully equipped gourmet kitchen with a window. A marbled-floor foyer with a coat closet and a full bathroom with high quality Waterworks fixtures and crystal chandelier complete the upstairs floor. A stairway framed with antique Italian and French prints leads to the downstairs. The master bedroom has a king-size bed with Frette linens; a second bedroom has a queen size bed and single trundle bed; and between them there is a large bathroom with Waterworks fixtures and tiles and large shower (upstairs has a bath). A comfortable den decorated in French country style with another wood burning fireplace and 42' flat-screen TV complete the downstairs.
Central Park is 1/2 block away as is Columbus Avenue where you'll find great shopping, restaurants, theatres and nearby Lincoln Center. Museum of Natural History is 3 blocks away as is the New York Historical Center. Convenient to 2 subway lines (B,C and 1,2,3). This is a prime location in NYC.
We rent only to responsible guests who want the best of New York in a quiet, quality environment. Accordingly, we do ask our guests to provide a description of themselves and their party in terms of age, profession and backgrounds. No pets. No young children. No smoking. Minimum four nights.

Rarely do dreams ever actually come true- fantasy always seems to be better than reality- but not in this case. For a milestone birthday, I wanted the opportunity to become a resident of the UWS- if only for the weekend. Sheila and Bill made this happen-with their beautiful home playing a starring role in this dream! As others have said, the pictures are entirely accurate but do not actually give you the idea of how LARGE this home actually is. Absolutely everything inside was 5 star- and the library had all my favorite books and then some! Sheila and Bill are extremely responsive- my email was barely on its way before the answer was coming back to me! Now.....back to reality....but I'll always have the memory of this perfect birthday!!!!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Our family of four had the pleasure of staying in this home during a recent trip to New York City. When we arrived, we were greeted by the owner who had a warming fire in the fireplace and freshly baked cookies waiting in the kitchen. He provided a tour of the home, which has been beautifully renovated and updated. We particularly enjoyed these comfortable surroundings while relaxing and reading in front of the fireplace in the evenings. The house is in a great location between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue. Subway access, entry to Central Park, and the dining on Columbus was all very convenient. We would like to thank the owners, Sheila and Bill, for their generosity during our visit. I recommend this rental without reservation.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing.

We just returned from spending another wonderful vacation in Sheila and Bill's beautiful townhouse. We spent 4 days here last year and couldn't wait to return. Every detail of the apartment is 5 star, from the furnishings to the bedding, soaps and lotions. If that isn't enough, Sheila and Bill always leave a box of amazing cookies for their guests to enjoy. The location is perfect, minutes to Central Park. and less than 2 blocks to the subway. Walk across the park to the Metropolitan, Guggenheim and Frick museums or spend a day exploring Columbus Ave. My girlfriend and I spent a morning in the garment district with Karen Parker with Style Room going to designer showrooms with terrific deals on cashmere sweaters, handbags and scarves. We also saw “Great Job if You Can Get It” with Matthew Broderick and Ioved it. We’re already planning our next year’s vacation and will definitely stay here again!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This townhome in the Upper West Side is absolutely spectacular. Myself, and three female friends have just spent a week in this lovely home. A week is just not long enough. It was such a pleasure, after a long day of New York sightseeing to come home to this quiet street and beautiful, welcoming home. Our hosts, Sheila and Bill, are most gracious and made us feel immediately at home. There were delicious cookies and a bottle of Champagne to greet us. They phoned to check that all was running smoothly and Bill returned on our final morning to carry our suitcases upstairs. I hope to be able to return to New York City in the future (so much more to do and see) and my desire would be to stay here again. Thank you, Sheila and Bill.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Jeri and her friends were a delight to meet. We loved hearing about all the interesting things they managed to pack into a weeks stay. We look forward to seeing them again, soon.

I remember reading reviews about this home and wondering if it could possibly be so wonderful as people said - Yes! We were greeted with a wood-burning fire, delicious cookies, and everything possible to make our stay comfortable. The location couldn't be more convenient, the house itself welcoming and warm. We loved all the books and pictures, fully-equipped kitchen, and little touches like slippers for our use. This hiuse is Immaculately clean and completely comfortable. We fel lucky to have stayed here - made the trip really memorable. Thank you S. and B.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful 10 days in this stunning townhouse on West 74th . We were met by the owner who explained in detail the "workings" of the home so that we never had one question during our stay . The home was immaculate and decorated in Architectural Digest quality. We loved the proximity to Central Park, museums and shopping on Columbus Avenue. There are many wonderful restaurants within just a few blocks . The subway is just 2 blocks south which was very convenient for trips to midtown and the Village . We enjoyed walking in Central Park which is only 1/2 of a block to the east. Along with being very accessible during the reservation process, Bill and Sheila made us feel very welcome with a box of delicious cookies from a bakery in the neighborhood. We would definitely recommend this beautiful property to family and friends.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The apartment is GREAT. As a previous reviewer wrote, "living large" on the Upper West Side. The apartment is even better than the pictures. The main room of the living and dining room is magnificent. Bill and Sheila greeted us on our arrival and showed us the workings of the apt. and are gracious and thoughtful hosts. The location is ideal for the Upper West Side, on a surprisingly quite side street, off of central park. We spent a delightful two weeks, and hope to return again some day.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We rented this townhouse to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary with my sister and her husband. It is hard to believe, but the actual townhouse is sooooo much better than the photos. Stunning is the perfect word to describe both the townhouse and the location. We were close to everything, but the street was so quiet and homey. Loved it! We felt like we were "livin' large" in NYC. Thanks to Bill and Sheila for sharing their home with us.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Three of us spent four blissful nights at this beautiful two-story apartment in April. Everything about our experience was perfect. The location--a half-block to Central Park in one direction and a half-block to Columbus Avenue with lots of great shops and restaurants in the other direction--could not have been better. Though the pictures on VRBO capture the charm and beauty of the apartment, they do not quite convey how spacious it is. Plenty of room for two couples to have their own zones of privacy. And the attention to detail was amazing. Fresh flowers in every room, wine chilling in the fridge and yummy pastries sitting on the counter. Sheila and Bill were the consummate hosts. We can't wait to return.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.
