Why the Owner Chose Sugar Mountain
My husband Don and I had been vacationing many years at Sugar Mountain trying to escape from the summer heat in Daytona Beach. It was so nice to enjoy the small town atmosphere, cool weather in the summer and the beautiful scenery offered everywhere you go. We really enjoy the 4 seasons at Sugar Mountain and couldn't find a vacation we enjoyed more than these mountains. We were hooked, and just had to buy a "PIECE OF PARADISE" here. Now we can share our home with others.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo
The long range unobstructed, panoramic mountain views make this property very unique. This is NOT in a high rise!! We are one of four villas in the building. We are at 5,000 feet altitude and during the hot part of the summer it never gets above 73 degrees. The private wood deck is much larger than most decks around and lots of seating available. The villa is very comfortable with 2 recliners, a comfortable couch and a rocking chair. The 10' ceilings add to the feeling of space and the layout is large and open with lots of glass to take in the views. There are only a few steps to enter from the road and with a rail on each side for easy access.
We are only a 7 minute drive down the mountain to Banner Elk, near all the ammenities.

My wife and i was visiting from Australia and found this condo was a good choice and we enjoyed the location. It was clean had excellent views toward beach mountain. It had free wired internet and was comfortable and accommodating. It matched the advertised description 100%. Plenty of towels, dishes, and basics that make it like home. The decor was with plenty of bears which suited the local wildlife. Electric heaters in the rooms was great for cool mountain nights. Also there is the fireplace. GREAT! We will be returning.

We loved our stay at the this condo. It was very comfortable, clean, well stocked and roomy. There were 5 of us staying in it. My husband and I and our 3 children. We enjoyed family movie night at least 2 nights of our stay. One of those nights we had a fire in the fireplace. There is so much to do close by. One day we visited The Biltmore in Asheville. We didn't get to enjoy the balcony as much as we wanted to because it was still too cool but we enjoyed the view from it. Definitely we plan to come back and stay again. The Barton's were very friendly and very helpful. Very caring owners+very nice condo to rent=excellent vacation!!!

This Condo was a perfect choice and an excellent experience. It was VERY clean, fresh, nicely nestled in the mountain ridge, comfortable and accomodating. It matched the advertised description 100%. Plenty of towels, dishes, and basics that make it like home and easy to enjoy - and no last minute runs to find a corksrew!! Heaters in the bathroom are awesome for cool mountains! Thanks! I would be remiss not to mention the owners. They were polite, professional, friendly and hospitable - yet not intrusive. It was easy to book with very prompt and responses to my questions and my emails. Well done!! - and I look forward to a longer stay in the fall!

Beautiful place, everything as promised and even more. we didnt make it up there on the first day due to ice/snow up the road (didnt have 4 wheel drive). but once we made it up it was beautiful!! the carpet in front of fireplace was wet due a leak in the chimney, but owner was super nice and it was taken care of in no time. we did leave early due to inclement weather approaching, and hated leaving. Felt like home. Super close to shops and skiing and all kinds of great things. Hope to make it back soon!!

We stayed here for three nights and didn't want to leave. It was so comfortable and like home. The view is absolutely amazing! It took our breath away every morning we walked out of the bedroom. We could have sat there and drank coffee all morning just looking out the window. Our two boys (ages 8 & 11) said they thought the condo was beautiful and they want to go back. The beds are so comfortable. Kitchen is fully stocked with nice dishes and appliances. Wood burning fireplace is so cozy. Plenty of nice blankets to snuggle under but really didn't need them. The condo is very warm (even when it was 12 degrees outside). The couch, rugs and carpet look brand new. Very clean and well maintained. We had such a relaxing time. The owners are so friendly and helpful. You can tell they really want you to enjoy yourself. We followed their restaurant recommendations and were very pleased. We wouldn't hesitate to rent this unit again. We didn't have any problem getting up and down the mountain in our front wheel drive van. It snowed twice when we were there but the roads were not bad. Just have to drive slowly and be careful. Great location and very quiet. We slept like logs. Not far from restaurants or grocery store.

We stayed at this awesome condo on Sugar and it was just fabulous.....It was snowing the day we arrived (Nov 6 - very early) and the views were just unbelievable. It was so cozy and the furniture and decorations so quaint. We were lucky enough to call it home for one glorious week. This is the best condo we have ever stayed at on Sugar and this was our 14th time. The owner's were just wonderful to work with as well.....Would stay here again for sure!! Thanks for allowing us the oportunity to be a guest of this wonderful little piece of heaven. Mark and Linda - Florida

t's an easy drive up the mountain. I've been to many other rentals where the roads are absolutely frightening. We got to the door, entered the code and opened the door...Oh my god, is exactly what we said. The view is magnificent, it's the first thing that hits you. Then you realize that the condoi is nicely decorated in a mountain theme. It's clean and fresh and nicely updated. The fireplace is the focal point of the room; it's charming and romantic. The kitchen is more than adequate with everything you need to cook. Entering into the master bedroom, was a delight. Big windows reach across the entire end of the bedroom. The bathroom is just like the pictures. The second bedroom has 2 twin sized beds, again it's very pleasant. We slept like logs. The beds were so comfortable and the area is so peaceful, we've never had a better sleep. The deck is large, has a patio table and chairs, with a view that inspires the phrase - wow, this is the life! I highly recommend this lovely apartment to anyone who is a neat freak. You won't need to feel any anxiety over your accommodations. You'll just love it. Shopping and restaurants are very close. On the way down the mountain towards Boone, you get the grand view of Grandfather mountain. There are beautiful back roads to explore, shopping near by and a wonderful coffee shop. Whether you are a Starbucks fan or a Tim Hortons fan, you will appreciate having your morning coffee at the intersection of 105 and the road to Sugar Mountain (next to McDonalds). It's even close enough to drive down, grab the coffee and take it back to the deck of the condo. The building has only 4 condo units in it; 2 upstairs and 2 down. No elevators to deal with and easy to access. My mother is 70 years old and had no trouble getting up or down the few stairs. The owners, Beth and Don are very friendly, caring and helpful. Equally as pleasant, were the neighbours one floor above. Go ahead and book this place, you will be glad you did. We did not want to leave. Jackie O'Hearn, Brampton, Ontario, Canada

Beth and Don are simply wonderful! Their villa is the most cozy and comfortable place that we've found in this area!!! :) We stayed on Beech Mountain first. It feels kind of run down, the drive up and down the mountain is brutal, and it's a longer drive to everything. It was not nearly as nice and had absolutely no view. On our next visit, we stayed at SugarTop. It had a nice view, but I didn't care for the elevator, it was very dated, and the hallways to the condos just smelled horrible. We found on that trip that we preferred Sugar to Beech without a doubt! It should be noted that the cost was the same for each of these places. Our last visit was to Beth and Don's wonderful villa! The view is breathtaking and all those windows certainly make it the focal point! My husband and I both prefer this view to SugarTop because you're nestled in the trees AND have that spectacular view! Instead of just looking out above it, you're actually a part of it. Everything is so close... just a few minutes to the store and our favorite restaurant, Bella's Italian. There is also an awesome place in Foscoe, Family Billiards, that has the best diner style hamburger we've ever eaten. This place is like a breath of fresh air and owners' hospitality just make it that much better. We will be visiting Beth and Don's villa for years to come and we are so thankful that they have given us the gift of sharing it with them. Oh, and be prepared! The pictures don't do it justice! Also, they take very good care of their villa. Most of the places we stay, it's like when things tear up they just leave them. At SugarTop, the toaster almost caught on fire and set the smoke alarms off. We didn't think anything about it until the desk called and we found that it had been doing that for a long time and no one seemed to care to replace it. Another place had dog pee stains ALL over the carpet. At Gatlinburg, the a/c was not working and it was over 85 degrees in the cabin while we were trying to have a family cookout. Not a big deal... things happen, but when we read the guest book people had been complaining and telling them about it for 3 or 4 years, we were not happy. I understand that it's not always possible to fix everything right when it happens, but they should at least warn renters about big things like that. So, if you're debating where to stay... this is it! :) Heather Heather UpChurch Art & Design Studios www.flickr.com/artanddesignstudios
