Amazing View

Guest: Nichols (Roxboro, NC)
Date of Stay: 04/06/12 Review Submitted: 04/11/12

The first thing my husband and I noticed when we entered the condo was the spectacular view. Words and pictures do not do it justice. The condo was clean and had plenty of nice, fluffy towels. The kitchen was well equipped also. This condo is just a short drive to shopping, restaurants and site seeing areas.

My wife and i was visiting from Australia and found this condo was a good choice and we enjoyed the location. It was clean had excellent views toward beach mountain. It had free wired internet and was comfortable and accommodating. It matched the advertised description 100%. Plenty of towels, dishes, and basics that make it like home. The decor was with plenty of bears which suited the local wildlife. Electric heaters in the rooms was great for cool mountain nights. Also there is the fireplace. GREAT! We will be returning.

An Excellent Choice in Banner Elk!

Date of Stay: 03/19/11 Review Submitted: 03/24/11

This Condo was a perfect choice and an excellent experience. It was VERY clean, fresh, nicely nestled in the mountain ridge, comfortable and accomodating. It matched the advertised description 100%. Plenty of towels, dishes, and basics that make it like home and easy to enjoy - and no last minute runs to find a corksrew!! Heaters in the bathroom are awesome for cool mountains! Thanks! I would be remiss not to mention the owners. They were polite, professional, friendly and hospitable - yet not intrusive. It was easy to book with very prompt and responses to my questions and my emails. Well done!! - and I look forward to a longer stay in the fall!

3/12 thru 3/19 Spring Break Stay

We loved our stay at the this condo. It was very comfortable, clean, well stocked and roomy. There were 5 of us staying in it. My husband and I and our 3 children. We enjoyed family movie night at least 2 nights of our stay. One of those nights we had a fire in the fireplace. There is so much to do close by. One day we visited The Biltmore in Asheville. We didn't get to enjoy the balcony as much as we wanted to because it was still too cool but we enjoyed the view from it. Definitely we plan to come back and stay again. The Barton's were very friendly and very helpful. Very caring owners+very nice condo to rent=excellent vacation!!!

Great Place, Great Owners

Beautiful place, everything as promised and even more. we didnt make it up there on the first day due to ice/snow up the road (didnt have 4 wheel drive). but once we made it up it was beautiful!! the carpet in front of fireplace was wet due a leak in the chimney, but owner was super nice and it was taken care of in no time. we did leave early due to inclement weather approaching, and hated leaving. Felt like home. Super close to shops and skiing and all kinds of great things. Hope to make it back soon!!

Didn't want to leave-so comfortable!

Guest: Julia L. (Southern Pines, NC)
Date of Stay: 01/21/11 Review Submitted: 01/24/11

We stayed here for three nights and didn't want to leave. It was so comfortable and like home. The view is absolutely amazing! It took our breath away every morning we walked out of the bedroom. We could have sat there and drank coffee all morning just looking out the window. Our two boys (ages 8 & 11) said they thought the condo was beautiful and they want to go back. The beds are so comfortable. Kitchen is fully stocked with nice dishes and appliances. Wood burning fireplace is so cozy. Plenty of nice blankets to snuggle under but really didn't need them. The condo is very warm (even when it was 12 degrees outside). The couch, rugs and carpet look brand new. Very clean and well maintained. We had such a relaxing time. The owners are so friendly and helpful. You can tell they really want you to enjoy yourself. We followed their restaurant recommendations and were very pleased. We wouldn't hesitate to rent this unit again. We didn't have any problem getting up and down the mountain in our front wheel drive van. It snowed twice when we were there but the roads were not bad. Just have to drive slowly and be careful. Great location and very quiet. We slept like logs. Not far from restaurants or grocery store.

Top Rate Place on Sugar

Guest: Mark and Linda (Tampa bay, Florida)
Date of Stay: 11/06/10 Review Submitted: 12/02/10

We stayed at this awesome condo on Sugar and it was just fabulous.....It was snowing the day we arrived (Nov 6 - very early) and the views were just unbelievable. It was so cozy and the furniture and decorations so quaint. We were lucky enough to call it home for one glorious week. This is the best condo we have ever stayed at on Sugar and this was our 14th time. The owner's were just wonderful to work with as well.....Would stay here again for sure!! Thanks for allowing us the oportunity to be a guest of this wonderful little piece of heaven. Mark and Linda - Florida

Oh my god! We're in Heaven!

Guest: Jackie O"hearn (Brampton, Ontario)
Date of Stay: 09/11/10 Review Submitted: 10/03/10

t's an easy drive up the mountain. I've been to many other rentals where the roads are absolutely frightening. We got to the door, entered the code and opened the door...Oh my god, is exactly what we said. The view is magnificent, it's the first thing that hits you. Then you realize that the condoi is nicely decorated in a mountain theme. It's clean and fresh and nicely updated. The fireplace is the focal point of the room; it's charming and romantic. The kitchen is more than adequate with everything you need to cook. Entering into the master bedroom, was a delight. Big windows reach across the entire end of the bedroom. The bathroom is just like the pictures. The second bedroom has 2 twin sized beds, again it's very pleasant. We slept like logs. The beds were so comfortable and the area is so peaceful, we've never had a better sleep. The deck is large, has a patio table and chairs, with a view that inspires the phrase - wow, this is the life! I highly recommend this lovely apartment to anyone who is a neat freak. You won't need to feel any anxiety over your accommodations. You'll just love it. Shopping and restaurants are very close. On the way down the mountain towards Boone, you get the grand view of Grandfather mountain. There are beautiful back roads to explore, shopping near by and a wonderful coffee shop. Whether you are a Starbucks fan or a Tim Hortons fan, you will appreciate having your morning coffee at the intersection of 105 and the road to Sugar Mountain (next to McDonalds). It's even close enough to drive down, grab the coffee and take it back to the deck of the condo. The building has only 4 condo units in it; 2 upstairs and 2 down. No elevators to deal with and easy to access. My mother is 70 years old and had no trouble getting up or down the few stairs. The owners, Beth and Don are very friendly, caring and helpful. Equally as pleasant, were the neighbours one floor above. Go ahead and book this place, you will be glad you did. We did not want to leave. Jackie O'Hearn, Brampton, Ontario, Canada

Best place we've found in Banner Elk!!!!

Date of Stay: 05/15/10 Review Submitted: 08/11/10

Beth and Don are simply wonderful! Their villa is the most cozy and comfortable place that we've found in this area!!! :) We stayed on Beech Mountain first. It feels kind of run down, the drive up and down the mountain is brutal, and it's a longer drive to everything. It was not nearly as nice and had absolutely no view. On our next visit, we stayed at SugarTop. It had a nice view, but I didn't care for the elevator, it was very dated, and the hallways to the condos just smelled horrible. We found on that trip that we preferred Sugar to Beech without a doubt! It should be noted that the cost was the same for each of these places. Our last visit was to Beth and Don's wonderful villa! The view is breathtaking and all those windows certainly make it the focal point! My husband and I both prefer this view to SugarTop because you're nestled in the trees AND have that spectacular view! Instead of just looking out above it, you're actually a part of it. Everything is so close... just a few minutes to the store and our favorite restaurant, Bella's Italian. There is also an awesome place in Foscoe, Family Billiards, that has the best diner style hamburger we've ever eaten. This place is like a breath of fresh air and owners' hospitality just make it that much better. We will be visiting Beth and Don's villa for years to come and we are so thankful that they have given us the gift of sharing it with them. Oh, and be prepared! The pictures don't do it justice! Also, they take very good care of their villa. Most of the places we stay, it's like when things tear up they just leave them. At SugarTop, the toaster almost caught on fire and set the smoke alarms off. We didn't think anything about it until the desk called and we found that it had been doing that for a long time and no one seemed to care to replace it. Another place had dog pee stains ALL over the carpet. At Gatlinburg, the a/c was not working and it was over 85 degrees in the cabin while we were trying to have a family cookout. Not a big deal... things happen, but when we read the guest book people had been complaining and telling them about it for 3 or 4 years, we were not happy. I understand that it's not always possible to fix everything right when it happens, but they should at least warn renters about big things like that. So, if you're debating where to stay... this is it! :) Heather Heather UpChurch Art & Design Studios www.flickr.com/artanddesignstudios

New Year's Week '09 - The spectacular photo of the view was actually the selling point for us, but the Condo was actually better than the photo. You can check out other photos on the website listed right under the photo. Sugar Moutain is near Boone and Blowing Rock. The drive from Charlotte (we flew in from Miami) was about 2 hours and takes you right thru Boone & Blowing Rock (Appalachain Ski Resort). We felt right at home and the Barton's (owners) succeeded in making us feel like this was OUR home. You will undoubtedly feel the same. We loved the scenery and view from the deck (spectacular) and the condo had plenty of space for everyone. With Grandma and the kids with us, having a full kitchen was a huge plus and a must. Not only did we save money, but we also saved time. Both Food Lion and Lowe's Food Mart were nearby so gathering up food and supplies was easy. The Condo had everything we needed from space to appointments. We set the T-stat at 72 and it was nice and toasty inside, even though it was 20 degrees outside. The condo truly did have everything we needed and more. There are tons of things to do (tubing, skiing and sleding), but with the kids our favorite was sleding. We went to Beech Moutain ( best sledding and just a few minutes out of town). We drove to Asheville for the day and drove thru beautiful X-mas Tree Farms. We spent the day at Biltmore Estate (Vanderbilt House) and visited their winery and farm. It was great. We highly recommend Sugar Mountain and especially this home-away-from home. We will be back again in the summer (hiking, swimming, golf) and will plan another Winter visit as well. Looking forward to coming back so take good care of the place for us. Happy New Year Debbie & Julio PS: Great people all around to answer any and all questions you might have. Especially the neighbors (Jack).

This is the perfect place to bring the kids for a weekend at Sugar Mountain. We were lucky enough to get ten inches of snow, meet a few neighbors, and enjoy a real mountain retreat. Just as comfortable as home.

The villa is very inviting and comfortable, and the view is even more awesome. We liked how it is decorated in a mountain and out doors theme. It really gives you the feeling of being in the mountains . We found many things to do in the area and would recommend staying here to anyone looking for a mountain trip getaway.

We stayed this past October at this property for 7 days during fall foliage. What an unbelievable view. We drove all over the Blue Ridge Parkway and the views were just beautiful but when we got back to this property we felt the views there were just as beautiful, and we would not even have to leave!!So comfortable and great furnishings and comfortable beds. So much glass to see views and high ceilings for feeling of space. Well kept up and soooo clean. Very quite and the fireplace added so much ambiance. Would absolutely return again. Loved it!!
