The Pantheon is a building in Rome that was begun in 27 BC by the statesman Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa, probably as a building of the ordinary classical temple type--rectangular with a gabled roof supported by a colonnade on all sides. It was completely rebuilt by the emperor Hadrian sometime between AD 118 and 128, with some alterations made in the early 3rd century by the emperors Lucius Septimius Severus and Caracalla. It is a circular building of concrete faced with brick, with a great concrete dome rising from the walls and with a front porch of Corinthian columns supporting a gabled roof with triangular pediment. Beneath the porch are huge bronze double doors, 24 feet (7 m) high, the earliest-known large examples of this type.

The Pantheon is remarkable for its size, its construction, and its design. The dome was the largest built until modern times, measuring about 142 feet (43 m) in diameter and rising to a height of 71 feet (22 m) above its base. There is no external evidence of brick arch support inside the dome, except in the lowest part, and the exact method of construction has never been determined.

You can also rent others loft if available in the same floor.

Please note that every loft is independent from the other.

Great location, but not fantastic.

Our stay here was ok but not great. The location of the place is fantastic and very central, the ceilings were very high, and the air conditioning worked great. Everything was within walking distance including supermarkets. We were 2 adults and a baby, and it really wasn't suitable for us. It is one big room so it was hard to put the baby to bed seeing as we were in the same room. It says it is on the second floor, but by american standards it's really the 3rd floor, so there were a lot of stairs!!! The staircases were very steep and high, not your average flight. The hallway leading into the apartment cannot be used as it leads to the offices, so it really shouldn't be included in the pictures. Don't assume you can put any of your belongings in there. Also it was not unusual for them to come at all hours of the evening/night (not sure what their office hours were). One night they came to work at 10:30pm and we heard plenty of phones ringing all night. We had 2 adult sized towels, 1 tiny one for our child, and one other that we used for a bath mat, but that was all. We requested more towels, ie one for our hands/face, or one for use in the kitchen and they said it would cost €30. No face cloths or hand towels. The only bedding we had was a sheet, maybe that's normal, but a blanket of some sort would have been nice. The picture shows a nice comforter, so I guess that was expected. The bed sagged in the middle making it rather uncomfortable. The kitchen had bare minimums, not even a toaster! The floor was filthy in the common area, (maybe we only noticed this because our son would play on the floor, but he would be black after only a few minutes), everything else was very clean when we arrived. That being said we made it work for us and for a couple who don't really want to spend much time there, it would be fantastic. The location was absolutely perfect and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Decent, cute apartment best suited for 2 people

The Pantheon Charme apartment is overall a very decent and reasonably-priced choice for a short-term stay. We stayed with two adults and one child which was fine, but the apartment is really best suited for two persons. The renovation performed in 2008 was done expertly and professionally, especially exposure and preservation of the historic beam ceiling. The air conditioning worked very well. The apartment is exceptionally quiet as it gives out onto the back of the building onto a courtyard with a view of, well, a courtyard with A/C chillers and nothing else. Please note that the apartment is located on the second floor of the building and is reached by two steep, long staircases. That may not be suitable for everyone, but at the time we visited a chairlift was being installed on the second staircase. You also should know that the apartment actually consists of only one room (rented out through VRBO) so it's really a studio apartment including a small, functional and well-working bathroom/toilet/shower. The kitchen is cleverly integrated into a closet in room whereby two doors swing out to reveal fridge, storage, sink and stovetop. Please note that an office used during the daytime (I think by owner) is part of the apartment. You open the main apartment door from the landing onto a hallway; on the left is the small office, at the end of the hallway is the actual rental apartment. It's important, therefore, to not lock the main apartment door with a door-block/jamb which would prevent the office users from accessing the apartment. The apartment is equipped with cutlery and dishes for three persons. The third person sleeps on a foldaway bed which was surprisingly comfortable. Renters will be met at the apartment by the apartment manager, an exceptionally helpful person who can also arrange airport transfer at reasonable prices. Overall a charming, fairly well equipped apartment smack in the middle of the city in walking distance of major sites and sights. Two supermarkets are in five minute walking distance. My only minor complaint would be that the main bed's mattress really ought to be replaced: it is worn out and sags. The large closet also has only one functioning drawer so there really is not much space to put clothing for a second, let alone a third person; it was therefore a bit inconvenient to have to live out of the suitcase. Please note that there are no dishtowels for the kitchen.

Owner response:Hello, thank you for your positive feedback. I always take note of the guest's suggestions to improve my apartment. Best regards

Pleasantly surprised in Central Rome.

Date of Stay: 05/18/11 Review Submitted: 08/03/11

My stay here was almost too good to be true. I had rented other apartments in central Rome and was a bit dissapointed. This apartment was clean, modern, perfectly located and easy to find. Alexandra was very helpful with check-in. At first, the A/C did not work, which was a problem for me, but the owners were able to get it running quickly and from that point on everything received an A+. The internet worked great and there was even a large flat screened TV with a DVD player. The only drawback are the stairs you have to climb, but those even get easier after a day or so. I would definitely recommend these properties and already have. I am actually returning in October and will be staying in one of the other apartments at that time. I am a single woman traveler and I always felt very safe in the area. There are numerous places for food and fun that are easily reached in a few minutes walk. I guide small groups to Italy, (Italy With Friends Tours) and use a hotel right around the corner for their accommodations. Everyone enjoyed coming to the apartment for a visit. It gave them a chance to see a real Roman dwelling. Staying in an apartment can be very economical, especially for one person. Having a kitchen is really helpful. There is a market just around the corner for all of your needs. Do not pass up the chance to visit Rome and if you can, do not pass up the chance to stay in this apartment or one of the other properties. You will be very pleased and have the extra experience of "living local".

Perfect Locaiton!

Excellent rental apartment! Exactly as advertised. Good water pressure in the shower, clean room, safe location. Perfectly positioned so that all main Roma attractions are within walking distance. You can litterally see the Pantheon from your front door. As we walked everywhere it was key to have such a central base. But if walking is not in your plans, the taxi line right outside the Pantheon is also right around the corner. Excellent restaurants in the area and a grocery store right around the corner. We loved it! The only slight inconvenience we had is that my 6"7' husband did not fit perfectly in the double size bed, but he is an extreme.

A Week by the Pantheon

Guest: Maymay (Eugene)
Date of Stay: 02/12/11 Review Submitted: 03/16/11

The Pantheon Charme is a wonderful home base for a week in Rome. The location is perfect for walking to most sites, and just across from a taxi stand for further adventures. The apartment is up two health improving flights of stairs, and in the back of the building, so noise was no problem. The compact kitchen is well equipped for breakfast or light meals. Next-door at street level is a restaurant with flexible hours and reasonable prices, mentioned in Rick Steves, and popular with students. Alexandra, our host, was welcoming, and helpful whenever asked. The only suggestion I would have is an extra pillow or two and a few more hand and bath towels. We expected to provide paper, sponge, and soap supplies for our week long stay. The location alone makes this apartment a great place to stay. Alexandra's cheerful welcome, and the well equipped one room apartment are icing on the cake.
