This authentic 1934 hacienda was originally the "bunk house" to the famed Darryl Zanuck estate, which remains untouched across the street. Nearly every movie star of the silver screen era has passed through the gates of this historic property to claim a horse to play on the polo field that is now the quiet street of Olivos. The estate was later acquired by the Ripley family as their weekend retreat and then by Mae Questel, the voice of Betty Boop and Olive Oil, who hosted legendary parties.
Fondly known as Betty Boop, this estate has recently undergone a gut remodel by a top designer and has been finished with the finest materials, furnishings, art and accessories to maintain its original charm and history of Hollywood's golden years. As soon as you approach the magical courtyard entry, you will be transformed into another world. The lush, tropical landscaping, including the 50 foot salt water lap pool lined with Date Palm trees is reminiscent of a Caribbean getaway in the California desert. The hacienda sits stately in the middle of park-like grounds with a seamless indoor/outdoor flow set against the magnificent San Jacinto Mountains. There are mature grapefruit, lemon and lime trees for guests to enjoy. With over 3700 square feet of living space, covered verandas, gated patios and a fabulous outdoor dining room with a fireplace, the hacienda offers multiple entertaining options for large cocktail parties, intimate dinners or a simple family BBQ. The European kitchen was built for cooking with its duel French range and multiple dishwashers. For the guests who do not wish to cook, there's a professional caterer's kitchen & butler's pantry.
Each of the three bedroom suites have en suite spa bathrooms finished in Walker Zanger tile and stone and nickel fixtures. A rain-shower and roman tub complete the duel master suites. There is a separate attached casita that can be used as a fourth bedroom or a home office. A private media room with state-of-the-art surround sound is perfect for movie watching. Each bedroom is furnished with hotel linens, flat-screen LCD televisions and stereo speakers with volume controls. There is wifi throughout the property. The estate is walled and gated for total privacy, security and is monitored by 24-hour surveillance cameras to watch children, nannies, guests and pets.
