Pos Chiquito house description

Villa Wattstraat sits at the base of Spaans Lagoon Beach Road, a mix of residences and rental villas along the southern coast of Aruba, east of Reina Beatrix Airport, off the beaten path and away from, but accessible to tourist amenities.

The house was first renovated in 2005 with the addition of a pool, privacy walls and second floor observatory now used as an office and sleeping loft. With our purchase of the property in 2008, the house has undergone additional renovation, been completely redecorated and includes up to date electronics.

With the freshest fish available and meal preparation at your option, choose to unwind at home by the pool, walk down to the beach, snorkel in Spaans Lagoon or head into town for shopping and tourist amenities. At night, decide between dinner at home under the stars, beachfront dining a short walk down the road or head into Orangestaad for the nightlife with the option of the restaurants/casinos around Eagle and Palm Beaches.

Our maid Jean lives on the premises in separate quarters. She is sensitive to our guests desire for privacy and remains inconspicuous.

We enjoyed our vacation to Aruba and this house. If you like to be away from the throng of visitors this is a great location. The house has everything you need (pack spices and salt and pepper) and a nice outdoor area with the pool and a grill that looked new. The only issues that I can think of is the bath between the two bedrooms is very small. Though the master bath is quite large. You also do not have 24 hour access to the laundry. There is a person that lives on site that takes care of the cleaning of the house and will do your laundry for a fee. You can get fresh fish from the boats right next to the house and there are some great restaurants on that end of the island. B-55, Marina Pirata (you can walk to), Flying Fishbone and Zeerover. Rent a jeep and see the sights, come back to the house and sit on the upper porch and watch the sunset with a cocktail.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Some people want their vacation and their vacation rental home to be familiar, sort of like their home, but with palm trees. They want to be near other vacationers who are also striving for the same thing, crowded beaches, bad calypso music, endless buffets, sugary over-priced drinks, with a touch of theme park for the kids. Other people want to escape from all that. They want seclusion, a shimmering pool with NO ONE ELSE AROUND beyond the walls. They want access to Town without being in Town. They want to walk a few hundred yards to a charming, local restaurant and bar and eat what the locals eat. They don’t want to see a soul if possible, just the caretaker bringing them fish caught right off the front yard. They may even enjoy the old factory, shades of Aruba’s past rum manufacturing, standing silently across the street as they barbecue that fish from earlier. All while drinking some rum or a local brewed Balashi beer, as the pool reflects the Caribbean moon off its surface, and the trade winds blow through. If you are the latter, go here now.

This is our 4th trip to Aruba and the 1st trip we stayed at the high rise hotels on the north side of the island and was not very happy with our stay. The hotels and food were very expensive and I did some research and found the villa at Spaans Lagoon and this is why I have been back 3 more times and planning another visit. This villa is PARADISE and is a perfect location to get away from the hustle and bustle of tourism but close enough to drive to the city (15-20 minutes). All the photos are very accurate of the property and it is very well maintained and the property manager Christian is very helpful and friendly. There is a small grocery store near by for necessities and a very good bakery across the street. The best grocery store is in town Ling and Sons and this is where we shop and if you like fresh fish just a few steps to the docks where the local fisherman go out daily and the red snapper boats come in around 9:00-10:00 AM and the grouper boats arrive around 4:30-6:00 PM and if you need any help the locals are playing dominoes every afternoon and ask for Charlie or Alex and they speak good English and are very helpful. Also they will fillet your fish for dinner that you can grill or blacken on the side burner on the new grill. The afternoon and sunsets are very beautiful from the top deck during happy hour and the views are outstanding of the ocean. We have been all over the Caribbean and this is our favorite vacation retreat and I highly recommend this property for a fantastic stay in Aruba.

We can' say enough good things about this home. We have had the pleasure of staying in this wonderful home three times, and cannot wait to return. We feel like we are at home, once the unpacking is done. This home is very well equipped to make the stay very comfortable. Relaxing in the pool, and eating the fresh fish from across the street are our favorite things to do. But you can't beat the sunsets from the upper desk, while enjoying a afternoon cocktail. Meeting Christian the host has been a true pleasure, he is the man with all the answers. This home is a true gem that we are lucky to have found.

We enjoyed the island of Aruba but the location of this house is in a more industrial area. We were surprised to find the home surrounded by abandoned buildings. Across the street is an old abandoned Distllery. The lot next to the house is vacant and there is an old cargo container in front of the house by the fishing dock. Pappy's restaurant is closed and is used for parking a school bus. Google Earth is your friend... review the surroundings first. If the price were cheaper to compensate for the location it would be a nice place to stay. Only 8 min. from the airport (good news and bad news) and within walking distance of Marina Pirata... an amazing restaurant that is worth a visit where ever you stay on the island.

This is the absolute perfect place to stay when you want to get away from the hustle of life and relax. Each morning, after sleeping longer than I ever do at home, I awoke to the Aruban sunshine peeking through the window shade and the surrounding trees swaying in the gentle trade winds. The flora on the property is lush and colorful and attracted a few humming birds which I so enjoyed watching. Although the towns of San Nicolas and Oranjestad are a quick drive away, we spent a lot of our time at the house just lounging by the pool in the sun or under the palm leaf covered tables. The inside of the house was spotless, modern, and comfortable. Every evening we watched the sunset over the lagoon leading to the Caribbean Sea on the upstairs deck. One night we grilled some freshly caught fish that Jean purchased for us from the local fisherman at the small marina across the road. (Thanks Jean!) There is also a restaurant just up the road that prepares local fish and Aruban specialties. My husband and I always prefer staying in accommodations outside of the crowded tourist areas of any vacation destination. If you're like us, this is the ideal place to stay in Aruba.

My husband and I had a great stay here in the spring of 2011. The house is close to the tourist areas, but far enough away to feel exotic. Everything inside is clean and updated. The kitchen looks brand new and has granite countertops and new stainless steel appliances! The living room has a very comfortable sofa and a large flat screen television. The house is beautifully decorated and updated throughout. We loved having a pool all to ourselves and sipped wine and watched the sun set from the rooftop deck. The owners take excellent care of the property and it shows. We enjoyed meeting Jean who lives in an apartment on the premises; she even prepared some delicious meals for us! The house is walking distance from the beach and from a romantic waterfront restaurant where we had one of our favorite meals. There is also a bakery close by that makes some of the best rolls I have ever tasted. Staying here is a great way to experience the local flavor of Aruba. I highly recommend this house and would definitely return.

We chose this house on this island from more than a dozen other houses/islands we considered. We arrived yesterday afternoon. I'm up a little after sunrise on the first morning looking out over the lagoon and revisiting the description here on the website. I'm impressed with how much the experience of being here matches the description. Will write more later.

I love this house, we had never been to Aruba, so we were not really sure what to expect! The Care takers came to get us at the airport and waited while we picked up our rental car then drove us right to the house, showed us everything we would need to know, they also introduced us to Jean (the live in help) She was great and helped us figure out some things to do during our stay! Having our own private swimming pool was a huge bonus! The upstairs patio was great to watch the sunrise and set! The downstairs was great for star gazing, not to mention the private concert we got from papi’s hideaway! We went a lot of cool places while in Aruba but the house was by far our favorite. I know my boyfriend felt the same way because he proposed there, He said he was going to propose on the beach but after a few days he realized that was our spot and I loved that it’s a place we can go back to and it is our own! We loved our stay at this house, I know we would not have had as much fun if we stayed in a hotel. All the photos on the website are the house I was so excited when we got there and everything was just how I imaged it! I highly recommend this house!

                      Year Purchased: 2008

About the owner: We're an American Family with two elementary school-age daughters who live most of the year in the midwest. I'm a businessman and travel extensively. My wife is an attorney, currently on hiatus, raising the girls. We love to travel and be by the sea.

Why the Owner Chose Pos Chiquito:
We've visited Aruba for so often it's become our second home. After years of looking at island residences close to the tourist areas we fell in love with Spaans Logoon and the easy lifestyle there. It's a close-knit neighborhood with walkable groceries and restaurants. Mango Halto Beach is just down the beach road with ocean access for swimming and snorkeling all along the shore. We cherish every sunset and are down every chance we get.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Because we're on the ocean (Spaans Lagoon) we have all the water sports at our convenience, the pool gives us a place for the kids to play. The fishing dock across from the house provides the freshest fish and endless amusement for the kids. The house has Internet and home theatre so we feel at home technologically. Of course the perfect weather and gorgeous sunsets from our balcony are priceless.
