Gorgeous 1920's Restored Bungalow -- Downtown- Nov-Feb Special
Year Purchased: 2003
Why the Owner Chose Albuquerque
This house was built in the 1920's and when we found it in very poor condition. Depsite this, we could see the original beauty and charm, and have renovated it with the orignal hardwood floors, beautiful wood finishing around the windows and door frames and the built-in cabinets in the living and dining rooms. Almost everything else is new - plumbing, electrical, stucco, roof, heating/cooling, appliances and 2nd floor master suite. The location also appealed because it's close to downtown, Old Town, and so many things to do.
The Unique Benefits at this House
We live only a mile or so away and love the neighborhood near downtown and Old Town. Lots of good restaurants, near one of the largest stadium seating theatres in town, close to the zoo, museums, university, and all the sports complexes. It's also close to the airport. We love old houses and old neighborhoods and like restoring them to keep the old charm but add the modern features and conveniences.
Oldest cultural center; shops, restaurants, Native American jewelry, pottery and rugs
A very long trail going all the way north to Alameda that accommodates hiking, biking, and roller blading; well used; take water; Rio Grande Nature Center at Candelaria has restrooms and water during
Albuquerque Museum of Natural History (with Palnetarium) EXPLORA children's hands-on science museum National Atomic Museum Albuquerque Museum of Art
Great cafe for breakfast, lunch or dinner; good coffee, pastries and desserts; great soups, salads, sandwiches, main courses; beer and wine; wi-fi
Local coffee shop; good burritos; open for breakfast and lunch; about a 3 block walk from the house
Locally owned New Mexican restaurant; good food; very reasonable prices; enchiladas, burritos, tacos, etc

Laura and Richard have been managing residential and commercial property for 15 years but only recently finished renovation of this home for vacation rental. In the summer of 2009 they are opening a bed and breakfast in their three story Victorian home in downtown Albuquerque called the “Bella Roma”. Laura and Richard share the Bella Roma with her mother, Elaine, a James Joyce scholar who sponsors reading groups on Wednesday evenings and their dog Arlo, who loves visitors. In addition, Laura and Richard own and manage Smart Use, LLC, a water conservation consulting company. They try to make every property as green as possible with Energy Star appliances, efficient heating and cooling, recycling and use of green household products.

We enjoyed our stay in the bungalow. It is even more charming than the pictures online show. Very nicely redone. Laura and Richard were quite helpful with directions to places and describing sites we were interested in seeing. I would recommend the house to anyone wanting to stay in Albuquerque and get a taste of the local flavor. The house is so cute & comfortable. We loved our stay.
Owner response:Thanks for the review. You were great guests.

I rented this house for girlfriends weekend. It is very well maintained and owners were very easy to work with. It had all the comforts and worked well for 5 people. The neighborhood is nothing special (but safe--no problem) but easy walk to zoo and downtown. We loved the Flying Star Cafe nearby. It's a great value and much more comfortable than hotels.
Owner response:Thanks so much for your kind remarks. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay.

You don't often get a chance to get inside one of the old Albuquerque homes much less spend a week so this was areal treat. The owners have done a marvelous job of renovation with great attention to detail combining period furniture with completely up to date facilities including great wifi. Using this house as our base we walked to restaurants, shopping and area attractions while our car sat in the driveway conserving gas. Highly recomended.

The property was just as advertised - maybe cozier - and the owners were very helpful. The location could not be better - it is close to everything with plenty of walkable restaurants. Don't miss the Saturday morning farmer's market 3 blocks away. One of the best we've ever visited - and we are from the Shenandoah Valley.
Owner response:Thanks so much for the review. We enjoy our guests and we're glad to be a part of a great vacation.

Stayed for 1 week with my daughter, son-in-law and 3 year-old grandson. It was absolutely marvelous! Richard and Laura were incredible, even providing age-appropriate movies for my grandson. Everything about our stay was 100% perfect! We were totally enamored with the lovely home and outdoor space! Would recommend this lovely home to anyone wanting a comfortable, lovely home near Old Town, downtown, the zoo and so much more in Albuquerque.

A nice little house, conveniently located within walking distance to Downtown and a very short drive to Old Town and both major highways, it was perfect for our family of five. It was a great base for day trips. The kitchen was spacious and well equipped, including cleaning products and paper goods, so we didn't have to go shopping for much more than food. The grocery store was a couple miles away, but traffic was light. The air was really dry, so we ran the humidifier from the upstairs bathroom, which helped. The owner was very helpful, including recommending activities for our family. We walked to the Flying Star Cafe for dinner, enjoyed shopping for Indian jewelry at Skip Maisels (the best prices around), and took the train (kind of slow, but pretty) to Santa Fe. Would recommend a visit to Acoma Pueblo, Bandalier National Park, Petroglyph National Park and the volcanos, and the drive through the Jemez Mountains.
Owner response:Thanks for the nice review.

Our stay at this cozy house was a dream. The location was perfect for everything we wanted to see and do. This house was well appointed and thoughtfully planned out. We had everything we could of needed, even extra paper towels and kleenex. Our Thanksgiving was overflowing with blessings. Thank You

The owners did a fabulous job of renovating this adorable bungalow. With almost no notice the owners were gracious in accommodating our stay. They’ve filled the home with everything one could need or want in a vacation rental. One would expect to pay more for such wonderful accommodations.

Our family just got back from a vacation in the Southwest, which included several days in Albuquerque. This place was a wonderful old home that has really been updated and taken care of well. Our experience with the owners was exceptional - incredibly nice people who really worked to make our stay a rich experience.
