Excellent choice for one week-end or for a week. A huge choice of good bar and restaurants along the streets near of the appartment (the list given by the owner is great). Thanks to the Subway at 5mn, Brooklyn, Harlem and Bronx are near (maybe 50 mn to go to the Bronx zoo, 10/15mn for Brooklyn and 30mn for Harlem). The flat is clean and comfortable, the owner serious, comprehensive and ready to help. I hope that my english is okay… Anyway this apartment is perfect for those who prefer the comfort rather than luxury Pierre C.
Owner response:Pierre, you were delightful guests! So glad you enjoyed the recommendations. :) Come back anytime.

Christmas in New York

We had 2 weeks in NYC over Christmas and New Years so an apartment was a much better option for 4 people than a hotel. Vanessa was fantastic and answered a million questions from me before we had even arrived so I was confident we wouldnt have any problems, which we didn't. The location is perfect in the buzzing East Village. Close to the subway and an abundance of fantastic food options within 2 minutes walk. A massive Whole Foods is right down the road, as is the shopping in Soho. The apartment itself was really cute, we loved the fairy lights! It was clean, plenty of towels, everything we needed. The couch was super comfortable and there are some great guide books on the shelves we could use during our stay. There is also a list of reccommended restaurants Vanessa has provided if you need any suggestions. There are some loud noises coming from the pipes at times but we got used to it and it certainly wasnt anything that would prevent us from staying here again. The main bedroom gets some street noise at night but we were in the "city that never sleeps" so we found it more interesting than annoying. We would reccommend the apartment for a family or a group of friends travelling together. We had a fabulous time and would stay again during our next visit.
Owner response:So happy you enjoyed your stay and got to experience the city over the holidays!

The apartment is very well located and on the first floor which is not bad for carriying the luggage!! The bathroom is quite small specially the sink!!, but is ok just for a few days...the kitchen is good and Vanessa always leaves you some tea or coffee, and there is a deli just crossing the street!! The only "bad" thing of the apartment is that one of the rooms is quite noisy especially at night, anyway, the bed is good and after one day traveling around manhattan is not bad at all. Also, in winter the heat is suffocating!!! Finally, Vanessa is a very nice manager and always try to help you!!

Our party consisted of 3 adults. We loved the location of this apartment. It is in a very central location in the East Village, only 2 min walk to public transportation (F train and bus). Midtown attractions (Times Square, theatre district, Carnegie Hall, Rockefeller Center, Central Park) are less than 20 min. away by subway. The financial district (Ground Zero, ferries to Ellis Island/Statue of Liberty) is even closer. Cab fare from Penn Station (at rush hour!) was $13.00, tip included. This makes the Air Train from Newark or Air Train/Long Island Railroad from JFK to Manhattan, very convenient and considerably faster/more economical alternatives when compared with cabbing it. (NB: The 'flat rate' cab fare does not include tips or tolls.) The neighborhood is full of interesting places to explore and we thoroughly enjoyed the 15 minute walk to Union Square where we admired the work of artisans at the delightful Christmas Market. The service from Vanessa, our host, was exceptional. In addition to making herself available at all times, she emailed an information package at the time of booking. This is also available in the apartment and was invaluable in helping us make the most of our brief stay. Unfortunately we did not have the time to take advantage of the many neighborhood restaurants and amenities but directions to grocery stores and major Manhattan attractions were very helpful. The apartment is small (welcome to Manhattan!), but has ample space for 2 couples, was clean and the beds are very comfortable. It is extremely well-equipped. All we needed to purchase were perishables and groceries. It is only one floor up from ground (no elevator) and the entrance is secure. A couple of suggestions: 1. Because of the central location, 'street' noise, particularly on the weekend, may interfere with sleep. Inexpensive foam earplugs are a simple, effective solution. 2 The TKTS booth in Times Square is a great way to get discount tickets to same-day Broadway performances. It opens at 3 pm. However there is also one at the Jay St. Metro-Tech Centre in downtown Brooklyn. It opens at 11 am and will have a better selection. The F train takes you directly there, and the ride is shorter! Downtown and many of Brooklyn's neighborhoods are fun to explore. The view of Manhattan from the Brooklyn Bridge is spectacular. This property is a great alternative to the high-priced hotel accommodation in NYC. Enjoy your time in the 'Big Apple'!

This charming apartment is situated in an excellent position in the middle of the East Village, has a secured entrance and is only one floor up from the street (No elevator). It is a short walk to the subway Line No 6 (Astor Place) and the bus (No M15), which travel between the Financial District and East Harlem is only a 2 minute walk away. The apartment is not the largest (but you are in New York, and real estate is at a premium) but it was clean and tidy. The bedroom were quite roomy and the beds were comfortable. The lounge and kitchen were adequate and well equipped. Vanessa was very accommodating in meeting us as we were later arriving that we expected. There are lots of excellent restaurant close by. Vanessa left a list of recommendations and we tried a couple,The Mermaid Inn (Seafood) and Franks (Italian) which were both excellent. There is also a fantastic bakery at the end of 4th Street (Panisi Bakery) where wer purchased the best Red Velvet Cupcakes I have every tasted. There is also a laundromat close by in 4th Street. Would highly recommend this place to any travelling to New York and wanting somewhere comfortable and convenient.
Owner response:Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed Mermaid and Frank -- two of my fave places!

We have a very pleasant journey in this appartment, the place is good located and the owner Vanessa is very nice. A lot of restaurants and bar, busy night, just a little bit noisy from the big bedroom. It's a convenient place by walking. If we come back, it will this place again! Thank you Vanessa! :)

Myself and two friends stayed at Vanessa's East Village apartment for 10 nights in May 2011 and had a great time. The apartment was clean and just as described in the listing. Vanessa was extremely helpful and the location was perfect. Close to bars, restaurants and the subway. Not a lot more you could ask for when staying in the city that never sleeps. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to visit NY.
Owner response:Thanks, Anna. Would love to have you ladies back anytime. :)
