We spent a week at this property last Summer. The kids enjoyed the biking trails, beach, and skate park just across the street. Shallow water beach was safe for young children. The home was clean and larger than it looked in the photos. We were able to cook inside or grill outside for every meal. The owners were very helpful and always responsive via phone and email. Easy walk or bike ride to restaurants. TIP: Head up town and rent bikes upon arrival.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with young children.

We had a great visit to our favorite vacation place - Gladstone. Twin Oaks comfortably slept our whole family (14 in all). The front porch overlooking the bay had a wonderful breeze off the water - perfect for reading & visiting. The beach, playground and trail are so close the kids went back & forth as they wanted. We also visited Fayette State Park on Garden Peninsula, enjoyed $1 movies in Escanaba on Wednesday, & go-carts & mini-golf at the Family Fun Park in Escanaba. Pictured Rocks in Munising is only an hours drive to the north. Notes: we had no trouble with the delightful old sink, but the stovetop only offers "high" setting - making pancakes & rice (or anything on the stovetop) is especially difficult. We were able to work around it, but it was frustrating. Also, it's very easy for the upstairs north bedroom to get over-hot - especially when using the oven or when either upstairs bedroom door is closed. Neither issue will prevent us from returning again. We love Gladstone & we enjoyed Twin Oaks!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: We encourage guests to call if there is ever a problem at the house. We will take care of it immediately. We want you to have the best experience possible. Even though air conditioning is not needed 95% of the time, we will be adding it in the upstairs. Also we will check the stove. Burned pancakes is unacceptable!

We very much enjoyed our stay at Twin Oaks. My two sisters and I travelled with our 86 year old mother to visit friends in the area. The house was very clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The location was perfect - we loved walking just across the street to Van Cleve Park! If we return to the area, we would love to stay at Twin Oaks again!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

We stayed at Twin Oaks during the shoulder season of th UP. Too cold for spring/summer activities, too warm for winter activities. However, Twin Oaks made this tolerable for our family of four that includes a two year old and an infant by being large enough that we weren't stepping on each other's toes. The sun porch is perfect for a cup of coffee and a good book. The toys were a blessing, and the TV room very cozy. The washer/dryer combo and bathroom facilities are updated and clean. The kitchen is acceptable, but I found the sink, while quaint, a bit of a challenge to do dishes in. The beds are comfy and the entire place is very clean.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: The dish basin and rack are under the sink.

I brought my elderly parents up to visit family in mid-October 2010 and stayed at Twin Oaks. The house was as described by the owners ~ very clean & well maintained. GREAT location! Great communication before, during and after our stay. My parents (79 & 88 yrs old) really enjoyed themselves and loved the house as well. Convenient to have bedrooms and bathrooms on main floor, and I had the entire upstairs to myself!! I plan on returning again and highly recommend this property to anyone visiting the Gladstone/Escanaba area.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

It is a beautiful house in a fantastic location. I brought my young nephew and niece to accompany my son and they had a blast. It was incredibly relaxing as we spent every day playing at the beach. I intend to come back every year.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children.

We are here to celebrate the marriage of our daughter. We had beautiful sunny days and cool nights. We prepared for the wedding and enjoyed entertaining friends at our "home" away from home. I am sure the neighbors wondered what was going on!! Steve and Barb, Thank you.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We were here to visit family and play. The weather was warm. Went Salmon fishing in Fairport and had a fish fry at the Swollow Inn in Rapid River. Had a fantastic time! 1414 Lake Shore Drive was the perfect home away from home for our family!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
