Hi, The Old Mill House, is a well equipped stylish neat house in McCoud. Molly was kind and helpful in the process of paying the rent. The lack of heating in the bedrooms is the only thing that made our stay somewhat uncomfortable. The nights were cold and we slept fully dressed and hats on most of the time. We would only rent it in the summer, or if the heating system changed. Sincerely:Erika MillsOwner response: Thanks for the review. The kerosene monitor located in the living room will keep the bedrooms heated if the doors to the bedrooms are left open, also the wood stove works well to heat the house. I provide free firewood. I also have electric blankets on the beds.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this adorable historic mill house. It was conveniently located within walking distance to downtown shops, restaurants, and a grocery store. The rooms were bright, spacious and clean. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed and we loved the cozy breakfast nook with views of the side yard and back deck. We slept in the front room in a comfortable queen sized bed that had a dual control electric blanket for warmth. The entire property was fenced which was wonderful for our dog (plenty of room to play fetch). There was a nice selection of DVD's, books and games, plus a guest binder chock full of information on local attractions and activities. Dog friendly lodging in an outdoor lover's paradise…I couldn't ask for more. If you go, don't miss the 6 mile McCloud River Loop trail that passes by three beautiful waterfalls, or the free snow play area at Bunny Flat on the Everitt Memorial Highway. We had a delicious breakfast at Lily's Restaurant in Mt Shasta City and enjoyed sampling beers at the Mt Shasta Brewing Company in Weed.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, pet owners, girls getaway, families with young children.

Nice house but cold in winter

The house was charming and as described on the website. It is very suitable to rent with family or friends, as it is fully packed with utensils, good kitchen, games, a lot of cutlery et cetera. A few drawbacks: in winter it gets very cold in the house. There is a gas stove and a wood stove (which takes a bit of time to heat up), but this only heats the living room. Even with the doors to the bedrooms open, it can get very cold in the bedrooms if the temperature drops below freezing, one night I even had to sleep with gloves on. Some separate heaters for the bedrooms would come in handy. The couch in the living room we did not find very comfortable (perhaps needs to be renewed). I couldn't find the futon (but perhaps we didnt' look well enough) although we didn't need it (perhaps I would have put it in the living room to sleep warmly). Also, some of the beds were not too comfortable/supportive. Without losing the historic atmosphere, putting a down comforter on the beds would be great, instead of many blankets that don't really keep you warm. I appreciated the large quantity of wood that was pre-cut. McCloud is a charming little town with friendly people, and an ideal base to visit Shasta. The house is better suitable for summer than winter, though, although it is manageable until temperature drops below the 20's or so. All in all it was a positive experience. I did miss a parking spot though, had to park beside the road but that didnt' seem to be a problem. One last thing, the gas heater has several knobs that are damaged or missing, and the temperature it displayed was often not correct. And.. the 'J' is missing from the scrabble game! ;PRecommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, pet owners, sightseeing, families with young children.

We were so impressed with everything in and at The Old Mill House. It was so comfortable and we loved being there. There was everything there that we needed and then more. The yard was beautiful and well taken care of as well as every room in the house. We have and will recommend this property to friends and relatives. We hope that we left it as we found it and want you know we felt lucky to have been there. We attended the wedding of our grandson at the McCloud Guest House. The wedding was outside and everything turned out perfectly. Thank you.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

We enjoyed out stay at The Old Mill House enormously. The house was perfectly charming and the two adults and two kids in our family felt immediately comfortable. Everything we could have wanted was at our fingertips. The house was immaculately clean, the kitchen full of quality equipment, and everywhere were magical details. We were very comfortable on all the furniture and slept so well in the cozy beds. Our trips to the corner store for groceries and the general store for fishing supplies met with friendly and very helpful staff. The neighbors were also very friendly and happy. We were just minutes away from the falls, endless forests for picnicking, streams and lakes for fishing, and a great swimming hole, where we spent the afternoon. A warm, summery get-away for all of us.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with young children.

We had a very nice stay in the Old Mill House. The location was perfect to walk downtown, and the house comfortable and homey. We were there with three children, and the twin beds in one bedroom, plus the toys in the cabinet, were perfect. The only thing we weren't used to was having only one bathroom, but after we figured out the shower schedule everyone was fine!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with young children.
