On the left side of the beach is a local school of yellow tang fish numbering up to 200 plus. This beach is great for children and is about 10 minutes north to the beginning the the hike to Kalalau Trail.

Hanalei Beach and the town of Hanalei is about 8 minutes south from Hale Ono and Princeville is another couple of miles south of Hanalei. Hale Ono is in a great location where tropical breezes blow away mosquitos that may be found further inland.

New Beachfront Ocean View Balinese Tropical Retreat with Pool

The Unique Benefits at this House

It is quiet, peaceful, serene, rural, tropical with ocean and mountain views. Rainbows and waterfalls are visible. Pool and hot tub are major benefits being privately fenced. The Balinese design is spectacular throughout. The beach in front of Hale Ono is very private with great shelling and some of the best swimming/snorkeling on the island. The locals like to fish for Ulua here and other types of delicious fish. The serenity and peacefulness is unique to this magical spot in paradise. You will experience this when you stay here. The Hale Ono location was selected by an old Hawaiian family who picked this spot as their own family dream vacation home site which was only one of many hundreds of acres that they owned.

Didn't Want To Leave

Guest: Carol (Pacific Northwest - Eastern Washington)
Date of Stay: 12/04/11 Review Submitted: 12/17/11

As I look out my window today and see 10" of snow it seems almost like a dream that just a week ago life was "good" - 82 degrees and sunny. Sitting on the deck sipping a glass of wine and listening to the waves. What a great time we had at this place. We had a week of spectacular weather, saw the whales, turtles and some amazing high surf (20 to 25 foot waves). Went to a luau next door, got up when we wanted and totally relaxed. Took in a local festival and farmers markets and of course had burgers at Bubbas. As other reviewers have stated this house has it all - there was nothing more that we could have wanted. Do be sure to stop at Costco or Safeway if you plan to eat in very much. The town of Hanalei and the bay there are definately a must see. The last night we even got to experience a Hawaiin thunderstorm. Very heavy rain, lightening and thunder so close it shook the house (scared my 6 year old grandson) but the rest of us thought it to be quite awesome. Next morning - 82 degrees and sunny!!! I can't tell you how hard it was to leave this beautiful place. We will be back and I highly recommend this place for any and all who want to experience the real Hawaii.

Missing Our Vacation Getaway!

Guest: 2newadvntrs (Used to be Ca but now Lihue Hi)
Date of Stay: 05/05/10 Review Submitted: 08/13/11

One of the most awesome experiances I have ever had in my life, happened here. My husband and I got married on 5-15-10. I know its been awhile since we have stayed here but I couldnt resist writing a review. We came here and made some wishes that we could have the chance to one day live on this island after having 3 amazing weeks at hale ono. Within 6 mos my husband had a job transfer. We drive by the home often and remember our amazing time. Living here is much different from vacationing, but is still the most amazing place to be. Sounds kind of funny but we have a week of vacation coming up and want to spend it here at Hale Ono. We miss the ocean breezes at night, and waking up to having a coffee on the lanai watching the waterfalls, and most amazing spiritual rainbows right over the house. Snorkelling, fishing on one of the best beaches right outside your doorstep. We miss just sitting in the hot tub at night with a drink and looking at some of the brightest stars you could ever see. Lighting the tikis and watching the wonderful landscaping dance in the shadows. The house is wonderfully decorated in the nicest furnishings and romantic upgrades from an outdoor shower to the indoor showers and jacuzzi bath tub. Great for those long hikes just up the road. We placed flowers around the home from our wedding and it was a true tropical paradise. The wood/flowers throughout the house complemented each other to make it most romantic. It was convienant to be able to cook our own shrimp and steak on the bbq, and Gas stove. The place had everything you need for cooking pleasure. There is nothing I can say bad about this place, except most definatly go to costco upon arriving, stock up on drinks and food. Its is far cheaper than Foodland, although foodland has the best french bread. This will make your time scheduled for relaxing, and enjoying the north shore which is really the best place on the island. Hoping to get back to Hale Ono soon...Just to relax in paradise...

Owner response:Aloha These are kind words describing the auro of Hale Ono. It is one of the most serene, quiet, peaceful, rural-tropical place we have visited in the world. The time goes by in a different way almost if there are no cares to worry about. Days blend into nights back into days where many times we have completely forgotten what day it was. We usually were off at least a day or two sometimes three. This happens mostly after a two week stay when we are on "North Shore Kauai Island Time." Stress levels drop to where they are minimal or almost non existant. Rejuvination of mind and spirit builds. The sense of a new adventure is right around the corner. Material things seem to mean less and less. Nature calls us and we respond by swimming, hiking, strolling, snorkeling, star gazing, barbequing, reading, fishing, boating, kayaking, and meeting new local friends. It is a paradise where one could find the fountain of youth or something very close to it.

High expectations were met and exceeded - Hale Ono was amazing!

Guest: Kirk and Natalie (Smithfield, Utah)
Date of Stay: 04/10/11 Review Submitted: 07/08/11

After much research, we selected this property due to its amenities and location and we were not disappointed. Hale Ono made our stay on Kauai the perfect tropical getaway. The property is ideally situated on a beautiful stretch of beach and the view from the lanai was our favorite place to eat breakfast and relax after a day of beach-combing, snorkeling and playing in the sun. After a perfect day on the beach, we loved to come home, rinse off in the hot outside shower and then dip into the hottub and recount our adventures with a cold drink. The house has five separate living quarters and each is luxuriously appointed with comfortable beds and its own bathroom facilities. The sound of the waves will lull you into a deep sleep and the many native roosters will act as your natural "alarm clock." This make the house an ideal set-up for several couples or a large family group. All kitchen facilities are available and after a quick trip to Costco on the way to Haena from the airport, Hale Ono allows you to be self-sufficient to the degree that works best for your plans. We loved eating breakfast together and then exploring the quaint eating establishments in nearby Hanalie - We loved Bubba's Burgers and Red Hot Mama's. Also, don't miss the best shave ice on Kauai at the Wishing Well Shave Ice van in Hanalei. We are snorkel fanatics and found the very best snorkeling only a 5 minute walk from Hale Ono. A multitude of fish, turtles and other aquarium like creatures were always a short walk away. In every aspect, Hale Ono not only met but exceeded our high expectations and we would reccommend this property without reservation. Kauai is a different from all the other Hawaiin Islands we have visited and it has a natural beauty that cannot be described - only experienced. We found the property owners to be professional and responsive and the transaction to be exactly what we had agreed upon. We have fond memories of Hale Ono and hope to return soon and often! The photos on the VRBO web-site do not do the property justice - it is gorgeous and well mainained. This is the place to stay on the Kauai north shore.

Owner response:Thank you Kirk and Natalie, We agree with your accurate description of Hale Ono and it's wonderful location situated between the three of the top 3 beaches in Hawaii- famous Tunnels Beach (3 minutes); Hanalei Bay beach (8 minutes); Ke'e Beach (end of the road at Napali State Beach 9 minutes; and the best snorkeling on the island at Baby's beach 5 minutes walk to the left of Hale Ono. Toni cries everytime we have to leave to fly back to California from Hale Ono. It is an untouched paradise that is quiet, serene, and picturesque with waterfalls, rainbows, flowers, birds, and tropical scenery that is unequaled. Family and friends have been enjoying Hale Ono for many years and many return year after year. Mahalo.

Simply Amazing!!

Date of Stay: 05/19/10 Review Submitted: 05/21/11

Hale One means "top-of-the-line house", and the owners were absolutely right! This is an incredibly beautiful house in the most magical part of the Hawaiian Islands. This is our favorite place to come, and the house is extremely comfortable and fun. It has a lot of privacy, but all of the amenities are available near by. Ten steps from the door is a locals' beach, and you can walk for miles, enjoying all that north shore Kauai has to offer. Next door is a small resort with a great restaurant, and we were able to get massages on the lanai of Hale Ono, enjoying the Hawaiian breezes and a top notch massage. We also enjoyed buying food at the farmer's market and cooking at home for most meals. This place has everything you need to be comfortable. You might not ever want to leave! But then again, there is so much to see and do here. The NaPali Coast hiking trail is close by, and that is a hike that is not to be missed. And the town of Hanalei is so cute, fun, and interesting. Our highest marks go to Hale Ono!

Owner response:Hale Ono is one of the last true, rural, local island flavor beachfront homes that we have lived in the world. Family and friends have enjoyed the serenity, relaxation, and peacefullness of this magical spot in paradise. The pool, hot tub, and 40 step proximity to the ocean make this property unique in addition to the breathtaking waterfalls and rainbows of the Bali Hai mountains. The Balinese interior design carvings and furniture with high ceilings create an exclusive tropical environment that is comfortable and very artistic. The separation in the home allows larger family groups with children plenty of space, quiteness, and peace of mind. Living so close to the sea, eating the many varities of local fish and tropical fruits/vegetable, etc. make one believe they can be living in another century where life is simple, free, and leisure time is abundant.

Outstanding Vacation Retreat

Guest: J and A (Santa Cruz, California)
Date of Stay: 09/10/10 Review Submitted: 09/16/10

My wife and I were treated to an anniversary getaway and accompanied by good friends at this outstanding vacation retreat in North Shore Kauai. We were completely taken by both the beauty of the home and it's setting on the beach and central to so many spectacular activities. As owners of vacation properties in California and Costa Rica, we especially appreciated the care the owners have taken to insure that their home is welcoming, very well equipped and tastefully decorated in a wonderful Balinese/Island style. The beach, within steps of the house, is one of the best snorkeling spots we've been to with a protected reef full of colorful coral, hundreds of fish, eels, turtles, lobster and warm clear water. There is also a relaxing hot tub and plunge pool adjacent to the lower living area. For dining, there is a very good restaurant next door as well as excellent markets nearby (great organic farmers market tues. and sat. in the local town). The home has a barbeque for outdoor grilling and a well-equipped kitchen. We cooked some fantastic meals, ate on the veranda and enjoyed the view and soothing trade winds. This property is well suited for either families or couples with two distinct living areas and plenty of room. Loved the place, loved the setting, want to go back soon!!

Our perfect vacation

Guest: Jon (Rochester Hills, Michigan)
Date of Stay: 06/10/10 Review Submitted: 07/11/10

The Hale Ono house was perfect for my wife and me. Very comfortable home - tastefully decorated, great kitchen, etc. We heard the gentle crashing of waves on the shore every night. Wonderful view of the ocean from the lanai. One of our favorite memories was walking on the beach outside the Hale Ono the day we arrived. We had the entire beach to ourselves - just soaking in the blue waves, white sand, and the smell of the ocean. Very relaxing. Hale Ono was a great home base for us. We spent a lot of time out experiencing Kauai - kayaking, fishing, garden tour, hiking, Napali Coast boat tour, and all the beaches we could fit in. Hale Ono is very, very close to many of Kauai's best beaches - Tunnels, Ke'e, and more. This house also has a very nice pool, but we were always out experiencing the island, and never got a chance to swim in it (next time). If you are reading this, chances are you are not looking for a resort vacation to sit at all vacation. Hale Ono offers all the benefits of living in a house, and puts you right in the middle of the best side of the island. We would choose to stay at Hale Ono again, and we will be back!!! Thank you!!!
