You will be pleased at the high quality and caliber of this cabin. "Magic Ranch" is a three-year old, new cabin on 10 acres in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The surrounding acreage affords privacy and quiet. The cabin's 1400 square-foot design is compact but roomy enough for a small group or a family, although it's more suited to adults than to children.

Located at the 5,000 foot elevation, Magic Ranch is comfortably settled into the Sierra Nevada mountains, but is closer to the Valley than the resorts. Summers are cooler and gentler than lower elevations, but it's still warm enough to invite swims in the many nearby lakes. In winter-time, this cabin is nestled in snow and as cozy as can be.

We are within a 20 minute drive to the following lakes: Rollins Lake (Colfax), Lake Valley Reservoir (Yuba Gap), Lake Spalding (Hwy 20/Hwy 80). Slightly farther are: Lake Clementine (Colfax/Foresthill), Donner Lake (Donner Summit).

This Non-Smoking cabin boasts an outdoor picnic area with gas barbecue (in summer months), woodburning stove, spacious living room with vaulted ceilings, formal dining room with hardwood floors, fully-equipped kitchen, spacious covered front porch, a semi-enclosed loft with sleeping for four, and a cozy master bedroom with its own covered porch.

The decor is a little bit ranch-style, a little bit western lodge-style, with a slightly southwestern flavor. You'll find cozy futons in the loft, which doubles as a sleeping area for up to four. The master bedroom houses a queen-sized log bed, and both of the covered porches welcome you with lodge-style adirondack chairs. Sit and watch the sunsets and enjoy the comfort of the original old-time camp cabin chairs.

In the living room, the lodge-style western theme is underscored with custom furnishings such as the "canyon" sofa and the over-sized "Old Hickory" arm chair, as well as the heavy rocker which once graced the den of an old Montana lodge. The furnishings are an accumulation of the owners' efforts at hand-selecting items which pleased them, and they hope you, too, are pleased.

Located above the normal "snow line," Magic Ranch receives snow every year, however, there is always winter access as the paved road and the driveway are kept plowed. It's an easy drive to summer and winter recreation - please see our website link (below) for a partial listing of recreational activities, restaurants, nearby ski areas, mountain biking areas, and fishing and hiking locations (as well as additional photos).

Even if you don't want to leave the property during your stay, the winter snow cover on the ten acres generally affords snow-play, impromptu cross-country skiing, and walks in the area both on and off the property. Likewise, in summer, spring, and fall, the serenity of the setting with its trees, clean air, and this cozy home will afford you much relaxation.

The cabin is located near the historic towns of Dutch Flat, Blue Canyon, and Emmigrant Gap, and within an easy drive of Royal Gorge Cross-Country Skiing Trail System; Soda Springs, Sugar Bowl, Boreal, and Donner Ski Ranch Ski Resort areas; Loch Leven Trail System for hiking and fishing; Lake Spalding; The Town of Truckee and Donner Lake; and many other recreational points of interest.

Accommodations are one Queen-sized bed in master bedroom and two Double-sized futon sofa sleepers in the spacious loft.

  • Mountain View: The surrounding ten acres belonging to the property are just the beginning of the lovely mountain ridge environment that awaits. Whether summer or winter, spring or fall, the views and the surroundings are beautiful and private.
  • Ski-Out: Though not located at a ski area, our ten acres provides a wonderful place to start your cross-country trek. Bring your skis or snowshoes, and go for miles!
