"Extraordinary" is an inadequate a word...

Everything about the house and the Puna District was much more than we expected. This was my 7th trip to Hawaii (first to the Big Island) and no matter how high my expectations, she always manages to exceed them! The house was the perfect place from which to explore, and because we managed to see much of the island, I can honestly say that there is plenty to see and do in the Puna District without driving all over the island! When we returned from the boat trip (to see lava flowing into the ocean), we were 5 minutes from home, while our fellow passengers had very long rides ahead of them. Snorkeling in the tide pools was like being in our own aquarium. We enjoyed lazy mornings and evenings on the lanai and always looked forward to getting back to this wonderful piece of paradise after our explorations -- after all, we were there on a full moon... spectacular! Mahalo, Beth...

Anniversary Vacation

The beachhouse was just perfect!!! It was beautifully decorated and the landscaping added a nice touch of privacy as well. We absolutely loved the house! The tide pools in our backyard were perfect for snorkeling. We woke each morning to a beautiful sunrise and were additionally treated to gorgeous moon-risings as well. As an added bonus, we were visited by a gecko and enjoyed watching the mongoose in the backyard. We spent several days enjoying Volcano National Park and its hiking trails, booked a helicopter tour to see the active lava flows, and even snorkeled with manta rays. There is so much Big Island has to offer and not enough time to see it all. We would love to return again someday but have a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get to some of those out of the way places! This was certainly a dream anniversary vacation for us!

Owner response:Thank you SO much for your kind words, I couldn't agree more, but then again, I am a bit biased ;)....Beth

Incredible rental!

I've never stayed in a vacation rental where the house was NICER than the photos! So quiet and private and the view was incredible! The house was perfect, clean and had everything we needed. The breezes off the ocean were so refreshing we never missed not having a/c. We drove around the neighborhood and this was by far the nicest house around! Just a few minutes walk down the road are the Kapoho tide pools and the snorkeling there was the best we'd seen on the island. Try the pools closer to the ocean - they're full of fish and coral! This rental was so wonderful and I'd definitely recommend it to everyone I know! Thank you!!!

Owner response:WOW!.....thank you so much for such a wonderful review!.....of course we couldn't agree more and try to describe our home to guests so they know they have a treat in store. We only wish we could spend more time there as well!

Amazing view and snorkeling!!

Beth and Rogere...my family spent 4 nights at your vacation home and we truly enjoyed every minute of it!! We arrived after dark and couldn't see the ocean but we could hear it. I was simply amazed at the view when I awoke during the sunrise the next morning...WOW!! We had such a great time and can’t wait to go back. We stayed on Oahu for 3 nights before going to your house and then we stayed on Maui for 4 additional nights after that. By far, we enjoyed our stay on the Big Island the best. The snorkeling was absolutely amazing and right in the front yard!! My two teenage boys also had a blast. Mahalo again for allowing us to share your home in paradise!!

Aloha Beth and Rogere! I wanted to say a huge Mahalo!! We had a great time in your vacation home! It was absolutely perfect for us! We snorkeled almost daily, my husband became an avid (although largely unsuccessful) fisherman and I spent many happy hours feeding fresh peas to the fish. The location was stunning and we enjoyed our coffee on the lanai each morning while the sun came up. The memories will last a life time! I did not have time on the last day to write in your guest book and for that I apologize! We simply ran out of time and the cleaning folks arrived and…well…you know how it goes. We arrived home Saturday morning but I still feel like I’m on Hawai’i time. We really enjoyed the Pahoa/Hilo area it felt like the true Hawai’i. We circumnavigated the island in a day and once we spent time in Kona we were all in agreement that we definitely made the right choice in destination! We will definitely be back to the Big Island again and who knows…perhaps we’ll even have an opportunity to stay in your little gem by the ocean! Many thanks again!

What a fantastic place!

My family and I spent almost 3 weeks here...we could have stayed longer! The location is picture perfect, although the public access to the tidal pools can be a bit noisey on the weekends (the locals seem to love spear fishing in the middle of the night!). We felt the home suited our needs completely. We especially loved sitting on the lanai each morning and enjoying the view with our coffees. Loved the snorkeling...can't say enough about how great it was to have all that right outside your door! A big highlight was being able to see the lava flow at the end of the Red Road. It's only about 15 minutes away and completely accessible and awe inspiring! We not only wouldn't hesitate recommending this home to any family wanting to stay in the area, but we would stay here again given the opportunity. Many thanks and mahalo Beth and Rogere!

Beth Just a note to let you know that we really enjoyed the house. It was better than advertised and much closer to the ocean than I had envisioned. We saw several whales and one even breached as we were locking up and all of this from the liana while we were drinking our morning coffee! The house was really functional and the new washer and dryer are great. We had great weather also. Thank you Don

What a beautiful house and property! Our family stayed for 1 week at the oceanfront Kapoho rental, my husband, myself and our 2 teen-age boys (ages 13 and 16). The tide pools were fun to explore, and snorkel but make sure you bring your aqua socks, as flip flops are usless on the lava rocks. We were even able to find some nice shells once the tide went out. The sunrises were out of this world, as every morning looked different from the day before. We even saw a crusie ship one of the evenings. The house was roomy enough for 4 people, and we loved having the washer/dryer and dish washer. Plus the added bonus of a computer with high-speed internet, so we were able to research some of the sites we wanted to see while we were there. You can see & hear the ocean from the living room, kitchen, dining and the main bedroom. There is a wall of sliding glass doors that open up to the lanai and the view is unbelievable! The neighborhood is quiet, and there is absolutely no road noise. Which is a problem we have had with other rentals. If you drive up the road (about 20 minutes) to Kalapana, you can see the lava flowing at night... plus get ice cream or a nice meal at the cafe. There was even a band at the little outside bar on Sunday night. Pahoa and Hilo are only a short drive away for groceries and gas. This is our 3rd vacation to Hawaii. Always a house rental, and always on the ocean. The 1st year Ohau, the 2nd year Kauai and this year the big island. We by far found preference in the big island and I can't say enough great things about this rental. I told my husband I truly didn't want to leave. I would HIGHLY recommend this rental.

Kapoho Home

Where to start.....well the map Beth supplied was spot on and we were thankful since we arrived in the dark. The home sits on the tidal pools and it was just killer. The lanai overlooks the tidal pools and one can hear the ocean waves crashing on the reef all night long. At night one could see the the cruise ships pass by. The home itself served our purpose perfectly. We toured the Volcanoes from here as well as the city of Hilo. Be sure to stop at Walmart in Hilo on the way to the house, nearest town for supplies is roughly 30 miles away (Pahoa), so those qiuck trips to the market are not so quick. We stayed here because I love diving and snorkeling. The tide pools out the back gate are great but if you are not very experienced or have children I would recommend going the very short walk on the road leading to the left of the property. There is a parking area there and a large cove with easy access.....no climbing over lava flows to get from one pool to another. The water was crystal clear in most places and the sea life abundant. Be sure to take a camera that is waterproof as the pictures can be quite good in the tide pools. There are abundant coconuts in the area, we made candied coconut for snacking on, very easy to make, just Google it. The internet was reliable and fast enough. Beth provides a computer and printer so problem there. This is the tropical side of the Big Island so be sure to bring some mosquito spray, they were not much of a problem at the house as the ocean breeze kept them at bay but other areas they could be bothersome. Hwy 137 was a killer drive to some great beach spots, Ahalanui Park has the perfect place for kids, it is a natural pond with heated water. It is closed on the first wed. of each month. Overall just what we were looking for. This area is called Vacation Land by the locals and one has to be careful when renting here as some of the properties were terrible...this is an area that can be a real nightmare for a property owner to keep up, the salt air and humidity takes it's toll on everything here. Beth's place is maintained pretty good considering these factors. I can see a house like this being a full time edeavor to keep the elements at bay.
