A Fabulous Vacation Home

Guest: Yvonne (Vancouver, washington)
Date of Stay: 11/19/11 Review Submitted: 12/07/11

We spent this past Thanksgiving week at this home, and it exceeded our expectations. The home is spacious, the bedrooms comfortable, and the ambiance is perfect with an ocean view from every room. The kitchen was well stocked and fun for cooking. Nancy arrived just as we did to warmly welcome us and show us around. Bill came by too and loaned us boogey boards and snorkels. What more could one ask from hosts? There was a problem with the refrigerator, but they were prompt in their response and concerned about our comfort. We had a seven year old with us who loved the fooseball in the basement, and we enjoyed croquet on the expansive lawn. At this time of the year, the snorkeling wasn't particularly good in this area, but we had plenty to keep us busy in and around the water. And each night we were lulled to sleep by the sound of wind and surf. We hope to return next year. We have rented several houses in the past and this was one of the best. The hosts were the best we have met. Thank you, Nancy and Bill.

Owner response:Aloha Robert and Ohana. Mahalo for the "Fabulous" review. It was a pleasure meeting you and your wonderful family and we look forward to meeting the rest of your family next year. Mele Kalikimaka me ka, Hau'oli Makahiki Hou Aloha and A hui hou Nancy and Ohana

Spectacular Home

Guest: Marci (California)
Date of Stay: 12/24/10 Review Submitted: 07/03/11

Driving up to this beautiful house was an awesome feeling. At first we thought we arrived at the wrong address because the pictures and reviews do not do it justice. We were greeted by a beautiful peacock in the front yard and as we opened the front door we knew that we picked the perfect place. The view of the ocean was magnificent from the front door and throughout the house. The accommodations were perfect for our family. We were traveling with 4 generations. Master bedroom for mom and dad. 2nd bedroom for our son and daughter-n-law with our 3 week old grandbaby. Grandma and Granddaughter in the 3rd bedroom with 2 twin beds. Our youngest daughter (17) loved being on the spacious futon in the living area. She was convinced she had the best view of any location in the house. Each bedroom has a private bathroom, a deck with ocean views, and comfortable beds. We cooked many meals in the spacious and well equipped kitchen and ate several of them out on the deck which also overlooks the ocean. In the recreation room downstairs there is a pool table and foosball table. We only used this room a couple of times because there is so much to do in Hawaii, but it was nice when we wanted some down time. We recommend this location to any family looking for a beautiful home with nearly a private beach and spectacular views. Just a side Note: If you are there in the winter, don't let the rain get in the way of your fun. It rained 5 out of the 10 days we were there, but we figured we would be wet in the ocean so why not go for walks in the rain. Great Memories! Don't forget the Mosquito Repellant that time of year.

Owner response:Aloha Marcie, Hope all is well with you and your family. It sure was nice to hear from you about your stay with us last December. It is always nice when we have guests let future guests know about their stay and the accomodation. We are glad that you enjoyed the Views, spaciousness of the home. We hope to see you in for a future visit to the Islands. Mahalo, Nancy and Bill

Yay! Happy "Family Time" in Hawaii!

Guest: Glenda (Quincy, California)
Date of Stay: 11/11/10 Review Submitted: 01/06/11

The website and pictures of this place are nothing compared to actually being there! The house, the decks, the yard, the beach... Everything was wonderful! Each bedroom with its own view of the ocean and private deck was a treat for the entire family. Everyone having their own bathrooms was a huge benefit also. Everything from the giant shower and tub in the master bedroom to the wonderful kitchen and living room made for a very enjoyable vacation; one our family will never forget. Being in such an awesome house, right on the beach...It just couldn't have been better! What a wonderful vacation rental!

Owner response:Aloha Glenda, Glad to hear your entire Ohana enjoyed your stay with us. The home is a Beautiful one and we are sure glad that you enjoyed every bit of it. We look forward to a future visit from you. Please don't hesitate to contact us for your visit in the future. Mahalo and we wish you a Great New Year. Nancy and Ohana

As advertised and more!

Guest: Michael B (Fallbrook, CA)
Date of Stay: 07/22/10 Review Submitted: 08/10/10

Having stayed at another (adjacent) property at Maleakahana Bay in the past, we were prepared for the beauty, privacy, and tranquility of the area, but the house exceeded our expectations in every way. Large, airy, clean with unbeatable views and a well equipped kitchen for those of us who like to cook (kahuku shrimp kabobs). Our stay even included a peacock who was fond of the front porch area in the morning. Pounders Beach for bodysurfing, Sharks Cove for snorkeling, Waimea for jumping off the rock and swimming with turtles and your own private deck for the evening cool down. Was able to catch Dodger and Angel games on the cable, and the house is WiFi'd for those of us who just can't disconnect entirely. Reservations and payment arrangements were professional and painless as Nancy and Bill are very responsive. They checked on us upon our arrival, during our stay, and returned our cleaning deposit very promptly upon our departure. This type of local support ensures your vacation will stay on track. This experience this property offers is rare indeed and we recommend it without reservation. Fallbrook, CA

Owner response:Aloha Michael, Mahalo for your Great Review of your stay with us. Sounds like you enjoyed all aspects of the house and the Island. This really helps people looking for a Great Place to spend their vacation in the Islands a preview of what it can be like for them. Mahalo and we look forward to see you all in the future. Ten Stars!

Guest: Nonnie Biscotti (Redstone, Colorado)
Date of Stay: 05/08/10 Review Submitted: 06/01/10

Where are the ten stars? I want to check that one! As soon as we drove up the driveway, we knew we made the right decision. As soon as we went through the front door, we knew we really, really got it right. The descriptions on your website are very accurate. I'll just add that the house is spacious, airy, with panoramic views of the ocean from every room. Such a pleasure and a privilege to stay there. We appreciated that the owners would share their beautiful property for us to enjoy. This side of the island is wonderful. It still has that Old Hawaii feeling. Shrimp trucks, plantations, and not that far from Haleiwa for a good dinner at Haleiwa Joes. If you are fortunate, Bill's fisherman friend may make a great catch when you are there. The fish we got from Bill was amazing. We felt sad when we left because the house and property felt like our home. Guess I'll have to play my ocean wave machine to relive that experience. Thanks Nancy and Bill. Can't say enough good things about this property.

Owner response:WOW!! What a review. It sure was a pleasure meeting you all. We are glad that you were able to enjoy this wonderful home. All you shared about your stay says you enjoyed yourselves and we hope that we will see you all again in the future. Mahalo for all your kind words. Aloha Nancy and BIll

We have recently returned home from our second stay at Hale O Aina Kai - as we enjoyed ourselves so much the first time, we came back less than a year later. This house lives up to the description of more than a beach house. For our family, including a 3 year old, it is an incredibly relaxing place. The accommodations are very nice with comfortable bedrooms and plenty of bathrooms. Relaxing is easy on the wrap around deck or the king size day bed in the living room. We enjoyed preparing meals in the well equipped gourmet kitchen. The nicely kept grounds provide a fun and safe place to play. (for adults and children). Just beyond the yard is the entrance to Malaekahana beach - practically your own private beach. Great for walking, boogie boarding and playing in the sand. If you are looking for a great house with lots of room on Oahu's North Shore, this is it! Thanks also to Nancy & Bill for their wonderful hospitality. We look forward to seeing you in the future.

Owner response:Aloha, Mahalo for your comments about your stay. We sure enjoyed having you stay once again. Glad you all enjoyd the house and surrounding areas. We look forward to see you all in the future. Mahalo, Nancy and Bill

A great time was had in February 2010. The house is on the NE shore near Malaekahana State Park, just north of Laie, HI. The beach is fantastic- white, medium/heavy grain sand, fairly sloped. It has a protected reef that reduces swells. The state park exists on each end of the beach. Very nice beach walks. Had it to ourselves on the weekdays-weekends only a few people walked by each day. There are some rocks in the water in front of the house so swimming is better about 100 feet to the north. There are plenty rock free areas and it does not affect your enjoyment or the beach. The house is beautiful and in good shape, normal coastal wear on a young property - its not brand new perfect – but very nice. It matches the VRBO listing. Pictures appear recent as of 2/2010. It’s on the beach with one deck above the beach and nice decks on the beach side of the house. Some door screens are missing, but there are plenty of screened windows to provide ventilation when needed. The upstairs master suite is excellent. The master bath has 2 toilets, separate shower and tub. This suite has its own private deck. The king bed is a very tall, access might be a problem for some.Main living area has a half bath. Good utility room (washer/dryer) - do laundry and reduce your travel load. The other 2 bedrooms (one up/one down) are nice and have their own full bathrooms – showers, no tub. One of the 3 king beds is in the living area as a day bed, so the bedroom (up) has two twin beds. For needs we swapped the mattresses so we had 3 king rooms.Downstairs there is a game room, which we never used.Decent linens, pillows and towels are provided. The kitchen and cooking utensils were excellent. One of the best of many homes I have rented. (Note: for most rentals we carry our own knives, pots and utensils. Not needed here.) Modern appliances: oven, microwave, fridge, dishwater, coffee maker, blenders – everything needed.A decent, large 5 burner gas grill is on the back porch (facing the road) with an access window to the kitchen. The "stairway" to the beach did require some agility. My 70 year old parents could make it, with our help to hold their hands and balance them on 2 larger than normal rise steps. They are in good shape for their age. Mobility restricted people should be aware. Shopping for groceries at Foodland in Laie is easy, and close. No need to buy food in Honolulu. Major brand alcohol are there as well, but its a limited sel
