New, 4700 sq. ft. log home on 4 private, rustic acres, perched on the mountainside at an elevation of 5400 feet. It's only a 15 minute drive to Snowbasin, 25 minutes to Powder Mountain, and just a few minutes to the famous Shooting Star Saloon in Huntsville as well as Pineview Lake. In addition to downhill skiing in the winter, there's snow-shoeing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. In the summer there's hiking, water-skiing, jet-skiing, sailing, off-roading, mountain-biking and golf ... year-round outdoor recreation!
Your families will settle right in and feel completely at home in this warm, sunny, beautifully furnished, 4-bedroom lodge. There's plenty of room for everyone to spread out after a day outdoors. Relax by one of our fireplaces, listen to the gurgling of the stream running by the house, take in the awesome views of Ogden Valley and Snowbasin from every room. Watch for the abundant wildlife... try to spot deer, elk, moose, fox, wild turkeys, rabbits, pheasant, hawks and eagles.
Our main floor features an amazing great room with a fireplace, log-vaulted ceilings, panoramic views and a baby grand piano. The great room opens to the dining room and our large, well-appointed kitchen. The master suite with a king-size bed is also located on the main level, as is a tiled entry room (for all those wet clothes), powder room, laundry room and 2-car garage.
Upstairs are two very large bedrooms with queen-size beds, another full bath and an office area in the loft overlooking the great room. Connect your laptop in the office to print out your boarding passes for your return flights (wireless internet provided throughout, with a printer in the office).
Downstairs is a perfect environment for your kids, with a large, sunny bunk room that sleeps six in comfortable twin beds ... the deer and wild fowl come right up and browse by the windows! There's a third full bath; an adjacent living area with a second fireplace; 65" TV with cable, surround-sound, VCR, DVD player and I-Pod dock; a game room with foosball and ping pong; plus plenty of board games and a library for those family evenings after a day of active fun.
As you drive 10 minutes to our valley supermarket your kids will point out flocks of sheep, cattle, llamas and horses. Or, visit the valley's monastery and purchase their locally-produced honey.
This is the perfect home for a few families to meet ... or for an extended family reunion ... or for a getaway of friends.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
We live in Coronado, California (across the bay from San Diego), enjoying a mild climate on the Pacific Ocean. Dad is a retired engineer, now "paying it forward" in a second career as a physics teacher in a low-income high school. We've always taken family ski and back-country vacations, to get away from the crowd. We longed for a permanent place in the mountains where we could periodically retreat from our city life. We had the great fortune to have swapped our timeshare for a ski week in the Ogden Valley, and on Friday that week we were hooked ... we bought this land, and were able to build our dream getaway home a few years later!
We designed our home specifically so that we could enjoy it with other families, with the adults relaxing on the main level while our kids and their friends could have their own space, on the lower level, private but not out of our reasonable supervision.
Our goal in renting our home is not to make a huge return on investment but, rather, to defray expenses by having families like ours appreciate it as much as we do. When you look at the cost of a rental timeshare, then consider the space and comfort that our home offers for a comparable price ... there really is no comparison!
Why the Owner Chose Snowbasin
The Ogden Valley is fantastic and, quite possibly, unique. Our home is private, but minutes from two of the best ski resorts in the world. We are situated amidst incredible beauty in a very rural setting, yet we're an easy, one-hour drive from Salt Lake City Airport. The local people are warm, friendly and welcoming. We can leave our home in Coronado in the morning and ski that afternoon.
This is truly one of the still "undiscovered" retreats in our great country!
The Unique Benefits of this House
Our home is large, yet warm and cozy. Coming from the city, we relish the amazing views of the valley and surrounding mountains, which change by the minute as the sun moves across the sky. We enjoy searching out the wildlife as we sip our morning coffee, seeing who can count the most deer on the hillsides, and who can spot the bald eagle that is soaring from its nest across the stream. At night, we gaze at the arch of the Milky Way and the billions of stars, far from the interfering lights of the city and suburbs.
It may sound strange ... but we always have a little trouble falling asleep on our first night here, because of the total absence of the usual noises we've grown used to ... traffic (and car alarms!!!), planes, neighbors' TVs and loud conversations, barking dogs ... our first morning, though, when we wake up to the sound of the water in our stream and the faint mooing of the cows several miles away, we feel an almost physical release of accumulated stress. This is our Eden ... our most relaxing place!

The house is unbelievable, it is very well kept, very well updated, and a lot of fun. From the second you walk in the door, you are amazed. The kitchen is very handy to cook in while still interacting with everyone in your group. The views of the mountains and wildlife are breathtaking. The house is located far enough from any sort of busy street that is relaxing, though it is located close enough to any stores so you are not completely cut off from the rest of the world. Snow Basin is just about 10 minutes away. Watching the sunrise over the mountain while rocking by the fireplace every day will always be a great memory. The basement is a ton of fun with surround sound, the game table, ping pong, and fooseball. We had a great time!

This is a fabulous home. It was exactly as pictured and perfect for a large multi-family ski trip. The kids loved having their own "space" downstairs. The kitchen was exceptionally well equipped and we cooked dinner in every night. Loved all the windows and views. It was an easy drive up to Snowbasin for skiing. The owner was very helpful and sent good information before our arrival. We hope to go back someday soon!

Our family spent a week in this wonderful home. Every detail is well thought out. Electronics- from Wi-FI to a printer in the home office, a docking station for the IPOD, surround sound on the big screen- it went on and on. As an adult I enjoyed the fact that the bunkroom, TV, ping pong table and foosball table were downstairs allowing the kids to raise a ruckus while keeping the upstairs living room quiet and cozy! As a gourmet cook I have always been disappointed in rental kitchens that "pretend" to be furnished. This kitchen is furnished with every gadget, pot , knife and colander you could ever need- and enough cutlery and plates for a seated dinner for at least 12! Plus- the gas cooktop and oven make cooking a breeze! The view from every window is stunning, the hot water was on a recirculation system (lovely on cold mornings) and the beds are outstanding. I was particularly tickled that the "house library" had several of my favorite books and one book I was currently reading! We are already planning our return!

What a fantastic home! We had the most amazing time over the holidays! It has all the luxuries of home, yet offers the feeling of being in a rustic lodge. We could not ask for anything better and we will return again and again! Dianne, the owner, made the process simple and easy and proved to be quite accommodating to our needs and requests. Simply awesome!!! Thank you again!

We greatly enjoyed our stay in Huntsville, snowboarding at Powder Mountain. The lodge is gorgeous and comfortable, certainly among the best properties in the area. The owners are pleasant folks, with whom negotiations were simple and professional. We'll be returning next year.

This is a beautiful log home. No detail left out. Perched up on the hillside, the views of the valley and snow basin are spectacular. It easily holds 2 or more families. The downstairs bunkroom(3 bunkbeds) makes you wish you were a kid again. Big screen, ping pong table, fooseball, fireplace. Upstairs are 3 private bedrooms with stunning views and gorgious bathrooms. The Kitchen is a dream to cook in we had 12 for dinner! All in All a lovely place to gather. We will be back.

We stayed in this beautiful cabin for a long weekend and had a wonderful time. Actually has a lot more grandeur than your average "cabin," but with the same warmth, charm, and coziness we were seeking. Very private, gorgeous views, lots of light, well equipped and nicely furnished; I would recommend to anyone.

I just had an absolutely delightful, relaxing weekend in this spectacular home in the beautiful Ogden Valley. I must say, at first I was a little skeptical, having spent time in almost every mountain resort west of the Mississippi -- how could this place live up to my expectations? I've rented a lot of cabins, some nicer than others. But both this log home and the setting surpassed my expectations. The home is impeccable--in comfort, amenities, ambience and location. We played games around the dining table at night, sang songs around the piano, enjoyed a glass of wine while watching a glorious sunset over the mountains, sipped coffee as we counted the wild turkeys or deer in the morning, and watched old movies on the downstairs big screen t-v by the cozy fireplace. During the day, we scouted the two truly awesome ski fields -- Utah's best kept secrets-- did some shopping in charming Old Town Ogden and had a Star Burger at the Shooting Star Saloon, Utah's oldest continually operating saloon and truly a must-see. There's some real characters in there! (And a lovely proprietress.) If you are looking for a great family vacation, a fun girls getaway or a couples outing (there is plenty of privacy in the layout of the home), it would be hard to find a better home and setting than this one. Highly, highly recommended.
