Wonderful stay during the holiday season

This 2 BR unit in the Essex House was simply PERFECT for our family's recent 3 night stay in Manhattan! With 4 adults (2 couples) and 3 young kids, the size and lay-out of the unit was just right for us. Check-in at the main lobby of the Essex House was a breeze, as we were greeted by the wonderful, helpful staff that also supports the 5-star Jumeirah hotel within the same building. The unit itself was clean and cozy, and we felt as though we were living "at home" while visiting the Big Apple. The large beds in the two bedrooms were both very comfortable, with each bedroom having its own full bathroom (although as pointed out by others, there is still some general maintenance required for the bathrooms). The pull-out sofa mattress was less comfortable, and as such, I would not recommend it for adults. However, for 2 of our young kids, it was generally fine. In any event, the large living/dining room was a perfect place for our family to hang out - whether in the morning, during breaks from sight-seeing or when winding down in the evening. Also, upon arrival, we stocked up at the nearby Whole Foods Market, and with the use of the small kitchen, we were able to enjoy some light meals/snacks during our stay, which would not have been possible in a normal hotel room. We highly recommend this unit - particularly to other families who are looking to stay in the heart of midtown. Tony (from Shanghai, China)

Great Location

The unit was clean,quite large and well furnished. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was small but great for breakfast and making snacks. Not enough room to cook a meal but then who cooks when you are in NYC. The owner was great to deal with and even met us for dinner the night we arrived. Being accross from Central Park is a big plus and the location was terrific. Having the concierge at the hotel helping us was an added bonus. There were only 3 of us staying in the unit and we all agreed we would stay there again.

Recommended for:Sightseeing, girls getaway, age 55+.

Great Location, spacious rooms for NYC, but lots of deferred maintenance items

Recently stayed here and found the unit perfect for a party of 5. I have no idea how one would manage with more than that and have no idea how one would sleep 8. Condos are privately owned so don't count on hotel to help you out much. Sofa bed in living room, which we needed to use to accommodate the fifth person, was monumentally uncomfortable and so sloped when extended that blood rushed to your head. Asked for roll away bed from front desk at hotel only to be told that none available. Due top some screw up in communications between hotel and owner, unit wasn't clean on arrival and so couldn't move in and unpack at promised hour. This might account for the absence of items I expect (like toilet paper, for heaven's sakes), all of which I thought could be remedied by a call to the front desk. However, since the unit is privately owned, no TP forthcoming so had to trudge out to store to get it, paper towels, napkins, salt and pepper etc. Kitchen miniscule--it took 15 minutes to do a batch of scrambled eggs with the burner set to high. Deferred maintenance biggest concern. Towel rack fell off wall, shower stall door in pieces and one toilet had to be flushed by hand by reaching into the water storage tank. With all that said, it is a great location and the two bedrooms are commodious by Manhattan standards as is the living room/dining room area.

This place is an exceptional rental. The location, The apartment and Dorothy was great to work with. Would come back to stay in this lovely apartment. Very clean and great linens. Restaurants and shopping everywhere. In all the years I have gone to NY (about 30) I can say it's the best location I have ever stayed at. And having a small kitchen to make coffee and bring food in was great. It's all right there at your fingertips..

We recently had a wonderful trip to NY thanks to the location and splendor of this apartment. Having grown up in NYC I already knew the location was great, but everything about our experience was superb. From the decadent entry, gracious employees, wonderful apartment, and of course Dorothy-who made us feel very welcome. Thank you. We walked everywhere, the apartment was very clean and well appointed, and I would recommend this apartment to anyone who wants to live like a New Yorker.
