It is cozy and quaint with a wood burning fireplace built at waist height. Old and new come together," heated floors; French doors in both rooms overlooking lavender and sunflowers. European fixtures; Large Mexican tile shower for two with a window that opens to red geraniums and wisteria.
Dine under the oak tree or relax in the evening by the fire pit.
The view of the grounds is full of tropical plants and colors. In the summer you can help harvest the lavender or pick a bouquet of wild flowers or giant sunflowers!

Year Purchased: 2004
The Hacienda was designed and built by an architectural engineer. He was inspired by the secret walls he would pass by on the streets of Italy. Upon entering our gate you will be transported into another world, with fountains flowing, colorful gardens and birds of all kinds coming to nest in the red clay tiles.He planted 180 lavender plants that line the back of two acres and in July when it blooms we are truly in paradise. In the beginning when it was just a field of mud and a frame for the casita I came along and a romance was born. I started with just cuttings from a previous home and the garden started breathing. So over a four year period we inspired one another with our love for color, texture and form. We lived in the casita from the moment the walls were plastered. No toilet, no shower, no kitchen, but wow,was it fun. Our beautiful main house has been built and more walls to come and even a pool. It is a never ending creative process that we love sharing it with our friends, who love getting away from it all.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
We are told by people who walk through the gate that they feel like they are in the south of France ,Italy or Mexico. Our neighbors said it looks like an Italian villa. The casita has It"s own outdoor eating area and two patios to sit in. The light at the end of the day is filled with a golden color that you try to absorb every moment with your eyes or a camera. Every year we plant giant sunflowers that create a livey happy wall around us. If you miss your pets we have a few of them also.play ball with Poochini our dog We have a large lawn for frisbee.

We have stayed at the Casita on the Hacienda property, each Spring & Summer over the last 3 years for weekend retreats to Cornerstone. We love the romantic european country art & design sense. Architectural Digest should include a spread on this prize property. Cena & Rogers combined talent is displayed each time, we visit. The flowers are amazing! We enjoy the grounds for relaxing mornings & evening outdoor dinners. The property is close to downtown Sonoma for visits to the historic Mission & Park. Of course, golf & wineries are all around. It's a fabulous special event location.

We enjoyed two lovely nights at the casita where even on the hottest day the casita stayed cool. We sat outside in the evening and drank local wine and played catch with Poochina. Everything was peaceful and quiet with some lovely music playing in the evening from the main house. My ipad got internet access everywhere on the property. We awoke to a beautiful bouquet of fresh lavender which we took along on our road trip, making our car smell wonderful. We will return!

Unfamiliar with the area as this was our first time visiting, I completely relied on the reviews about this cottage on my decision to rent. I should have taken the hint on how disorganized the owners were when she would not return my emails until a couple of days prior our arrival. Before that, all I had was a verbal confirmation. (Despite my constant follow-up for a month!) The whole time we were there, we awakened to the sound of construction that went on the whole day. The whole property is certainly a work in progress making me believe that the construction mayhem is a mainstay. The amenities listed were not what it is to be in reality. BBQ grill was a mound of dirt, eating utensils needed to be cleaned, internet connection did not work, etc. Other than the disastrous accomodation, the whole of Sonoma and its neighboring town is divine. Visiting the area again we will certainly do but staying at this little "casita", we will DEFINITELY SKIP!
Owner response:We are constantly thinking of ways to improve our property to make it one of the most unique and enjoyable experiences a traveler can have. Because this is a rural property we need to use machinery in early spring to maintain and improve the landscaping. Although this does not generally impact the serenity of our guest’s stay, on this one occasion we needed to start in the early morning and asked our guests if they wouldn’t mind the disruption and they said it would be ok. We apologized for any noise the next day but they still did not seem to mind. We would have of course offered a discount if they had been inconvenienced and would expect our guests to request whatever they need to make their stay a wonderful experience. We continue to offer a vacation experience that is unlike any other--a lushly landscaped oasis within an old world walled compound.[

My husband and I stayed to celebrate his 60th birthday and enjoy the beauty of Sonoma. We were delighted with the welcome we received from Cena Jane and Roger. The seperate casita was just as described and a wonderful place to relax. Roger even brought over a chiminea for our evening fires. We highly recommend this lovely retreat.

We could not have been happier with out recent stay (September 2010) stay at this property. It's close enough to Sonoma and the major roads to get you where you need to be, but it's so peaceful and quiet and an incredible place to relax and get a great nights sleep. The grounds are beautiful with flowering plants, rosemary, olive trees, mint, etc everywhere. Their very friendly dog will come over to visit and say hi, and in the morning as we sat outside before heading out for the day humming birds would come and follow us around. We will certainly be back on a future visit. Word of warning, watch out for the stop sign behind the bushes at the corner if you don't want to meet the local police.

Very enjoyable weekend stay in the "casita". Roger and Cena were very gracious hosts and were concerned that everything was to our liking. Their dog, Poochini looked in on us to also make sure we were comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and the casita felt to be a bigger space than a typical motel room. We did not use the outside space to it's full potential, but there is a BBQ and large entertaining area if you wanted to host a small gathering for wine tasting or a BBQ. While the casita was not air conditioned it was very comfortable even when the temperature reached 85 degrees in Sonoma. The whole experience there was charming and very relaxing for us, and we will definitely stay here the next time we visit the area.
