Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2000
Our family began its love affair with Provence in 1984 when we spent a month in the Var. As a result of this early stay at a French gite, I began a villa rental business (from which I am now retired). My husband once said "Why don't you start looking for a retirement home for us?" There was no question: I headed for the Luberon (east of Avignon), one of my favorite places in the world. Within months and after living out several chapters from Peter Mayle's A YEAR IN PROVENCE, we had our own residence secondaire. Every time I drive up the hill from Lumiere to Goult, I get teary eyed and grateful to be "home again". So, I am a retired business owner and my husband a retired attorney. We live in Maryland when we are not in France.
Why the Owner Chose Goult
I am drawn to village life: the short, airy walk to the bakery, the apertif hour at the Cafe, the fetes in the village square: we got it all just outside our door--the Place de la Liberation in Goult is people-watching central, with kind neighbors and inquisitive tourists. The big shady micocoulier tree and the dappled sunlight shining on our pink fascade attract many budding artists...well, what can I say? It is my little peace of heaven.
The Unique Benefits of this Village House
Despite the fun life of village living, the best part of Maison Rose is in the rear: a dining terrace with summer kitchen, and a cool inviting pool surrounded by ancient stone walls, climbing roses, wisteria, and a pergola covered by grape vines. We spend almost all of our time "out back".
