Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2000

Our family began its love affair with Provence in 1984 when we spent a month in the Var. As a result of this early stay at a French gite, I began a villa rental business (from which I am now retired). My husband once said "Why don't you start looking for a retirement home for us?" There was no question: I headed for the Luberon (east of Avignon), one of my favorite places in the world. Within months and after living out several chapters from Peter Mayle's A YEAR IN PROVENCE, we had our own residence secondaire. Every time I drive up the hill from Lumiere to Goult, I get teary eyed and grateful to be "home again". So, I am a retired business owner and my husband a retired attorney. We live in Maryland when we are not in France.

Why the Owner Chose Goult

I am drawn to village life: the short, airy walk to the bakery, the apertif hour at the Cafe, the fetes in the village square: we've got it all just outside our door--the Place de la Liberation in Goult is people-watching central, with kind neighbors and inquisitive tourists. The big shady micocoulier tree and the dappled sunlight shining on our pink fascade attract many budding artists...well, what can I say? It is my little peace of heaven.

The Unique Benefits of this House

Despite the fun life of village living, the best part of Maison Rose is in the rear: a dining terrace with summer kitchen, and a cool inviting pool surrounded by ancient stone walls, climbing roses, wisteria, and a pergola covered by grape vines. We spend almost all of our time "out back".

Charming cottage, in a charming village

My family and I stayed here in August 2011, the house is perfectly situated on the village square overlooking the church, the town has such French charm and is perfectly placed for exploring the incredible beauty of the Luberon Valley. For us, the garden and pool made this home, it's perfect for outside dining and the swimming pool was a godsend, as it was extremly warm. The house was well equipped with everything you would need and the bedrooms were spacious and the beds very comfortable, our two children loved the 'kid's room' with it's cute single beds and moon night light. May not be ideal for somone with disabilities or toddlers as there is a stone staircase leading upstairs. The owner Susan provides an abundance of information on the village and the surrounding area, you will never be short of something to do or places to visit/eat etc. My children loved the selection of DVD's after a long day of sightseeing. We were frequent visitors to the local Cafe de la poste, great for lunch and drinks in the evening. All in all a lovely family trip which we hope to repeat someday soon

Best house rental ever!

We stayed in La Maison Rose in July 2010, and it was everything and more than the description. The pool and garden with an eating terrace was heavenly. That area has a lovely table and summer kitchen. We are breakfast out there every morning, and some dinners in the very pretty dining room. The dishes, place mats, glassware, are all lovely. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are large. I don't think the photos do La Maison Rose justice! Goult is a perfect center for day trips, and we even had the pleasure of a classical music concert in the old church across the square from the house.

Wonderful home, wonderful village

We stayed at Maison Rose for a week in 2003 and everything was fantastic. The home is located right on the main square in close proximity to a small grocery store, a bakery, butcher and restaurants and cafes. Goult itself is a perfect base for exploring Provence and the Vaucluse. The house had three comfortable bedrooms. The well equiped kitchen and dining room both had large windows opening up to the square. The bathrooms were modern, the living room was spacious and the back yard was quiet and relaxing (I understand there is now a pool in the back yard). We would not hesitate to recommend Maison Rose to anyone seeking a comfortable, well-located rental in one of the prettiest parts of Provence.
