Great Place for Families!

Had a wonderful time! The house worked perfect for our 2 families, 9 total guests. It was nice to come 'home' after a long day walking. The house is decorated nicely and worked well for us. We took the metro station everyday; it is a short 10-15 minute walk from the house. Patrick was gracious enough to accommodate the larger vehicle that we had. The neighborhood is nice too; we sat on the porches each evening and enjoyed the wonderful weather. Would highly recommend to families of all ages.

Wonderful Experience!

As twelve college students, we were hoping to find a centrally located home. This house completely fit the bill. We were able to use the Metro to get to the mall. We also drove to DC in two mini-vans, and they fit very nicely in the garage. We did not have to pay for any parking during our stay, thanks to the great parking at this property. We were all pleasantly surprised with the interior of the home, everyone comfortably slept (which is uncommon in such large groups)! The home owner was also so helpful, when the garage did not go up, he came over to fix it within a few minutes. He also helped us to find a grocery store and the metro station. He was wonderful! We had a great stay!

Wonderful Place to Stay

I have brought a large group to stay in this house for the past two years, and both visits have been wonderful. The interior of the house is artfully decorated and has beautiful hardwood floors and all the comforts of home. More than just a place to stay, it is part of the vacation experience. Since we traveled exclusively by Metro train, Patrick also very graciously took us to get groceries on the day we arrived. Every aspect of our experience was positive.

The house is beatiful, well located, clean and has everything you need. It has many nice details. The neighborhood peaceful and with pretty houses. But the best of all is Mr. Patrick; more than the owner, think in Patrick as a friend, always wishing to help. I definitely recommend this home.

Beautiful and spacious home

Guest: Dee K. (Florida)
Date of Stay: 12/08/11 Review Submitted: 02/15/12

We selected this property for our family gathering of 8 adults based on the accommodations described, its location in a family-friendly neighborhood close to tourist attractions and metro travel, and the positive reviews of previous renters. The availability of a garage and the personal interaction & proximity of the owner were advantages we did not find offered in other locations. We found this home to be as described: neat, bright, clean and lovingly restored. There was plenty of room for all of us, and the restoration and accommodations reflected the pride and craftsmanship of the owner and his wife. The house had, literally, everything that eight people could want for a long weekend in DC. After our first day of touring, we returned home to find that we had been the unfortunate victims of a home invasion, burglary and auto theft. Even though the police confirmed that this was an unusual occurrence in this neighborhood, we chose to shorten our gathering and return home. Patrick has been, and continues to be, fully supportive of our losses and emotions. He is as much a victim of this crime as we are. Though he was not required to do so, he returned our rental monies to us.

Owner response:The part of running a vacation rental that I have enjoyed the most over the past four years has been to help people from all over the world enjoy their vacations in Washington, D.C. No guests before or after these visitors experienced theft in the home or the city. The LeDroit Park neighborhood has one of the lowest crime rates in the city, but anywhere in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area citizens need to exercise care to safeguard their belongings. If the garage and the back gate to the vacation home are closed and locked, the only access to the house from the back is by scaling a neighbor's high fence. The home has a security system which can be activated as an added precaution. It was extremely distressing to me that this family had property stolen from the home while they were out sightseeing. I was sorry that they left a day early to return home and was glad to return the money they paid for the rental.

The best

Date of Stay: 06/29/11 Review Submitted: 07/15/11

My family of 13 stayed in this fabulous home from June 29 - July 6 and according to my gang, the house was perfect. There is not enough praise that can be given to Patrick, the owner. He walked me to the Metro so that I would know exactly where it was. He gave us directions to Costco, he made sure we received the extra benefits at the local supermarket AND he invited us to participate in the 4th of July block party. As my children stated, this is a visit they will never forget. The house was immaculate and plenty of room for all of us. We especially loved the way it was decorated. The back yard was well tended and plenty of room for the younger ones to play. All in all a perfect vacation at the perfect house plus all of the neighbors were the best.

A very comfortable place to stay

Date of Stay: 06/05/11 Review Submitted: 07/04/11

This property is exactly as described. It was very clean and comfortable; truly a "home away from home". Cleo met us shortly after we arrived, took us to the grocery store and showed us the metro station, bus stop, etc. She had plenty of patience! There were 8 of us, 4 adults and 4 children (young adults). We had plenty of room and never felt crowded. Everything was in working order. We took cabs in the mornings since we had appointment times and were not certain of our route to get there. My 73 y/o legs found the walk from the subway station a little long after spending the day doing much walking while sightseeing. It took us a while to figure out how to connect to the right bus. One of our group had a car which we did use for interim trips to the store. We were never concerned about safety, but we traveled in a group and rarely at night. We found the neighbors to be quite friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed the back deck and the front porch; perfect for morning coffee or a relaxing evening glass of wine. I would highly recommend this property and would stay there again.

The owner welcomed us at arrival and walked us through the house. It is spacious, and was presented spotless clean. The house is located on a quiet street just a few miles away from the center of the city. The owner lives across the street and was very friendly. A two-car garage comes with the house -- a great convenience. Highly recommended.

Patricks home made our stay in DC perfect. The property went far beyond our expectations. It was very clean, spacious, and had all the amenities of home. Patrick's commitment to customer service is unbeatable. We arrived after 10:00 pm and he still met with us, drove us to the grocery store, and directed us to the nearest Metro stop which is a short 10 minute walk from the house. The opinion of 5 police officers from California concluded that Patrick's neighborhood is very safe as is the walk to the Metro. The house is large enough for multiple families and is very comfortable. Thanks Patrick for your generous hospitality.

This is a great property and fit our family perfectly. We had 12 people staying here, 7 adults and 5 children. It was a easy walk to the subway and only two stops till all of the sights of DC. Patrick was wonderful. Took us to the grocery store the first night and showed us where to get on and off the subway. I would highly recommend this location to anybody looking for a vacation home in DC.

Great Location Great House

Date of Stay: 01/11/11 Review Submitted: 01/30/11

7 - Weeks is a long time to be away from home, we stayed in many different styles of accommodation, some great and one very average place, unfortunately we only got to stay in this beautifully presented house for 4 nights, our party of 5 Adults and 4 Children were extremely comfortable. We found the house to be everything we wanted and more, some of the house features that made the difference for us included a basement area with TV and an entertainment system which kept the younger kids entertained and for the older kids and adults there was internet facilities with computer, printer and free wi fi. Even though the metro and uptown downtown tours are close we had a car which enabled us to travel anywhere in the DC area, the house also had a double garage out the back and to have off street undercover parking for our rather large Suburban was great and convenient. Patrick made us feel very welcome and was more than happy to help out in any way, this included a personalized introduction to the house on arrival, shoveling all the snow off the front and rear balcony and helping out with local attractions. All in all I would certainly recommend this house if you are planning to go to DC

Great Property with lots of room and extras

Date of Stay: 12/10/10 Review Submitted: 12/19/10

We recently stayed at this property for a family reunion and it was all I was hoping for and then some. We had 3 families plus one additional adult for a total of 9 people and we had plenty of space. Ages ranged from 77 to 11 and there were amenities that all enjoyed. As other reviewers have noted, the house is nicer than the pictures can show. The owners, Patrick and Cleo, were extremely helpful and pleasant to deal with. Some in our party were nervous that this area had a reputation that was less than desireable. All was forgotten once we got there. We found that the area surrounding the house was quite safe with lots of homes having been recently renovated. The walk to the Shaw/Howard University Metro stop includes some delapitated properties, but this was no different than you will find wallking around most major cities. One of our party drove down and it was nice to have a garage attached to the property, as the grocery store was a good distance away. Patrick was very accomodating and took us to the grocery store when we first got there to buy our supplies. Cleo even walked us to a local sandwich shop to make sure we didn't get lost. A great home with wonderful owners!

Everything as Described (and better)

Guest: In Town for Wedding (Chicago, IL/USA)
Date of Stay: 10/14/10 Review Submitted: 10/25/10

Large 3 level house - very clean, well kept. Pictures and descriptions are accurate in showing excellent condition of property – if anything, property is even nicer than can be captured in photographs. Upper level has 3 bedrooms including large beautiful master suite. Lower level has king bed, single day bed and sofa bed. The main level has sofa bed in parlor. There is a nice front porch, rear deck and small back yard, nice for the youngsters. (We did have nice weather.) Beautiful original woodwork adorns interior. 11 adults (3 couples, 5 singles – ages 21 through 65) and four small children slept comfortably. The house is well equipped with linens, dishes, glassware and silverware. Patrick (owner) even provided grocery bags so occupants won’t need to pay for bags at the super market. Computer with Internet in the house worked well – even had a good printer hooked up. Patrick gave us a very informative tour of property and neighborhood. He also drove us to the supermarket to get coffee, food, beverages, etc. Recommend you take Patrick’s offer to drive you to the market as the walk with bags of groceries would be a bit difficult for most. Patrick is a great host and takes justifiable pride in this property. We really enjoyed getting to know him. There is a two car garage which renters may use but we chose not to drive in the DC area. We took public transportation (metro ½ mile and bus 1/3 block) to Georgetown, National Mall, DuPont Circle, Friendship Heights and Arlington. We were in town for our daughter’s wedding so we took cabs to the wedding and airport (lots of luggage) – cabs were readily available with just a phone call – typically 20 minute lead time for cab. The neighborhood around the property is a beautiful historic district. All of us walked around the area a lot, sometimes pushing strollers with little ones. Lots of families and college students walking around – a very nice atmosphere. To west of 6th street toward Howard/Shaw metro station, there are a number of boarded up buildings awaiting rehab – but in walking to and from metro we never saw anything that gave us concern over safety. Obviously one must be alert when walking through city or suburb – but this area certainly felt as safe as any area we visited – very comfortable. This is a first class, large property in well kept old neighborhood owned by really nice, honest couple. We’d stay here again and recommend this residence to family and friends.

This place was perfect for our large group. We had 4 families staying here (13 ) and we did not feel crammed at all. The kids had their own space downstairs. Approximately 15 min walk to the subway that made sight seeing very convenient. Subways do not go to Georgetown but a convenient direct bus ride is only about 150 ft from the house. Patrick was the most accomodating host. He even picked us up at the Union Station and drove us to a grocery store when we arrived. Look no further if you are planning to visit Washington DC. Thanks Patrick

Okay, so I'm sure there are other skeptics out there like me thinking...this house seems too good to be true...Well, let me put your mind at ease. This is the perfect house! Reserve it now or you will be sorry. This house was my second find when I started searching...1 month, 4 websites, and 27 property inquiries later, I decided to reserve it. I still was concerned with the overall quality of the house, the surroundings and accessibility to attractions until I experienced it all first hand. The house was awesome. It’s large and has everything a large family or group would need. It would even be a perfect place for 2 families to share. We had my teenaged boys and parents along with us. Everyone had their own private space as well as space to hang out together in. All of the conveniences were there too. The biggest advantage to us was having a computer to check attractions that we wanted more info on and to access the metro trip planner for where we wanted to go each day. Another major thing that several places didn’t have that you do here is air conditioning. It was fantastic on those incredible hot humid days to come home to an air conditioned house. When we first got there Cleo, a real gem, greeted us. She gave us an overview of the house and showed us where everything was located that we may need along the way. Let me just tell you it’s breathtaking to see all of the history in the house. There are eclectic collections everywhere that I’m sure had a story behind them. There were also fresh flowers on the table by the gorgeous banister. Cleo allowed us time to unpack and then had us follow her to the grocery store. She gave us bags to use, her discount grocery shopping card and umbrellas because it was pouring rain. When we tried to leave our garage door wouldn’t open, she made a call to Patrick and it was fixed by the time we got home. Now, let’s talk about he neighborhood. I’m an over protective, freaky parent that’s cautious and observant. I scoped it out and felt very safe. We even walked back from the Metro at midnight after a nighttime tour. There are some areas that may not be as magnificent as our street, but some pockets of the LeDroit Park area is still under restoration. Lastly, this house is a short half-mile walk to the Metro, where you can get to anything. If you’re not a walker, the bus stop was only a few steps from the house.

This was the perfect house for us: big, perfectly furnished, very clean, very convenient (5 blks to the metro), Patrick (the owner) was very helpful and available when we had questions, the yard and deck are an added bonus. I have owned rental houses and am well aware of the potential problems. Even the kitchen in this house had plenty of dishes, glasses, flatware, a place for 4 to sit and eat. We had 12 people around the dining room table. I can't say enough nice things about this rental and would not hesitate to stay here again.

Patrick was a wonderful host. The property is a very clean, beautiful old house. Loved the character and charm. The back deck and barbeque were great for dinners at the house and letting the kids stretch their legs and play. The neighborhood was a great location. Do not have anything but good things to say about our experience. When we needed extra blankets, Patrick brought them right over. It was nice to have a washer and dryer on sight. A little walk to the metro station, but we walked it with 4 children and it wasn't a problem. It was GREAT having a 2 car garage and it even fit the 2 minivans in our group. It is even fairly close to a supermarket (only a few min. drive). Close to Ben's Chili Bowl!!! Yum!!! We had 12 people in our group and we fit just fine. Would recommend this house to anyone wanting to visit WA DC. Perfect.

This is a fun and charming house retaining its 1905 personality with creaking banister stairway and beautifully polished hardwood floors yet nicely remodeled with a modern kitchen, updated master bathroom, plumbing that works well throughout the house and a back deck and outdoor barbecue grill. It is clean and well maintained in a quiet neighborhood and the owner was there to show us through the house, answer questions and show us the Howard/Shaw metro stop about a 10 min walk away. Catch a bus to Georgetown 1/2 block away. We enjoyed the 2 car garage and also the bus and metro which took us to points of interest and the (DCA) airport. We would stay here again! This was so much more fun than 2 hotel rooms for our 7 girls family reunion!

My family and I (a total of 6) recently stayed at this house - Spring break 2010. The listing was accurate. The house is beautiful, well-maintained, absolutely clean, a pleasure. The owner, was gracious and helpful. The walk to the metro station took us through a more run-down area, but we did not feel unsafe. I would highly recommend staying here.

Owner response:The unrevovated aera mentioned in the comment is scheduled for block renovation . Construction is scheduled to begin this summer. The historic Howard theater will be redone as a supper jazz club.

Date of Stay: 08/30/09 Review Submitted: 09/07/09

This is a beautiful property, which I cannot recommend highly enough. We were 7 in our party, so were very comfortable spread over the 4 bedrooms. I think it would be crowded with 14 though. The house was clean and tidy and all the furnishings and equipment are of the highest quality. Patrick, the landlord, was very friendly and helpful. Although on one occassion we were warned at the metro that the area was not safe to walk around at night, we felt perfectly safe walking to and from the metro, though we did not do this late at night. It is a short metro ride to the centre of Washington. Highly recommend hiring bikes from Thomson boat and cycle hire as a way of seeing the main sights. Do not bother with the Double Decker bus tours - they do not run frequently or regularly, nor do they keep to their scheduled route and stops. A complete waste of money and a precious days sight-seeing.

Owner response:This is a very safe neighborhood from the Metro stops. The area is established as a historic district. I live in the area and I find it to be as safe as any location in DC. This is the only neighborhood that I would live in DC. I love it, it is quiet and friendly.

GS troop loved their home away from home!

Guest: Troop Momma (Hoosick Falls, NY)
Date of Stay: 08/13/09 Review Submitted: 08/24/09

Our troop had been planning and fundraising for our trip to DC for three years. When looking for a rental property this one seemed perfect for location, ease of access to metrorail, size, and our budget. The owners were amazing resources prior to our visit and answered tons of questions. But our stay far exceeded our expectations -- very comfortable sleeping/living space for six teenaged girls and three chaperone moms, ideal 'hanging-out' room with comfy couches and TV/DVD/stereo, computer for quick updates with friends at home and to do research on all the places we were going to visit, generosity of the owners to get us from/to Union Station and a grocery store, handy laundry facilities, and much more! This was a one-in-a-lifetime experience for us all! Only two requests would be to have more hanging options in bathrooms/adjoining rooms for wet towels and space for putting cosmetic bags, especially downstairs.

Owner response:We thank the troops for their review. We also enjoyed having them as guest, The suggestions that were made will be considered and that is how we plan to provide the very best service and comfort to all guest. This is how we can improve our home rental.

We recently has the pleasure of staying in this residence. It is centrally located in a very nice neighbourhood. The house is well furnished, spacious and comfortable. We had a pleasant stay at this property. Kids enjoyed the flat screen tv / cable. Property was clean and well maintained and owner stays right across and is very hospitable. He was very accommodating and helpful. The metro is around 6 blocks, if you have seniors with you it'll be quite a walk and maybe look into taking metro bus which is right round the corner. Garage parking is kinda tight for 2 cars but owner was very helpful in letting us park one car in his driveway. Overall good value for your money. I did not find a coffee shop close by if you love your early morning coffee you're better off making it in house

Owner response:There is two coffee shops near by(two blocks, First and Rhode Island ave, and a second coffee shop ,internet cafe on first and R St. NW. There is a corner store that sells hot coffee and variety food goods. Our goal is to have a home away from home for our clients. We appreciate your comments so that we may better serve all visitors.Thank you.

Beautiful house, fabulous stay. We were 4 adults and three children (all age 9-10) and had plenty of room. The house is extremely clean, very well stocked with kitchen supplies, linens, etc. Patrick, the owner, was very helpful and a great host. Pleasant neighborhood and easy to walk to metro, buses and a small organic grocery store just around the corner. Our final night we sat out on the back deck for hours enjoying a wonderful night after a long day at the mall. No hotel would have worked as well. I highly recommend this rental.

My family of four adults and two children thoroughly enjoyed our weeklong stay in this spacious, comfortable, beautifully furnished and well equipped home. The owners, Cleo and Patrick, live nearby and helped us settle in smoothly. We parked our rented minivan in the garage behind the house and used the subway to get around town most of the time. The Shaw/Howard METRO stop is less than ten minutes away, even when walking at a slow pace with children. I recommend the dark, quiet basement suite for light sleepers and late risers; the master suite, on the top floor, gets the early morning light and more aural action from the neighborhood.

Our family traveled to DC for National Police Week and we were very satisfied with our choice of where to stay. The only negative would be that two of the bedrooms were quite small, but as this is an older home, that should have been expected. The neighborhood was lovely, the location absolutely perfect with easy access to the Metro and all attractions. The owners were extremely hospitable and went above and beyond the call to take good care of us. I would recommend this home as an excellent value, and we found it to be very comfortable...great beds, baths, kitchen. Our stay was much enjoyed.

Owner response:It is our intentions to provide a excellent home for all visiting the nations capital. We want our guest to feel very comfortable, welcome and desired. Our bedroom sizes are 14X11 ft.with queen size bed. second bedroom 13x11 with queen size bed. Master suite 18x14 with king size bed and marble bathroom with stand up shower and jacuzzi tub. Lower level large master suite with king size bed and futon. Large sitting area, TV, and surround sound.

We stayed April 18th thru 25th We loved all the room to move around in. There were 5 adults but we didn't fill crowded at all. Patrick put a beautiful grill in so half our meals we cook out. It's nice because I cook Steaks and burgers and hotdogs. Great grill. Loved to that we have off street parking so it saved you hundreds of dollars for parking fees. Because most hotels charge at least $20.00 a day to park. Plus Patrick was excellent about getting our needs taking care of like driving while we follow to get to a large Grocery store. Plus the local grocery stores will deliver to the house. Every bedroom had there own tv so everybody could watch what they wanted at the end of the day. Having 3 and 1/2 baths was nice to. The beds were very comfortable and plenty of extra blankets. But the most important thing was the 3 women in our party was very confortable and thought it was very charming. I would Stay there again if we travel to dc again. thanks for agreat place to stay at.

Great Place to Stay

My extended family (9 people in all) and I stayed at this home for a week in mid April. We were very pleased with the property and felt we were getting a great value for the money. * The owner lives right across the street & was very accomodating & available without feeling too intrusive. * The property has a lot of space & it was great to feel like we could spread out. It is an older, renovated home so the flow of the rooms is not what you'd find in a typical, modern home. There are multiple, smaller rooms as opposed to less, large rooms. There are very nice, large tv's in all the bedrooms, but no tv in a living room. However, the home had a lot of character & charm and we appreciated the overall feel. * I agree with the previous reviewer that the basement should be reconfigured to put the bed in the back and to move all the couches to the front by the t.v. in order to create a media room feel. * The kitchen was well stocked. There were plenty of nice linens. Dishwashing soap, laundry supplies, maps & guidebooks were provided. * The house is a short walk to the metro (probably about 5 - 6 blocks). Although, we didn't take it, there is a bus stop just a few houses down. We drove to a nice grocery store that was just about a mile & a half away. We felt that we were conveniently located to everything we needed. * The only real problem we had was with the garage. Garage parking was definitely nice as I know a lot of rentals don't have that. We felt our cars were secure while in the garage. We had two cars that are both quite wide & low to the ground. Both cars fit in the garage, but with just inches to spare on each side. We had to load & unload passengers and luggage in the alley outside of the garage. The biggest problem though, was that our cars consistently scraped their undercarriages (in a big way) when going into the garage as there is a bit of an incline. I don't think this would have happened on vehicles a little higher off the ground, but for us it was significant as parking and pulling out became quite a hassle as we tried to eliminate damage to the engines. Again our cars sit really low. If you have a similar car, I'd suggest taking another vehicle if possible. * All in all we really enjoyed our stay. We had 3 families (including 3 very active children) and we had plenty of room. The house was clean & the owner very eager to make us happy. The price was extremely reasonable. We would definitely stay there again!

Owner response:It is our desire to have a great home away from home for all renters. We aim to please all. We like to meet and greet all renters upon arrival. For renters comfort we have a oversize rear deck and large propane barbecue grill. We will try to rearrange the bed in the basement.

Great Family Christmas

Our stay was fantastic. The house was clean, spacious and easily accomodated our family...ages 19 months to 86 years old. The owners were nice enough to even decorate and add a christmas tree much to our delight. It was close to the metro which we used the entire 10 days to get around DC. I have already forwarded the property to others interested in a DC vacation.

My sister and I and our families (total of 10) spent three lovely days in this house. It's conveniently located to main arteries into DC, both roadways and subways. The house is completely renovated, tastefully decorated, and yet comfortable and fully functional for families. The amenities are all in excellent working order, and each bedroom has multimedia equipment. For those who need to be connected, there is a computer with internet access available and the house is fully WiFi. We loved this house and would definitely book it again!

A Home Away from Home

We rented this property for the week of the presidential inauguration. It was very clean and very well stocked with amenities and supplies. The owner even provided a computer with internet access to make local searches & booking reservations easy. The house was well appointed with more than enough furniture and art. Provisions were provided for everything we needed for a week away. We simply drove to a nearby grocery store for food and then cooked at home(away). It was a great cost saving alternative to eating out every day for every meal. The owner lives close by so when a special request was made for a space heater, they brought one over right away. We had a wonderful time and would definately stay again with a large group. Some helpful suggestions for the owner would be to reconfigure the basement suite so that the bed is at the rear of the room. This would provide guests with a common space which has a television since there isnt one on the main level. It was an unusually chilly week in DC, and as Chicagoans, we were ok with it but, the space heater (or two) was definitely necessary in the basement during our stay. Lastly, I understand the cost of providing a printer might get out of hand but it would have been helpful for printing boarding passes, directions, etc. All in all, I would recommend this property for a large group of family or friends.
