Wondeful Condo, walk to the beach!Guest comment entered by manager
Wondeful Condo, walk to the beach!
This condo has been newly upgraded and was lovely. All upgrades were done tastefully and practically. We have small children and there was plenty of room for them to play and nothing really for them to break! We could walk to the pool, tennis courts and the beach. The closest beach was a little too rough for the kids, but we were close enough to Brennecke Beach that we could walk there in 10 mins (or drive with all of the beach gear in 2 mins). We were close to restaurants, as well, but the kitchen was well-equipped for cooking. This unit also has a great ocean view. There are beach/pool towels, as well as a washer/dryer. There are also some sand toys and 3 beach chairs, so you don't have to rent those. Do know that there is no air-conditioning, though! I just assumed that there was, but there is not. Apparently, not much on the island is air-conditioned (except the rooms at big resorts) and usually there are trade-winds that keep it pretty cool at night. But there were no winds while we were there and it could get hot (this is why I gave it only 4 stars on "comfort"). There are plenty of standing fans in the unit, as well as ceiling fans, so that helped. One last bit of advice: We had to check out by 10 am on our last day, but our flight wasn't until 8:40 pm that night. Often, if no one else is coming into the unit that day, you can pay $50 extra and stay until 6pm. Unfortunately, we didn't have that option because another group was arriving. But, we did pay for a day rate at the Grand Hyatt, which is the nicest hotel I've ever been to, with a great pool. For the price of the day rate, we got a room and use of all the facilities from 9am-6pm. We also went to dinner and to the luau there, which were both really nice. If you're in the same boat, I highly recommend it!

Great two week get-away on our 60th anniversary
The condo was very nice. The only thing that would be nice is the walk-in shower in the guest bathroom & also the Master bath tub could use had rails for safety. We both are 80 years old & found it very had to move around in them. The view was great. Weather was nice. had rainbows allmost every morning. Was easy getting around, thanks to my sister & brother-in-law which were in another unit about four blocks away. They had been there many times before. Everbody was really nice. We would like to go back again & stay in the same unit.Good location.

Nice week but a few problems.Guest comment entered by manager
Nice week but a few problems.
Location, furnishings, view, and scenery were excellent. We were disappointed though with the condition of the carpeting which had years of ground in dirt at the entrance and many ugly stains in the dining area. Also the key provided for the pool didn't work in the lock at the pool. Two lite bulbs were burned out over dining room table. The door to the left of washer/dryer was almost impossible to open.

Fantastic adventure!Guest comment entered by manager
We had a great time. The Nihi Kai condo and then later the beautiful villa of Kamali'i were very comfortable, fully stocked for basics of living, nicely furnished and great locations. We were relaxed and de-stressed in no time! We very much appreciated the support of a guide (Lou Johnson) from and to airport, and the baby kit with stroller/crib etc. We would definitely do this again.

Great Condo on Poipu
It was a lovely condo. Location was great. The view was beautiful. We had no problems. The only thing I would suggest is changing the lighting in the master bathroom. It was incredibly hot!

It was beautifully decorated, location was great
We loved this place. The only thing that could have made it better (for my husband) would have been air-conditioning. We really enjoyed having the choice of two lanais, front and back, to catch the wind wherever it was blowing. We never ate at the dining room table, always on the lanai. The view of the ocean and the sunset were perfect, and the walk down the path to the beach always made it feel like we were returning "home." The pool was a perfect size and kept at a nice temperature, not too warm. Staff was very friendly, as were most of the people on the island. Access to all South Shore beaches very convenient. Our condo was a two-bedroom, which was more than we needed, but it was nice to have two bathrooms. Would love to get friends to meet us there next time, since there's enough room to share and to share the expense. Having a complimentary rental car was great. Didn't know if we'd need one, but it was very nice to have for driving to the store and taking a trek around the island to the North Shore. Rental car person, Lou, was great to deal with, very friendly and accommodating. Maybe we shouldn't talk this little place up too much - it may not be available next time we return! The decor was very nice, loved the tropical fabrics and slatted doors for the rooms. We walked from the condo frequently to Brenneke's, where they had very reasonable deli sandwiches and ice cream. (Liked the deli better than the restaurant.) What did we like the best? The location and feel of the condo. Felt very personal, not like staying in one of the bigger-named "hotels/time shares." Would definitely return - hopefully for longer than a week.

Great views, great price. Close to everything!
This condo was perfect for us. We are 2 couples, all in our 30's, one couple from the West Coast and one from the East. We had a great time, used every inch of that condo and drove the car all over the island, and can't wait to come back. From the start, when Lou picked us up from the airport, everything was great. Lou loves the island and it was nice to have someone who really took an interest in making our experience a good one. Thanks Lou, you rule! Oh, and thanks for the heads up on how much Go! airlines sucks. It made missing our flight to the mainland due to the Go! pilot forgetting to put down the landing gear on our flight from LIH to PDX a little less of a surprise. Hooray for a 24 hour layover on Waikiki beach! The condo is great. It's a little outdated, and for a big-time cook like myself the kitchen is kind of disappointing (it would be nice if it had been stocked with some spices, oils, and sharp knives), but overall it was just great for our needs. We loved the island music for the CD player, and having a washer and dryer was key. The plumbing was crazy, but sort of endearing. There were a couple of things that went wrong, and GVR was quick to remedy the problems. I think anytime you have an older unit with high traffic things are bound to go wrong, and it's all in how it gets handled by the management company. So, good job GVR! One thing: GVR offers rental beach gear, and we rented chairs because they sent didn't list any in the unit. When we arrived we discovered that there were actually beach chairs in the unit. Then, we ended up not even using them all week, as it was just easier to bring towels with us down to Poipu beach and find open chairs at one of the many resorts lining the water (shhh, don't tell them). The cooler rental is a must, though, if you want to save money on food while you're there. We packed many a sandwich down to the beach, not to mention rum and cokes. A great vacation overall. We can't wait to go back.

About: Aloha~ Thank you for viewing my properties! My name is Amy Grant and I own a boutique vacation management company in Kauai called Great Vacation Retreats. I happily work and reside in Kauai and have been managing vacation rentals on the Garden Isle for almost 4 years. Been married to my husband, Scott, since 2003 and we have a beautiful little girl named Presley. When we aren't busy chasing her around, we enjoy going to the beach, cooking and traveling. I love working with my guests to find the perfect place for them to call home while on vacation. It can be overwhelming trying to pick out the right property -- I can help. My staff and I take great pride in the properties we manage and believe that we truly have some of the best properties the island has to offer. We have been in each property numerous times and stayed in most so that we can give you an accurate description of what each property's amenities are, distances to the beach, sightseeing, restaurants, etc. We can also help you with any activities you might be interested in while on island such as surfing lessons, private boat charters, guided hikes, stand up paddling, personal chef, childcare and much more! Mahalo for looking :)
Why Nihi Kai Villas:
My husband and I were married at Kee Beach on the North Shore and visited the island several times after. We used to manage vacation rentals in Lake Tahoe and many of the owners also owned property in Kauai and asked if we would be interested in starting a business here. After a couple of years, we finally made the move and have been blissfully happy ever since. The island has so much natural beauty and outdoor activities, yet it still doesn't have that 'big resort' feel. It is a great, safe place for children and also makes for a perfect honeymoon or anniversary destination.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
There are so many outdoor activities to enjoy here -- going to the beach, surfing, stand up paddling, horseback riding, hiking, sightseeing, taking a boat charter along the Napali Coast, kayaking, camping, biking, etc. I enjoy getting a spa treatment at the Anara Day Spa at the Hyatt. If you enjoy going to a spa, their facial is perfect. My husband and I met at culinary school and consider ourselves 'foodies'. We love the Kilauea Bakery for a great cup of coffee and the bialys (stuffed bagels) are amazing. Some other restaurants that we enjoy are Josselins, the Kalaheo Café, Postcards, Roy’s, Tip Top Café and Kauai Pasta just to name a few. There are some wonderful farmers markets here and fish markets (Hanalei Dolphin is the best) with their fresh local catches of the day. Ahi is, of course, an island favorite and can be found at many of the restaurants throughout the island. Whale watching is from December - March and is quite a sight to see. Some of the best golf courses in the US are located in Kauai. We work with some activity providers that provide personalized hikes and activities that are 'off the beaten path' and truly show you what Kauai has to offer.
