Unique Elevated Home, One Block to Everything.
- Minimum stay:7 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This unique elevated home, with large deck overlooks a beautiful garden but is within walking distance to downtown Bar Harbor with its many restaurants etc. It is also within a few yards of Bar Harbor's Shore Path and the Bus system which accesses the entire Island and Acadia National Park, its hiking trails and carriage paths. The house is kept meticulously clean and has a jacuzzi in one bathroom and a loft bed in one of the bedrooms. A large deck area is perfect for alfresco dining, sunning, stargazing or viewing the fireworks on the 4th of July. A dishwasher, gas stove, quiet refrigerator, washer and dryer make for easy vacation days. A wood burning stove creates a cozy atmosphere on a chilly Maine evening. It is bright and sunny but also a great place to catch up on some reading on a foggy day on the window seat in the loft bedroom. A television and DVD player are located in the living room and a CD player in the bedroom. WiFi Internet is present and an in-house phone for local or calling card calls. All linens are provided as well as a complete kitchen including a lobster pot and equipment. Outdoor grilling is available the old fashioned way with a real charcoal grill and a picnic basket for trips across the Island.

"We had a good time with our 2 years old. We had to watch him a little, but since he is not a climber, it was not overly difficult. He slept on the floor of the second bedroom. The 2 bedrooms are not directly connected. The house is surprisingly quiet since it is located just 4 houses from Main st. There are occasional fog horns (harbor!) and bikes, but most sounds are muffled by all the trees around the house, the shopping street noise is only a vague rumor. It is right downtown, but we rode our bike direclty from there, and it was also easy to get out of the city in car. We found all we needed (and much more), like a real house rather than a location. I recommend it and would go back!"Recommended for: Families with teenagers, tourists without a car.

We spent a week here and found it was lovely holiday home, close to everything, but a nice quiet location. Everything was within walking distance and Bar Harbour is a lovely place to visit, lots to see and do, would especially recommend Acadia National Park there is so much to see and the free shuttle bus is great. The house was very clean and well maintained and Gay & George were a very nice couple who respected our privacy but were on hand if needed. Would highly recommend this property to couples and we hope to return there one day ourselves. My husband and I honeymooned in Bar Harbor, and we rented this home to celebrate our 25th anniversary. This home is a hidden treasure! It is right in the heart of Bar Harbor, and all the shops. Its just a couple of miles from Acadia National Park. The house is very comfortable, and beautifully decorated. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook complete meals at home, which was a great money saver! The owners, George and Gay, live right next door. They were very kind, and wonderful hosts. Gay knows the area well, and answered all our email questions before our trip. We really enjoyed ourselves on this vacation, and would definately stay here again. We both highly recommend this house for adults and older children. The second floor loft bedroom is open, and would be dangerous for young children.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

My wife and 2 kids have come to Bar Harbor a couple times per year for the past 7 years and this was our 1st time at Raven's Nest (August 15 -22). Right away it felt like home and we were already planning next years trip back. Just off of the main street in town, we were able to park the car for most of the week and take advantage of the wonderful Island Explorer shuttle to most of our hiking destinations. Upon returning from our hikes, the kids loved picking blueberries, rasberries and wild strawberries just outside the door. Fabulous design details throughout the home, it was truly a dream home away from home.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

My wife, son, and I had a great week of vacation up in Bar Harbor and hiking in Acadia National Park. The house was a perfect setting as we were situated right in town but would not know it stepping out from the door of the house. Everything that you could possibly need was there and the fresh blueberries from the garden made for great blueberry muffins. The jacuzzi tub in the one bedroom was a great escape after a great day of hiking and walking in town. We can't wait for our hopeful return next year!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

What a perfect house. My family stayed the last week of June and into July. Our two daughters,12 & 9, loved the "bunk bed". They both said they felt like they were in a tree house. Every need was anticipated. The house was very clean, and fresh flowers were the perfect touch. We will be back and we will be staying here again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

My husband and I are currently finishing up our stay here, and just love it. It's a perfect size for a couple or a small family. The house is well designed, with many windows, allowing lots of sun in some rooms and lots of cool air (it's hot right now!) in other rooms. The jacuzzi was perfect on colder evenings and the kitchen had everything we needed for the nights we cooked at home. It's so close to downtown, yet so quiet, as it is a bit back from the main street. Special touches like fresh flowers and a book with menus, lists of hikes, etc. were appreciated. Really, the location couldn't be more perfect for us--we could walk to dinner, a movie, kayaking, shopping... We've stayed at different rentals throughout our travels, but this place is our favorite. I highly recommend this house.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

Everything about this rental was perfect. It's a unique property in an incredible location, just steps from Main Street, but nestled away in a quiet location. The house is also beautifully equipped. Once we unpacked we immediately felt right at home and never lacked for anything, even when my wife wanted to cook an elaborate meal - everything she needed was there including a JennAir stove. The owners were marvelous and took great care of us every step of the way. We'll be back as soon as we can get up there again. Thanks!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, girls getaway, tourists without a car.

My husband and I stayed in this adorable place 6-14 to 6-20. We really felt a home in it and loved the extra touches like the fresh cut flowers that were throughout the house. We put the kitchen to good use with making dinner 4 of the evenings. We enjoyed the location being in Bar Harbor where we could walk to shopping, restruants and activities. Some of our favorite activities were kayaking in Frenchman's Bay, walking out to Bar Island and the taking a walk on the shore path. After a day of doing different things we came back to the house and settled in with a fire going in the living room and a game of scrabble or a book. Great pace fro a couple and maybe a child or close friend.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

Year Purchased: 1996
About the owner: George and I built this house in 1996. It was a property adjacent to his restaurant GEORGE'S which operated next door from 1978 to 2005. It was sold in 2009 to friends who operate it as a summer rental also but will eventually retire there. George has lived on MDI since 1960 and was a high school teacher until 1988, teaching history, civics, psychology and drama during which time MDIHS won many awards for their plays. George has retired but is ever-busy: right now building a small house to live in next door to this rental. Gay arrived on MDI in 1975 and fell in love with the Island. She has worked in the school system, as a legal secretary, inn-keeper, cook and jacqueline of all trades. She met George and worked at his restaurant for 18 years. They started up a bakery and restaurant in 1989 together and operated until 1992. We love working together and can't seem to stop. The new house is our latest project along with our continuing updating and care of Ravensnest and our house in Florida. We love meeting all the people who come to our house and introducing them to the town and the Island which we love and call our home.
