Here’s a little “talk story” about our condo in the Maui Vista. We hope it will give you an accurate picture of our Maui home and help you make the best decision for your vacation. But first, I need to say something about the rate table. We start what VRBO calls a "monthly" rate at 22 nights, not 30 or 31. Please contact us for a quote.
Now that I've got that out of the way, here's information about our condo:
We recently had guests who split their Maui vacation between our condo and another in the Maui Vista complex. When our guests returned home, they wrote us to say that, even though the other unit had just been remodeled and everything was brand new, they wished that they had been able to spend their entire vacation in our unit. He wrote “There is something magical about your condo. We loved it! We were comfortable and relaxed and had everything we needed and then some. We will be back!”
That seems to sum it up pretty well.
This condo is a magical place. It has good vibes, I think because it seems to draw exceptionally wonderful guests who leave the imprint of their happy memories and love of the islands for everyone who follows.
We do take very good care of the condo and keep it updated. Here's what's new as of June 2014: we removed the popcorn ceiling - it looks so nice! We replaced the interior doors with raised six-panel ones and new hardware. We replaced the bedroom dresser and night stands (now we have night chests - more drawers for storage, helpful for guests who stay longer), and we bought a new living room air conditioner.
In addition to the June 2014 upgrades, in 2013 we added new tile flooring; a new vanity, vanity top, faucet, and towel bars; solid thermal pane windows that replaced the drafty louvered ones (and help keep the unit very quiet); and a new mattress, springs and bed (headboard and frame); and in 2012, replaced the carpet. We personally “visit” at least three times a year to restock and replace items that need replacing, clean the carpets and every little corner in the unit, touch up the paint, and organize cupboards and linens to our standards. (Some people think we are on vacation! Not so!)
As you can tell from the reviews, you will have every supply that we can think of; but I still need to tell you that the pillows are really good – and there are two down ones for those like me who use down pillows. You will also find an exceptionally clean condo; our managers send a re-inspector before each guest arrives to be certain that the housekeepers have done their usual outstanding job.
People do ask us why we keep our rates so reasonable. It's because we very much want you to have a wonderful vacation that doesn’t break your personal bank. We used to live on the mainland and struggled every vacation to find a balance between the money we spent and the value we received on our Maui vacations. We found that we were able to have a wonderful vacation and manage our resources if we prepared many of our own meals (we brought many of our own supplies and kitchen gadgets and consequently learned to supply this condo with those items) and stayed at condos where we didn’t have to pay $15 or $20 a night for parking. We became hooked on condo vacationing, especially in wonderful Kihei.
Other information you might want to know: We are located on the second floor of building one, unit 1225. It’s an end unit and consequently is a little larger than most one bedroom units and has air conditioners in the living room and the bedroom. We have both a hide-a-bed and a queen Aerobed, the two layer kind with a headboard. We have electronic locks, the combination of which is changed for each new guest. We don’t charge you a fee if you pay by credit card and we don’t charge a cleaning fee if you stay four nights or longer. We also don’t require that you purchase damage insurance because we have never had guests who have damaged the unit. The Maui Vista does not have a resort fee or a check in fee. We do have professional managers, Maui Condo and Home, 800-822-4409, available 24/7 to handle issues that you might have. (Hawaii law requires that we have an on-island representative and we live on the Big Island) Maui Condo also handles all financial transactions for us. They do charge a $40 booking fee to our guests.
Of course you have access to the pools, barbecues, and the tennis courts at the Maui Vista, and are just steps from Charlie Young Beach, one of the best beaches on the island. Just grab the beach chairs, the umbrella, beach towels and cooler and, in fewer than five minutes, you're on the beach!

We're Hawaii residents - we live in Keaau, Big Island, just south of Hilo Town. We moved here from the Seattle area (go Mariners!) a few years ago. Stafford is retired, or as retired as one can be when managing an acre of yard, fruit trees, and pineapples in Hawaii. Nancy works part time on a suicide prevention grant funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration through the Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii and occasionally teaches professional development classes (It feels like more than occasionally lately!).
We love Maui, it's our favorite vacation spot. We bought this condo to enjoy ourselves and to share with friends, ohana, and you.
