Ideal for short or long stay

Guest: P & D, (Kitchener, Canada)
Date of Stay: 03/13/12 Review Submitted: 04/07/12

Chez Grisette was an ideal apartment for our 3 week stay in Paris. The listing description does not adequately indicate how well-equipped the apartment and particularly the kitchen are - there is even an ice cream scoop! Bedding and towels are abundant and good quality. The apartment was clean, neat, bright and quite quiet on a calm street. Renata was quick to respond to inquiries, as was Krystyna, the on-site manager. We very much enjoyed observing the activity and social scene along the canal and at Le Carillon, the bar-cafe on the street corner. Try the local Laurette Theatre (across from the Carillon), whether you understand French or not. The director speaks English and is very friendly. We tried 3 of the local restaurants (all good but not cheap), the Sunday market, the bakeries and take-out places (a emporter) on the lively Rue du Faubourg du Temple, the Franprix and the Monoprix grocery stores. We walked up to the Parc de Belleville and the Butte Chaumont where locals spend a sunny Sunday. We used the Gare de l'Est metro station a lot and found useful buses there - the 31 and 32 particularly. If you are along the Seine near the Pont Neuf, catch bus 75 to come right back to Rue Alibert. We took the ParisCanal (www.pariscanal.com) cruise through the locks of the Canal St. Martin from the Parc de la Villette to the Musee d'Orsay. Reserve tickets on line for the Eiffel Tower for 90 minutes before sundown, then stay up top until after sundown and enjoy the sunset and wonderful view of city lights as they come on. After a day's outing, we enjoyed the DVDs available in the apartment and also checked Pariscope for concerts and theatre. We walked several times by different routes from Chez Grisette to the Right and Left Banks. Paris is a small city and there is no better way to discover it than on foot. Bon sejour!!!

Real Paris

Guest: londonmick (London)

Spent an excellent 3 days in early march at Chez Grisette. The flat is bijou, stylish impeccably neat and tidy with all mod cons. It was handy for us that it was a 15 minute bus ride from Paris Nord (buses every 15 mins). It's easy to get to the centre (via metro, République) for the usual tourist sites. More enjoyable was exploring the locality on foot; up a steepish hill to multicultural and bustling Belleville; a trip to the lovely and unusual park of Buttes- Chaumont; across the canal for trendy bars and shops. There's an amazing selectionof restaurants within five minutes walk. Not very cheap, but decent quality and friendly atmosphere. I've never felt less like a tourist!

Perfect pied a terre

Guest: Clare (Oxford, UK)
Date of Stay: 01/21/12 Review Submitted: 03/06/12

Be it skimming stones in the Canal St Martin à la Amélie or soaking up the atmosphere in the legendary Hôtel du Nord over a glass of vin rouge, this is a charming part of Paris to escape to. Chez Grisette is a perfect pied à terre, a haven from the hustle and bustle of the city, a first class home-from-home in a first class location. It is tastefully decorated and furnished and offers every comfort and amenity. A stay here gives you a glimpse of Parisian life away from the tourists but with all the hot spots just a short walk or metro ride away. We look forward to returning and have already recommended it to friends.

My husband and I stayed at Chez Grisette for a week Dec '11 / Jan '12 and loved every minute! The apartment was very clean and had everything we could need: a compact but very functional kitchen, a washer/dryer, a bathroom stocked with toiletries, an electrical outlet compatible with Canadian appliances, and many Paris guide books. We were very comfortable there and looked forward to going "home" at the end of each day!

At home in Paris

Guest: Matt (Chicago, IL USA)
Date of Stay: 09/20/11 Review Submitted: 11/30/11

A great apartment that feels like a home away from home. We stayed 8 days- and we're comfortable the entire time. It's centrally located in a safe and quiet neighborhood. Very near transportation, great restaurants, and amazing oulangerie pâtisseries. Spend an evening sipping wine by the canal... It's only two short blocks away. The apartment was impeccably clean and well stocked. The owner and support staff are kind, welcoming, and extremely helpful. We were blown away by their friendliness. Everything about the experience at Chez Grisette. Do yourself a favor, book your vacation here.

Owner response:Thank you so much - looking forward to welcoming you again Chez Grisette!

An ideally located, perfectly equipped and gorgeous flat. Fantastic welcome and we were escorted around and 'shown the ropes' by the lovely Tania, as well as provided with tonnes of useful information about Paris and its surrounds. Great amenities in the surrounding area, with endless supply of bars, restaurants, cafes and shops to mooch in. We had a fantastic stay and have already booked to go back early next year as we enjoyed it so much.

An excellent apartment in Paris

This is the third time we have stayed in Chez Grisette, so need one say more! It's lovely to live in a real French neighhourhood; the area has some excellent little resturants and there's a street market every Sunday so you can cook a meal from fresh produce in the well equiped kitchen. We have always been made welcome and it's a very comfortable apartment in easy reach of metro and bus routes.

Owner response:Thank to all my kind reviewers! Looking forward to welcoming you again

August Getaway

Guest: ABS (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
Date of Stay: 08/03/11 Review Submitted: 08/15/11

My husband and I stayed at Chez Grisette in early August. We had an incredible time and having a real home-base made our vacation even better! Chez Grisette is immaculate and adorable... the kitchen is better than mine at home! We loved living near the Canal St. Martin... although a couple of the neighbourhood restaurants were closed for vacation we managed to find all of the amenities we could have hoped for - all within walking distance. The proximity to the Metro made all of our sightseeing easy and it was extremely economical to be able to eat at least once a day chez nous. We recommend Chez Grisette to anyone... we will definitely be back!

Convenient, Clean, and most of all Charming!

My wife and I rented Chez Grisette for five nights in mid-July 2011. The in-city manager, Krystyna, provided great instructions on finding the apartment, it is in a charming neighborhood about 100 meters from the Canal St. Martin. Very cool neighborhood, authentically French, not overrun by tourists, yet still accessible to all Paris has to offer via bus and Metro within easy reach. All the comforts of home and all the makings of a nice romantic getaway place for couples. Lots of great eateries within a block or two, including La Marine, Chez Prune, La Cambodge and others. Perhaps the best bakery in Paris, Du Pain, is a short walk away just on the other side of the Canal. It's in a remarkably quiet neighborhood, although there is some street noise from a few restaurants below .... we found it charming, actually, and slept with the windows open most nights, but when we wanted quiet, closing the windows did the job. Apartment is well-equipped for all needs, with nice, modern appliances (oven, stove, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, WiFi), and is only one flight up, a big plus when you have luggage to carry up stairs. They also offer a telephone with free calling back to land lines in the US!!! We'd definitely go back again ....

My 2 sons and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The apartment was exactly as listed; spotlessly clean, immaculate kitchen and bathroom, quality linen and towels and a great location. Much appreciated the info on restaurants and getting around. The whole booking was handled efficiently and Krystyna gave us lots of help and information. Would not hesitate to stay again or recommend to friends. Tres bon! Merci beaucoup.

This is such a restful haven after a day sightseeing or just browsing around the picturesque sidestreets in this area. The flat is well designed with all you need in a compact space, also with tasteful decor. Lovely laid back locality, nearby typical cafe you can make your own 'local', plus restaurants which spring to life in the evening, or little supermarches, (you need venture no more than 5 mins) if you want to cook in the flat's well equipped kitchen. I thoroughly recommend!

For those of you who are reading all these positive comments to determine if this might be the place for you - you will no longer have to research any further. This 1st-rate flat is a dream- come-true. The location is ideal and the variety of local merchants and markets has everything you could possibly want or ask for. This flat was truly our favorite home-away-from-home. We will always come back to Chez Grisette.

My daughter and I loved our stay at Chez grisette! I agree with all of the positive comments, although we didn't stay in evenings! The area is so fun and feels like a real(non-touristy) part of Paris. I was delighted to discover it and the surrounding areas. We appreciated the modern conveniences and cleanliness of the apartment.

My husband and I recently returned from a wonderful, 9-day stay at Chez Grisette. The apartment is cozy, modern and well-designed. It's simply lovely. Located close to everything you need - a small market, restaurants and shopping - it's ideal for those who want to experience Paris like locals, away from the tourist traps. But there are 3 Metro stops within easy walking distance to take you anywhere in the city - and I'm pretty sure we rode every single Metro line. I would highly recommend a stay at Chez Grisette.

We are so glad we chose to stay at Chez Grisette. Super cute, clean and functional with every amenity considered and provided for. We were a family with a 13 year old girl and the size was just fine. The neighborhood is fun and casual with a youthful feel. Easy access to all the sites. Great choices for bars and restaurants, or (in the summer) simply having a picnic by the Canal. We loved walking over the bridge into the neighborhood after a day in the tourist areas...it felt like coming home to our own peaceful little oasis. Hope to return someday!!!

Although it can sleep four at pinch, this apartment is really intended for just a couple of guests at a time. I asked a guest who was staying with two teenagers for four nights whether she thought the apartment was big enough for a family of four rather than a couple. She replied: We had a wonderful stay at Chez Grisette! You've really thought of all the details to make things comfortable. We didn't find it too cramped with our girls --although they were pretty light with their luggage and I think luggage storage space would be the only issue if people were staying longer. The pull-out is certainly comfortable enough for adults. I guess, in reality, we didn't spend that much time in the apartment, either - we were packing a lot into our short visit, but I would think most visitors would be the same. She added We loved our little "Chez Grisette" and would recommend it to anyone looking for a perfect Paris experience. We very soon referred to it as "our place" and loved the neighbourhood around Rue Marie et Louise. We stayed with our 2 daughters, who also enjoyed getting to know the neighbourhood. The apartment is very well equipped - everything you need - all the modern conveniences in a beautiful old Parisian apartment building.

We had a great stay at Chez Grisette. Highly recommended! The photos don't even begin to do justice to how cute and perfect the flat is. A great neighborhood to be based in Paris. Everything in the flat worked and is brand new. Little details like the DVD's of exactly the movie you're in the mood to watch (Hotel du Nord, Amelie, La Vie en Rose) and a guide to the local restaurants were the icing on the cake.

This is a fine little nook to explore Paris from. My husband and I stayed here with our little baby (we brought our own portacot) for a week and we absolutely loved the location, and the fact that everything was provided, right down to teabags, books and DVDs including "Amelie" and "Hotel Du Nord" (both of which are important if you are staying in the very special Canal St Martin area). We found the apartment itself very convenient, sparklingly renovated (everything was new and the kitchen was especially well put together)and in general a great building to stay in; although it is central it is very quiet. And best of all it is on one of the most special streets in Canal St Martin, part of the very special 10th arrondisment. The place comes to life at night when the little restaurants along the street pull up their shutters and open for business. During the day it is pretty and peaceful - and a short walk to the Canal itself. Forget the left bank, the right bank is so much cooler, much more interesting and real. And quelle surprise... people are friendly! Also you can walk everywhere, to the Marais, Belleville's Vietnamese restaurants, the Pompidou, the left bank (if you must) and there are 2 metro stops very close (Goncourt and Republique). We also liked the cafe downstairs, "Zuzu's Petals" and the local tabac on the corner of Marie Et Louise, which turns into a cool bar at night, and a wonderful restaurant in Belleville called "Mon Oncle est un Vigneron" which has only 4 tables in a wine cellar. Bravo Chez Grisette!

Thoroughly recommended! The flat had everything we needed and was clean and comfortable. It is conveniently situated if travelling by Eurostar (10 - 15 min walk from Gard du Nord) and also for the metro. The canal provides a degree of tranquility and we spent a relaxed, enjoyable Saturday evening in a local restaurant and bar. We look forward to returning - hopefully for longer than a weekend!

This apartment is in a great location: it's very easy to get to all the main sights of Paris but you don't have to suffer the disadvantages of being on top of them in terms of crowds and tourist enclaves. Meanwhile you are staying in a genuine Paris neighbourhood in an authentic apartment building with excellent security. The immediate area is safe and inviting, with opportunities for a canalside walk or boat trip, browsing in specialist shops and trying out the cafes and restaurants that the Parisians use. The Hotel du Nord a few minutes from the apartment might be familiar from the classic film. The nearest high street for all your basic needs is Rue du Fanbourg du Temple (though the street market is excellent for food, this is where you'll find a chemist and a Monoprix) and from there it's easy to get to Belleville, which is a funky, arty neighbourhood. Exploring Belleville was the highlight of my recent trip, also the excellent Bouffes du Nord theate (in an old music hall with a lovely cafe-bar). Both were an easy trip from Chez Grisette and if I had been staying somewhere more central I think I might not have made it to see them. Inside, the apartment is spotless and stylish with plenty of room to relax in the sitting room after you have walked your feet off around Paris. If you don't want to go out every evening you will soon become addicted to lounging on the sofa with a book or a DVD, and the free wifi makes it easy to do any work you have had to bring with you, catch up with admin or make bookings for your trip.
