Family Friendly, Pet Friendly Beach Cottage

As you slide into the parking area, nestled in the sand under the cottage, the love affair begins. You can’t wait to curl your toes in the sand; thanks to the deeded access, just 25 steps from the house and you’re ON THE BEACH!
As you head back to check out the cottage, you note the secluded outside shower. When you walk in the front door upstairs, the light, spacious interior takes you aback. This is no cookie-cutter rental: With walls the blue-green of the Gulf and crisp white trim, the peace of the cottage engulfs you. Windows that flood the room with light offer breathtaking views.
You move into the kitchen, where a bottle of wine welcomes you. As you pop some potatoes in the convection oven, the gleaming granite countertops and wonderful equipment inspire you to do some awesome meals while you’re here.
The kids have already checked out the bedrooms and bathrooms, which offer the same beautiful décor. With original art throughout, the cottage already feels like home. The owners have thought of everything—a wire crate for the dog, puzzles and games for the kids, even a sippy cup and some cereal bowls, just in case you forgot something. With a washer and dryer and a generous supply of linens, the beautifully appointed bedrooms and baths promise exceptional comfort and ease.
After dinner, you watch a breathtaking sunset from the gazebo swing. Then you head back to the beach for a walk--how great to be just steps away! The wide, sandy beach is spectacular and on-leash dogs are welcome; you can’t wait to explore more tomorrow. And the neighborhood is amazing--no generic concrete structures, no crowds, no parking lots, no bright lights, no traffic, no noise. The stars are so clear you think you could touch them.
As you're lulled to sleep by the sound of the surf, you wonder why you only booked only ONE week. You decide to book for next year now, because this is definitely YOUR Fort Morgan house.

My family has been coming to Fort Morgan for 15years of the last 20. W e have stayed at Orange Beach,Gulf Shores, The Pantation, and finally settled on the Fort Morgan Area and a Beach house we usually rented through Meyers. This was the best we have ever stayed, the bottle of wine on dining table was a great welcome touch. There was a grill with charcoal and a charcoal lighter also two beach umbrellas and four beacch lounges. The interior was clean and fresh smelling and the linens were fresh and there were six pillowes on each bed. Great experience Thank You Jeanne and VRBO. The OlksRecommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thanks SO much, Michael! We're delighted you could be our guests and hope to welcome you to The Lighthouse again soon!

The Lighthouse is a perfect beach house for any family looking for a quiet and safe place to vacation. It is nicely maintained (especially considering the salty environment). The amenities met all our needs. More than plenty of towels, dishes, and pans so that you don't have to do the laundry or dishes every day (a true vacation!). We only went out to eat once. The view of the ocean from the teak table on the deck was magnificent and the setting for at least one meal daily! My sons loved the swing on the deck. The out door shower with hot water was great for getting the little guys cleaned up. The beach was clean, not crowded, and just across the street. We left our beach items there for the whole week and not a single item came up missing! At night families could be seen walking up and down the beach looking for sand crabs (totally fun and a must do with the kids). We caught mussels, hermit crabs, star fish and sand dollars. We saw dolphins right off the beach! The beach is shallow so it was great for me and my husband because we didn't have to be right next to the boys in the water. We alternated between full days as beach bums and days that we did things along with beach time. Waterville was a nice side trip. They have go-karts and miniature golf too. The USS Alabama and the Fort Morgan sites were fantastic things to do. The house and the setting were ideal and allowed us to have great family time . We didn't once turn on the television. We loved it so much that we are planning to return next summer for two weeks! Thanks Jeanne for being great to work with and allowing us to use you and your family's beautiful beach house. We have been spoiled! The other homes that have two or four family units just won't do. And the price is reasonable. Anyone looking for a quiet family oriented vacation with still plenty to do should look no further...the perfect place for the ideal vacation is here.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, families with young children.

The Lighthouse was a wonderful experience. We have 3 children under 6 and this house was perfect. The location is incredible with immediate, easy access to the beautiful white beach. We found the house to be in great shape, very clean, and well stocked for all of our needs. We brought groceries and ate nearly every meal at the house between trips to the beach. We went 4 days without ever cranking the car. Storage room in garage had beach umbrellas, sand toys, bicycles, and nearly everything we could possibly need. The gazebo and swing on the deck was very relaxing. Saw dolphins on several occasions. Would highly recommend this house!Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children.

Had a great week at the Light house. House was fully equipped with what you need. Only problem was the air went out on the 2nd day, but Steve came out on a Sunday night and got it going. Had a great time and hope to be back again for another escape. Thanks Jeanne.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

We loved staying at The Lighthouse! Owners were great to work with. It was very clean & well-maintained. It was decorated very nicely with excellent quality everything. Loved the beds, linens & towels! The outside shower was nice. They had just about everything you could think of in case you had forgotten something. I would definately recommend this property to anyone! Loved the privacy of a house & not having to worry if the kids were getting too loud. Several places to enjoy within the area. Alligator Alley was a big hit! As well as the Zoo. We drove to Pensacola to the Naval Aviation Museum & watched the Blue Angels practice. We also went to Mobile & toured the USS Alabama & USS Drum. We toured Ft. Morgan. Doc's Seafood is a great place to eat. Had an awesome time! Thanks for sharing your home with us!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

One of the most relaxing vacations we've had in a looong time! We enjoyed being away from the crowded beaches. The kitchen was extremely well stocked and the refrigerator with the ice crusher was most welcome .Ample supply of towels. Just a short walk across the street to the beach for our daily morning and evening walks. A wonderful swing on the front deck on which we enjoyed the welcoming wine. One of our favorite places to visit was Tacky Jacks just down the road less than three miles. We loved the oil platform that lit up so beautifully at night. What a sight. We most certainly will return!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners.
Owner response: Thanks so much, Ken and Barb! We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you again as our guests when you return next spring!

The house needs some work. The light on the fan in the back bedroom did not work. The ceiling fan made a lot of noise like it is worn out. A lot of the chairs and other beach stuff that was supposed to be available was either broken or in very bad condition. I would suggest that the owners spend some money to make some improvements to the house and the beach stuff. We did enjoy the swing under the gazebo. We spent many hours sitting in the swing watching people at the beach and the dolphins in the gulf. Thank you for a wonderful stay at Fort Morgan.Recommended for: Families with teenagers.
Owner response: If any guest finds a problem--such as a bulb that has burned out in a ceiling fan-they need only let us know and our maintenance man will attend to it immediately. We have just had that light bulb replaced and ensured that the ceiling fan in the master bedroom, which was recently replaced, functions properly and without noise. As we tell each guest, this guest was told that only 3-4 sand chairs were available. We just verified that those sand chairs are there, in working order. It is simply not possible to keep a larger supply on the property because, unfortunately, they disappear. Instead, to make our guests comfortable, we've invested in wonderful outdoor furniture on our porch and gazebo. This spring alone, we have added a solid teak table and 6 armchairs on the deck; 2 teak folding chairs and a new iron folding table in the gazebo; and we have completely refurbished the wonderful porch swing that so many of our guests enjoy. We note that we also attend to maintenance constantly, having just repainted much of the woodwork outside and conducted a complete maintenance check inside.

My husband has been very ill and this little three week respite was wonderful. Out of the way, yet close to everything. The beach was almost exclusively "ours" during the time we stayed there. The couple we rented from we very accomodating, the kitchen was well appointed, everything we needed was there including dish television with all the football games, good reading lights and probably one of the best considerations was the confidence we had in the people from whom we rented. They checked in with us, left a little "welcoming" gift on the table and made us feel very good about staying in their home. Very warm and very professional. We hope to be able to return in the future.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We have stayed at The Lighthouse many times mainly in May and October for five years now and love it. Its our home away from home with a beautiful view of the beach. We love it for its location( the dead end street) and the fact that our neighbors are all residents and all SO very kind. The house is very comfortable, clean, and we have always had everything we've needed. The owners are always available and friendly. I would recommend this house to anyone.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

About the owner: Jack and Jeanne are on faculty at Louisiana State University. We have a 10-year-old daughter, a corgi, and a rescue chiuaua--which is why our house is both kid- and pet-friendly. We've tried to make our house the kind of place we love to rent, with more the feel of a 'B&B' than a stock-issue condo.
Why the Owner Chose Homes, Single Family:
We bought The Lighthouse because Ft. Morgan represents a true treasure--one of the last 'beach frontiers.' The lack of development means that wildlife and birds remain, people are friendly, and when you walk on to the porch at night, it truly feels as if you could reach out and touch the stars.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We have tried hard to provide everything a family needs. We've provided a flat screen, HD TV with satellite, DVD players, an iPod dock, a gourmet kitchen, a Weber grill, teak table and chairs on the deck, and a wonderful swing (that swing was where our love affair with The Lighthouse began). We want our guests to feel at home. The fact that we're 25 steps from the beach means that you can feel connected to the beach and ocean and often watch pods of dolphins from the house. Beautiful sunsets and the peace and tranquility of Ft. Morgan await you here.
