Welcome to my cottage - enjoy fishing directly from the private yard
Location: Manawa, Central, Wisconsin, USA (1/2 Hour from Appleton, Outagamie Regional Airport) View Map
Accommodations: Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (Sleeps 4)
This private shore-line cottage from the 1960s is at the end of a quiet lane on the mill pond of the Little Wolf River about two miles from the center of Manawa in the rolling farmlands of Waupaca County.
There is fishing right off the private pier or from the boat: northern pike, perch, bass, bluegills, crappies, pumpkin fish and the occasional brown trout.
Two bedrooms with plenty of room in closets and dressers for your belongings, an orthopedic memory-foam queen bed & a new queen, hardwood flooring, a comfortable living-room with leather couches, new HD-TV, games, cards, and a fully-equipped kitchen with new appliances and a dining area will help to make you feel right at home.
Get away from the hustle and bustle for awhile. Bring your binoculars to watch the birds. Cardinals, king-fishers, woodpeckers, nuthatches and chickadees live here and so do sand-hill cranes, Canadian geese and squirrels. You can take the portable fire pit and the camping chairs into the yard, lounge in the hammocks (1 double, 1 single) or settle in at the campfire site close to the water. Have fun and see some of the open countryside on the twin 3-speed cruiser bikes. Bring your snowmobile in winter and use the miles of trails in the area; access them right at the pond. Watch the sun rise over the lake across the expansive level yard from the house and porch through the old-stand trees.
I am lucky to have a great care-taker who lives next door and watches over the house through all the seasons. This makes the cottage available for use all year 'round. He is a great fisherman who can swear by this private part of the pond as a fisherman's hideaway spot both summer and winter.

Map & Owner's Profile

Why the Owner Chose ManawaWhen my friend showed me the area where she was raised, I was smitten with the beautiful farms, woodlands and lake areas...but especially with the quaint little ranch-style cottage I found there on the quiet man-made lake called Manawa Mill Pond. The 1-plus acre yard around the house with old-stand trees provides it with plenty of privacy and peacefulness, especially because of the 400-yard lake-shore access. There is no traffic because it is at the end of a country cul-de-sac lane.
The Unique Benefits at this CottageHaving the cottage makes it convenient for my friend and her family to visit her family there. It also allows others to rent it and find out about the advantages of spending time in an absolutely quiet place away from home. I recently had the chance to visit the cottage and loved the feeling of security and seclusion. Bird-watching, fishing, some swimming and barbecuing, but also reading and painting here are the highlights. I have enjoyed the Mid-Western Rodeo in Manawa in July and have seen some of the old cars that are shown at the Iola Car Show. Green Bay is worth a trip for many reasons. The Wisconsin Dells, too. I furnished the cottage in 2005 from some of the local stores but especially from the antique shops in New London and Waupaca. For antique lovers there is also the big Osh Kosh show. Manawa is a convenient distance from the Outagamie Airport in Appleton and not a bad drive from Chicago, where I can enjoy the Windy City before taking off to Switzerland or California.
Owner's Map of Manawa
A fifth-generation California resident who lost her heart to Switzerland would not normally have a cottage in rural Wisconsin but this is special. I live in Chur, Switzerland, and see my family in California about once a year. I have visited Manawa quite a few times to see where my good friend grew up.

My husband and I, along with our pups, loved this place so much the first time we came, that we decided to visit it a second time. And we are so glad we did! This beautiful little cottage is so comfortable and peaceful, it was a perfect escape from the hustle of the city. We love the bird watching, the sunrises, the stars, and everything else about this perfect little place. Charlene and Jason are so accommodating and wonderful. There is no doubt that we will be back again! Thanks for everything!

We were at the cottage for the Symco Shakedown. It is a ever nice place Everything that you would want in a cottage plus more. It was like being at your own home. There are bikes & boat for you to enjoy The house is well maintained.I would recommend this place to everyone I know. Good places to eat, if you want to go out or eat at the cottage with the grills that are there

Me, my wife, 2 kids and a grandpa had a wonderful time at the cottage. Place was clean and perfect. Fishing was great despite the hot weather, caught some northern and largemouth right off the bank (would recommend using frogs as baits). I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a place to relax and unwind from busy life. Will definitely consider Manawa cottage for my next vacation destination.
Owner response:Dear Art Thank you so much for the review you submitted for my Manawa property! It is always a helpful thing to have reviews for future renters to read. It gives them the feeling that they are making a good choice when others have enjoyed the property. I was interested to see the specific advice about the use of bait. My cottage seems to be the right place for fishermen. We are sorry to say, though, that the DNR wants to make repairs on the dam and has plans to lower the water level for a year (dates still uncertain). This news did not seem to bother a renter who calls himself Fish Master. He says he caught some smallmouth bass below the dam. I look forward to being able to accommodate you and your family again sometime soon. Charlene

This property was clean and very well maintained. Wonderful yard and very nicely furnished cottage. The 400 yds of shoreline was excellent for fishing from the bank. We caught a variety of species of very healthy fish.
Owner response:How kind of you to have written a review! I am glad that you enjoyed the cottage and its amenities and I look forward to accommodating you on a return visit at a future date. Returnees get a reduced rate. Jay says that the bluegills are biting and Earl caught some small-mouth bass below the dam.

This cottage sits at the side of a small body of water that allows guests to see interesting wildlife and scenic views. The cottage itself is not terribly fancy, but it is extremely relaxing and has a good, calming energy. My partner and I have stayed there more than once because when we arrive we immediately forget about our busy work lives at the university. Our dogs love the back yard and morning walks through the neighborhood. It is a real "get away" both mentally and physically. We hope to return time and time again.

My husband, grown son and grandson age 10 and myself stayed here for a couple of nights during the Iola car show. It was very clean, comfortable and all the bedding and bath towels were in great shape. there is free wireless internet and our cell phones worked great from the house,so you can stay connected if you want The backyard is large and well groomed and flat. There is a small pier to fish from and she has a few fishing poles for your use...if your an avid fisher better bring your own. There was plenty of outdoor chairs for those nights after the car show to sit and watch the geese on the pond and a grill to cook your food on. I would reccommend this property to anyone who wants a quiet getaway. I
