This condo is truly a "Diamond in the Rough" I am from Puerto Rico, but its been years since I've had the opportunity to vacation there. Although the neighborhood is a poorer place, the people are all very nice and my family and I felt safe. The unit is very clean and in great condition, better than a hotel. With a family of 5 we were all very comfortable and felt right at home. Being right on the beach was fabulous, at times it was like having your own private island. The views from the balcony are "breath taking". We can't wait to plan our week for next year. Thank you Henry & Clara for sharing your place with us!!!! We really enjoyed our stay in this condo. It was clean and spacious. It also had everything we needed for the beach: cooler, beach chairs, towels, and boogie boards for the kids. The first day we were a little worried. The neighborhood looked very sketchy and the condo premises was locked up like a fortress. But by the end of the day, we realized that while the town was a poor town, it wasn't a dangerous town. This condo's location is ideal! We were very close to El Yunque National Forest. We loved the hike, especially Mima Falls. We were also close enough to old San Juan. Incidentally, the best Mofongo (local dish) we had was in Old San Juan in a restaurant called Barrachina (104 Fortaleza). It was really good here. We tried twice before locally and it was not. The highlights of our visit were two tours we did with Kayaking Puerto Rico. The first tour was the Bio Bay in Fajardo. The second was the snorkeling we did on Culebra Island. Kayaking Puerto Rico is a very well run tour group. The meeting place for both were not far from the condo. The beach right outside the condo is a little too rough to go in past your waist on most days and there is some washed up debris on the beach. But a short walk to the left of this beach is a really nice beach. Palm trees offer some shade, the sand is cleaned up daily for debris and the water is clean. We tried a few of the restaurants in the area. We had some good sandwiches from the Brass Cactus (not local food). The very best food we ate was at a little shack called Pasta Y Pueblo. They do not take reservations and only have about five tables. The wait was 45 minutes but well wort it. The Curry Shrimp over coconut rice was delicious. If you want authentic food you can go to the Kioskos in Luquillo. 60 kiosks selling take out food and some souvenirs and t-Shirts right on the beach. Amigos is the local grocery store (it is part of the Wal-mart family). There is also a movie theater and Walmart nearby. The hardest thing about driving in Puerto Rico are the lack of street name signage on the local roads. Ana, a neighbor, was very welcoming. The view from the beach side of the condo is lovely, especially at sunrise and sunset and the breeze was very refreshing all day.Owner response: Thank you so much for your thorough and well thought out review. You especially captured the essence of Puerto Rico and the town of Luquillo which can sometimes be hard to explain. If you like traveling to a foreign country (but not TOO foreign) Puerto Rico is the place to go! Please come again. Henry

This is our first time with Homeaway. At first I was a bit skeptical but after reading the review I felt much more at ease. The owner, Henry was very helpful, easy to contact by email or phone. We stayed for 2 weeks. The place was exactly as described, clean and the kitchen well equipped. Also, Ana (neighbor) was very helpful and nice. We liked to have her on the same floor. Luquillo has a great miles long beach, it was exciting to set the first steps on the sand, however after the heavy rains the river scatter debris and more in the sea. The town has little to offer, lots of feral cats,... But it's a great starting point for lots of adventures, we loved El Yunque, the tropical forest, bathing at the Mina falls is unforgettable fun, and walking the Big Tree trails exciting. We also enjoyed the Mini Boat Adventures tour - island hop and snorkel tour to nearby small islands with turqoise waters. Juan and Angel were excellent guides, very professional, 3 hrs of pure fun, the kids loved it, money well spent. Overall we recommend it, there were many things to do near by, and relaxing if one chooses to stay and walk along the beautiful beach.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Great condo. It has all that is advertised. Washer and dryer in the unit were a huge plus. Neighbor down the hall was awesome. We had a issue that she assisted with and was extremely helpful. Location is perfect. Downtown Luquillo may scare you a bit if you have never traveled to a Caribbean loaction, but I assure you that we interacted with tons of the locals and never felt in harms way. Great nearby drive to the Kiosks. Ay Bonita and El Jefe Burger were our favorites. Also frequented BoardRiders rum shack. Great place for a cold one after the beach. If Pasta Y Pueblo is open when you get there, GO!!!! It is not open often and looks a litte sketchy, but the owner Freddie and his wife are awesome and the food is fantastic. All in all a great trrip. I highly recommend this condo. It is cheaper to eat out at the local restaurants vs. buying at the local grocery. Do your homework before you go and you can find everything from Fried Plantains to succulant swordfishRecommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

I stayed here for a week with my two sisters and we had an amazing time. The condo is beautiful and well kept, and the view is to die for. The condo had everything that we needed to make ourselves at home and that we did. There were so many great things to do nearby (kayaking, atv-ing, beaches, restaurants, rainforest). It's also centrally located with about a 35 min drive to san juan, and about 20 min drive in the other direction to Fajardo. Much better than staying at a hotel. Can not wait to do this again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

I don't think I will ever stay in a hotel again! This apartment was just like the pictures, well maintain, clean, and so welcoming to our family. We had really bad weather which was just our bad luck. But the apartment was great. Even a faucet broke and I sent an e-mail in the morning and the plummer was there in the afternoon. You do need a car in order to get to all the great stuff around there. If you have time go to Hacienda Karabali, we rode horses in the outskirts of El Yuque (rainforest) for 1 hour, if you want to swim in the river you can take the a 2 hour ride. I will definetely consider renting this property again. Thank you Henry for making my travel plans and arrival so effortless!Recommended for: People with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

What a well kept home.I thought it was perfect and my in-laws came for a few days and were also very impressed. The only downfall is the key situation. With one to enter the main lobby you have to come and go together. We adjusted, and it was fine.I understand the importance of security. We felt safe and once you get used to the surrounding area it's fine.Security guards were very pleasant and helpful. We would love to stay here again next year.It was also great to have towels and beach gear here.My kids LOVED it!!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Thank you so much for your kind review. As we discussed before your visit, Luquillo, Puerto Rico, is the perfect place to go to really feel like you are in a foreign country but with enough USA familiarity to be very comfortable. I look forward to your next visit!

Everything you could need is either in the condo or nearby. Relax to the fabulous sounds of the ocean waves and wonderful breezes thru the home or watch thewildlife visible off the balcony and through most of the windows! Amazing to watch pelicans soar past at eye level! Or simply spend hours combing the beach in search of shells. Furnished and cared for as if it was a family's primary residence. Can not wait to go back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 7 night stay. The ocean view from the living room and balcony is spectacular as is the side view of the lush vegetation and lagoon. Great beach for walking. The bedrooms were spacious with plenty of closet space. Loved the kitchen. The appliances are high quality and we lacked nothing. The unit is air conditioned, but with the breezes from the trade winds, we never once had to use it. You do need a car to get to the restaurants and to the casinos. Dining places are many, varied and all seem reasonably priced for the excellent food available. There are no traffic jams even at rush hours. We were able to move about day and night. There are plenty stores, shops and shopping centers within a few minutes of your address. Modest prices everywhere we went. Enjoyed seeing the nearby rain forest, taking the ferry to the white-sand beach on Culebra Island. All very Caribbean and fun.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.
