The size of the cottage was great for our family of 3, and could have easily handled a 4th. The beds were comfortable and everything in good working order. We enjoyed the hot tub and patio, and made good use of the DVD player. We were especially pleased with the location. There are some good shops and restaurants within a very easy walking distance, and the beach is just steps away. The beach is so wide here that it is actually further from the edge of the beach to the water, than it is from the house to the edge of the beach. :) It was a bit cool out for swimming, but we enjoyed sitting in the sun with toes in the sand. And we enjoyed St. Augustine as much as ever -- we checked out the new Colonial Quarters that just opened in March, which we think will grow to be quite a nice family attraction. Also went to Ripley's this time, which I did not think I would enjoy a whole lot based on having been to the one in Gatlinburg a few times, but they had some impressive things here other than the usual creepy oddities. We would definitely stay in this cottage again. Be aware this is not a hardwood/granite/stainless steel house -- it is a comfortable home. I liked the terrazzo floors, and loved the decor! My only comment, the bathroom could use some TLC, but this house is definitely worth the very reasonable price. Thanks for a great vacation.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

spent Dec 15 to Jan 31, 2013 at Sunburst. Listing photos accurately reflect property. Owner was helpful in answering questions. Addressed washer maintenance issue immediately and problem fixed same day. Made special trip to cottage to try to repair cable that next door neighbor moving truck had snapped. The kitchen was more than amply furnished with pots, pans, dishes, glasses, silverware, utensils. There was nothing we needed to purchase to cook while we were there except food! Owner provides 2 bicycles as well as beach chairs. The garage is a real plus. Cottage is approx 2 minute easy walk to the beach. Location of property is super. Close to several great restaurants on beach blvd. Publix shopping center (with restaurants) is a couple miles up the road for grocieries. Florida room was a real plus for me as I set my office up there and being able to keep the office "separate" from the living area was a perfect arrangement. Can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay. Weather was PERFECT and so was the cottage. Thank you Michael. We hope to be able to return.Recommended for: People with disabilities, pet owners, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

We just came home from our second stay at Sunburst. Once again the owners have gone out of their way to make our stay a wonderfully restful and memorable one. Love the outdoor shower and our dogs love the terrazzo floors. This cottage is just a gem in a town that is a hidden jewel of the East Coast. There are great restaurants literally within walking distance (many people say that, but few deliver as well). We particularly like Mango Mango for island cuisine. We love this beach and this cottage and hope to make it our new home at the beach for our vacations.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Just finished my fourth stay at the Sunburst Cottage! My whole family (even our dog) loves the place. The owners are great and the house has everything you need. It is so close to the beach, great restaurants and we love the farmers market on Wednesdays. Being from the west coast, we really enjoy visiting the Atlantic. We started renting the house because my daughter attends Flagler College and this way we could all vacation together. Even though she graduates next year, I am confident we will continue to rent every year! Thanks, Michael, for another wonderful vacation!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks so much Laurie, you guys are the best. Michael

We fell in love with this cottage last summer...after our stay this June...we love it even more! It is so perfect for families with older adults or younger children. It is just so easy to get to the beautiful beach...less than a minute walk and only 2 or 3 stair steps! It was cooler this year and we were able to enjoy the private deck area. We also discovered that if it is hot on the deck...open the garage door for five minutes and it acts like a wind tunnel and clears the hot air out. The best restaurants and shopping are within 1/2 mile. We found the owner to be so helpful and attentive to making our stay perfect. He has added more to the kitchen and we didn't need a thing. The air conditioning was so efficient, the cottage cozy and still such a deal to be so close to the beach. I fear saying too many nice things...it is already booked solid all summer. If you vacation the third week in June...disregard all the things above! Thank you owners for always being on top of the constant wear ocean homes have...your home is a joy to live in! Thank you for sharing it with us!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: You are such a nice family. We were happy you stayed with us. Michael

Five of us stayed along with our 2dogs. The house is very clean and just steps from the beach. The neighborhood is quiet and not so busy beach which was great. The pier has things to do also, we attended live music concert and the farmers market. Everything is In walking distance, that was great. The private deck is wonderful,we only used the hot tub twice, just because of bad evening storms, this is a great addition to the deck. There is a grill also, but we were not home long enough to use it. The outdoor shower was great for our 3 boys who liked to bury In the sand. We would Recommend this house to others. It has beautiful beach sunrises and wonderful breezes. Morning walks on the beach are a must! St. Augustine outlet shopping is only 23 minutes away. Lots of attractions within five to ten minutes, very convienent to everything. The house was nicer than pictures showed.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks so much for the kind words.

This is a great beach house. House is clean and nicely decorated and looks much better in person than in the photos. The enclosed deck with hot tub was really nice. Easy beach access. Also has a garage which is great for parking your car out the sun and storing your beach gear. There are several good restaurants within walking distance. We really enjoyed our stay here and can’t wait to go back.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My family spent Thanksgiving week here with my 4 yr old golden retriever. It was a great week for all of us. The dog was dry very few days, everyone was able to surf and I got to sit on the beach and enjoy the sun and a good book The beach is close enough that carrying the boards ect isn't a hassle. It was also great to get in the hot tub afterwards. The owners were more than accommodating with our reservations. Only negative was the kitchen needs a little more such as a hand mixer, some plasticware for leftovers and more serving bowls ect. These were all VERY minor. Location is great for shops, restaurants and not to far to St Augustine Outlets for Black Fri shopping. I even found a heated outdoor 25 meter pool for lap swimming 10 min away. Thanks for such a great week!Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed here the week AFTER July 4th in 2011. My family had a wonderful time at this property. The location is not oceanfront but is steps from the beach. The property was clean and well maintained, The owner met us there upon arrival and was able to provide us with some local information regarding dining options etc. We liked the fact that there was plenty of space within the home, since it is an older home we thought that the rooms may have been small but that was not the case. This property is in an ideal location. Having an enclosed garage was also nice so we could drag all of our beach chairs, etc in and not worry about them setting outside the door. The street this house is on is very quiet and little if any traffic. The property was as described and the pictures were accurate...if I were to add any info to the listing it would be that this is as close as you get to being oceanfront with out actulally facing the ocean. The only things I didn't like was that there is a 3 story home next door and at the time we stayed here our full glass patio doors did not have any blinds, etc on them so at night I had to hang bed sheets over them so the house next door didn't have a full view in the living room. I also would have liked the doors to have had a little better security as far as the locks, the prior guest didn't return the keys so more had to be made. Maybe an electronic lock with codes would be a better choice for property that is rented on a regular basis-or at least I would have been more comfortable knowing there wasn't extra keys out there somewhere. Overall, we had a great time, the owner was great to work with and we would recommend this property. We hope to get back this summer!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for the review. I am always looking for ways to make Sunburst Cottage better. I wish you had complained about your discomfort about the keys. I would have put your mind at ease. All the doors have deadbolts. I take my security very seriously and I do not allow keys to float around. The people before you (who I know very well) forgot to hand in one of the keys and they put it in the mail to me the next day. If keys are lost I change the locks. Also some people use the outside hurricane shutters on the east side glass doors at night for greater privacy at night. All the windows have blinds. I will put that in my house instructions for future guests. Come back and see us again.

About the owner: This was originally our family home. When we moved to a larger home we kept it as a rental since it is so close to the beach. Four years ago we converted it to a short term vacation rental. We own three gift shops in Saint Augustine so having a Vacation rental is a good fit for us since we are have been in the Tourism business for 30 years. We enjoy sharing our knowledge and experience of the area with our guests.
