We thoroughly enjoyed the property and the house. It was more than adequate to house our four family units in the spacious bedrooms, living rooms and kitchen. The directions for finding the place were excellent - and a must to follow. GPS would never tell you to "turn left at the goats", but you need to know that! I recommend arriving before dark, as the final driveway is long and narrow and you need to know where you are going on that first trip. What a blessing to have a washer and dryer, complete with detergent after we did some hiking and got our jeans muddy. My granddaughters loved the stream and little waterfall, the sandy beach and the little goats.Probably there should be a warning that the internet can be spotty in these remote mountains, but it was good to be disconnected for part of our stay while they worked on it! It was nice to find a few basic supplies (sugar, jam, condiments) in addition to the promised breakfast items. The generous touch of member cards to Ingles grocery store was much appreciated - don't shop until you stop at the house and pick those up! It was puzzling that the pot was missing from the coffee maker, but it was our fault that we didn't ask about that when the owners were available. We were there in connection with a destination wedding at Hawkesdene House, and I would definitely stay there again if another nephew/niece marries in the vicinity! In fact, we might go back again just for the enjoyment of the space and the beautiful mountains. Another couple of weeks further into spring and we could have enjoyed the mountain rhododendrons in bloom, but the moss covering the roadsides were amazing.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, families with young children.

Everything was just like pictures on web. Host was very accommodating. Grandsons had a great time as did our two dogs. Found a really nice store in town and went horseback riding close by. A fun and relaxing vacation. Garbage was handled a little differently than we expected but we did adjust. Would recommend to all. Return trip very possible.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers.

A wonderful time we had for 5 days as guests of the Swarts. Can't say enough about the accomodations and the owners'a caring ways. We would recommend the the GPS say the road was Cross Creek but it really is Healy Fields Rd at the Airport then turns into Cross Creek eventually turning into TomahawkRecommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners.

Every year my friends and I get together for a summer trip. There were 6 adults plus 2 kids under the age of 2. The property was perfect. April (property owner) was very nice and left us alone after checking on us the very first day. We really had the run of the property and enjoyed walking a lot. There are plenty of gravel and paved roads within the community and we rarely encountered vehicles. When we did encounter vehicles, everyone was very friendly and polite. We fell in love with the donkeys, goats, and dogs on the property that we'd visit on our walks! I was very impressed with the thought that went into the house amenities. They provided all linens, soap, laundry detergent, and even shampoo. We were also amazed that they provided bug spray for us (which you will definitely need). The fire pit was wonderful. We enjoyed making smores and they provided all of the necessary equipment including a starter log. The house was very clean and comfortable. I definitely recommend this place to anyone seeking some solitude and wanting to connect with the great outdoors. We didn't leave the property much, but we do recommend that you eat at Shoebooties restaurant in Murphy, NC and stay far far far away from Doyle's restaurant also in Murphy.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway.

Family of four making our first visit to the far west of NC. Cabin is remote in a good way, getting there is a unique joy down a one way road through laurels. The pictures reflect this well maintained cottage well....no surprises!! The hosts are lovely folks and we felt right at home on their property. The kitchen was well equipped for making meals and a gas grill is provided. Andrews NC and surrounding area is gorgeous but getting anywhere is a bit of a ride so we availed ourselves of making most of our meals. NOC is nearby for rafting activities and there is much to see that is wondrous in the wilds of NC. The only downside is that you have to spend a bit of time to get to things. Still that was not detract from the quality of vacation we enjoyed in this great cottage. We especially enjoyed the shelties (we have one ourselves) and my son became totally smitten with Emma (the female sheltie). Were we to be looking to return to the far west of NC I would definitely rent Wicklow again. Thanks for the great stay!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Every other year mothers and daughters have decided to meet for an enjoyable quiet weekend together. Wicklow Cottage, in Andrews provided just what we were looking for. Several came from Atlanta, Savannah, Kentucky, Ohio and NC. The serenity of the woods, was a welcome change to the city. One remarked on the beautiful tree that are very much in abundance. The Sargents did not spare anything to ensure that we had everything we needed. They checked with us several times to be sure all was going well. This was greatly appreciated. We enjoyed sitting around the firepit, several fed the donkeys, and all took advantage of the trip to the Calaboose Winery. To add even greater enjoyment, we went tubing in nearby Bryson, NC. All in all, the weekend was much too short. There was still lots we wished we could have done. Already we are discussing how to get our spouses to join us in a weeks stay so they too can experience what the ladies did.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

I specifically chose this rental because of the extremely positive ratings/comments that others have given. I won't go on and on about Robin & April (Only because everyone else already has, and their comments are "spot on".) The property was amazing. There is plenty of room for you, your children and pets if you have them. The cottage is VERY clean, VERY nice, and they do a nice job of supplying it with whatever you need. The complimentary breakfast items are a real treat- and the extra towels intended for "whatever" were great. They think of everything, right down to the chocolates on the bed- my kids loved them! All amenities were in working order. We enjoyed fishing in the pond, visiting with the donkey and goats, and exploring the area. Our family took advantage of the recreational park in Andrews for frisbee golf, skateboard ramps and their community pool. What a beautiful and scenic vacation spot. We also visited Joyce Kilmer Park, The Woods in the Fields, and NOC for ziplines, and high ropes. We also found some beautiful hiking trails. Couldn't have asked for a better vacation- or better hosts. Thanks so much!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We came to town for my cousin's wedding at the Hawkesdene House and fell in love with Wicklow Woods! Robin and April were gracious hosts, going above and beyond to make our stay memorable! The directions were clear and even after a 17 hour drive, we had no problems finding our way to the cottage. The cottage was clean, warm, and inviting. The complimentary breakfast items were a wonderful touch for us as we were exhausted when we arrived and the kiddos wanted a snack:). There was plenty of activities available in the area, but we so enjoyed just hanging out together in front of the firepit, roasting marshmallows and making smores:) The kiddos LOVED the donkeys! Us girls did enjoy a quick visit to the local Calaboose Winery:) The property is gorgeous! We couldn't have asked for a better long weekend getaway! Thank you so much! We are already thinking of a reason to come back!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

About the owner: I am software sales business person, a licensed Realtor and long time boy scouter / volunteer. I have 5 children, aged 23 to 3. My wife and I love the mountains and the out of doors. I have been experiencing this area for my entire life and created many memories for our children to have and cherish. We currently have 3 donkeys (new baby donkey) , 2 shelties (Mason and Emma) and 2 new miniature goats.
Why the Owner Chose Andrews:
I purchased this property because it reminded me of Wicklow Ireland. The beautiful mountain backdrop, green gently rolling pasture and water. Water everywhere, streams, springs, branches and ponds. It fit my vision of a private retreat. It is located at the end of the road. At night its dark, very dark. The sky is bright with stars. Many at night we observe shooting stars. Our backyard is 10,000 acres of National forest service land. This is our bit of heaven and we thoroughly enjoy sharing and hosting this experience with others!
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Wicklow Woods is perfectly located for all kinds of activities. On the property we have a wonderfully large fire pit to sit around and enjoy. There are several ponds stocked with fish. We have horse shoe pits and plenty of room to play and run around in the well groomed pasture area. Kids love playing in the mountain stream that flows across Wicklow. Many people take leisurely walks and everyone takes time and visits with the miniature donkeys. Near by there are numerous beautiful walking trails, including the Joyce Kelmer National Forest , which is the last standing virgin forest . There are many rivers and waterfalls within the county that have nice scenic walks. Additionally there are on road or off road Bicycle riding paths. The 'dragons tail' is nationally known for its driving (cars or motorcycles). Our area is known for its world class trout fishing.
