Exceptional Stay!

Guest: Megan (Troy, Texas)
Date of Stay: 05/10/12 Review Submitted: 05/15/12

We came to town for my cousin's wedding at the Hawkesdene House and fell in love with Wicklow Woods! Robin and April were gracious hosts, going above and beyond to make our stay memorable! The directions were clear and even after a 17 hour drive, we had no problems finding our way to the cottage. The cottage was clean, warm, and inviting. The complimentary breakfast items were a wonderful touch for us as we were exhausted when we arrived and the kiddos wanted a snack:). There was plenty of activities available in the area, but we so enjoyed just hanging out together in front of the firepit, roasting marshmallows and making smores:) The kiddos LOVED the donkeys! Us girls did enjoy a quick visit to the local Calaboose Winery:) The property is gorgeous! We couldn't have asked for a better long weekend getaway! Thank you so much! We are already thinking of a reason to come back!

Mom 60th Birthday

Guest: Teri (MD)
Date of Stay: 04/13/12 Review Submitted: 04/19/12

For my mothers 60th birthday we decided to all get together. My sister-in-law found Wicklow Cottage. It was a 9 hour trip for my mother and a little further for me but upon arrival it was well worth the trip. The road was narrow getting in but once you break out of the trees a feeling of inviting calm. It was all such a beautiful setting. Cottage was very spacious and had EVERYTHING you would need. View was beautiful. We spent most of our time outside...sitting on the deck or around the fire pit, fishing in the ponds, playing horse shoes and cornhole, making friends with the donkeys, visiting with the amazing owners who live just accross the brook/creek. At night we sat around the fire listening to the crackling flames and the frogs/toads call eachother and the sky was sooo clear. We never left the property except for one beer run. :) The town is quaint and very few things open on Sunday night. Local pizza sports bar was open Sunday night and we stopped in for a beer and some food (was good). I had the most relaxing time! Next time we all bring our bikes for "Tail of the Dragon". I can't say enough about the owners, they were great!!! Thanks and we will see you again soon!!!!

Easter Family Mini Vacation

Guest: Pat (Brookfield, WI)
Date of Stay: 04/05/12 Review Submitted: 04/10/12

Robin and April(owners) went out of their way to make our family feel like their family with suggestions on areas to see and things to do. The accomodations were great for our family of 10, adults and kids; clean and very comfortable. Our grand kids just loved the donkeys which were on the property. We all enjoyed the ponds for fishing and and the hiking that can be done just outside the cottage. Lastly, the firepits for nitely campfires made a great end to the day. Already looking forward to next year .....

Christmas 2011

Guest: Dawn (Auburndale, FL)
Date of Stay: 12/22/11 Review Submitted: 12/30/11

Wicklow was a beautiful place to stay over Christmas. We loved the decorations, host and the peaceful surrounding. Everything we could think of was supplied and we felt at home. This would be a wonderful place for two families to share. There was a master and queen room upstairs and down, not to mention two living rooms. We shared the cabin with my parents and we had plenty of space and the kids were able to watch cartoons on one tv while the adults enjoyed a movie together downstairs. The area is beautiful. We enjoyed all the different towns around Andrew and you couldn't ask for a more peaceful and beautiful town than Andrews. I loved seeing the mountains surrounding the town. My family and I would recommend Wicklow to anyone looking to get away!

I just loved this cottage!!! We were there during the fall and the leaves were breathtaking!! It's very secluded and peaceful!! We enjoyed the wildlife which included feeding the donkeys. I have a 3 year old boy who loved the huge yard right infront of the cottage. We could sit by the fire pit and watch him play with his ball. There is also a pond where my son caught his first fish!!! The cottage itself is very clean and is beautifully furnished and well organized. This was our second year there and had just as much fun as the first one. Close by is a national forest with huge trees!! Great hiking is just a beautiful drive across the mountain. My husband rides motorcycles and brought his this time. The mountains offer great riding for bikers. The dragon tail is just one of them!! Great family destination!!! This will be a place our family will visit again!!

A Winner!

This is our family's second time staying at the Wicklow Cottage in Andrews, N.C. The first time we stayed, we were stunned at the beauty and peaceful surroundings. This visit was just as wonderful! Being nestled away from the world, the cottage has everything you could possibly want! From watching the sun rise early in the morning with a hot cup of joe to sitting around the fire pit watching the moon rise! Our grandson had a ball visiting with the donkeys and fishing in the pond! Robin, you have a winner here and we thank you for your hospitality and being such a great host! Our family gives this home away from home a 12 thumbs up!!!! See you next year!

Mountain Motorcycle Trip

Guest: Kenny (Middleburg, FL in NE Florida)
Date of Stay: 10/06/11 Review Submitted: 10/13/11

Our group stayed at the Wicklow Cottage for just 2 nights the first week end in October 2011. The leaves werer just starting to change to their fall colors. We were really only there for one day. The cottage was gorgeous and very well maitained! We were a group of 7, mostly family. Our trip was for motorcycling on the Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway. The cottage and grounds were as beautiful as the mountains. The bed arrangements were magnificent and much better than many of the ir competitors. (No one in our group had any desire to climb into a bunk bed.) We had the oppurtunity to meet the owners and were treated like old friends, not guests or patrons. If you need a place to get away, I, we, would definitely and highly recommend making the Wicklow Cottage your destination.

Motorcylce Group Loved It!

Guest: Bobbie (Locust Grove, GA)
Date of Stay: 10/06/11 Review Submitted: 10/11/11

Wicklow Cottage is fantastic! My family members and friends shared the home of 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, and two living room areas. It was great, away from the hustle and bustle and near everything. It was very clean, very comfortable and amply equipped with every comfort of home. The two king and two queen beds made it perfect for our group of 7 adults. We even had room to park our bikes in a garage. We loved the huge fire pit area where we sat in the evenings and sipped our beverage of choice. Huge yard for kids to play in and a horse shoe area. The owners are great host and we could not of asked for a more pleasant stay anywhere. We rode over a couple mountains, The Dragon's Tail, and The Cherohala. This was a great trip and we will definetly be back to Wicklow Cottage.

AMAZING property

Date of Stay: 08/04/11 Review Submitted: 10/16/11

We enjoyed a fantastic stay at Wicklow Cottage this past summer. The house is well kept, clean, and comfortably fit two families (4 active kids ages 9-14)...the property is awesome- plenty of room for the kids to run and roam safely. Loved the donkeys and the streams. Great location- easy drives to adventures on the Nantahala, Lake Hiawassee, Highlands, and other great day trip experiences. The fire pit was a great way to end the day and the property owners could not be more hospitable. We loved our stay and hope to return again.

Enjoy the "ahhhhhh" moments of life and be treated as an honored guest!!

Guest: Holly (Punta Gorda, FL)
Date of Stay: 07/04/11 Review Submitted: 01/06/12

Our family of 2 adults and 4 children spent our summer vacation of almost 3 weeks at Wicklow Woods this past July. We were all completely impressed and thrilled by our experience there. First of all, April, Robin and their children all took us in and treated us as though we were family. What warm and wonderful people! The "cottage" (more like a large home to be truthful) was very comfortable and clean. They have made this a place that people will enjoy the "ahhhhhhh" moments of life. Beautiful and pleasant both inside and out! You will absolutely not be disappointed by the home itself nor by Robin and April's response to any need that arises (such as when my car broke down and Robin took me to his recommended repair shop, made certain that I was treated very well by them, and then drove me back to the cottage while I waited for my car to be finished.....nor when my stepson was stung by a bee and they rushed in to help him, get him insect bite medication and then provide games for him to play indoors...) In short, Robin and April truly do go the extra mile, both in providing a wonderful and thoughtfully appointed getaway home, as well as in treating you as an HONORED GUEST, not a customer! Our children still talk about this vacation constantly! In fact they wanted pictures of the owners' dogs hung in their rooms -- so we have Emma and Mason's wagging little selves in a picture frame! NEARBY ACTIVITIES : We went on many wonderful day trips while there: Ruby Falls (breathtakingly beautiful) and Rock City, The Lost Sea Village and Underground Lake in TN, Dahlonega Gold Mine Tour (very fun and educational for adults and kids), Ocanalufte Cherokee Reservation and Village (my husbands favorite), Gem Mining and Fun Factory in Franklin, The Site of the Trail of Tears (Tatham Gap Road in Andrews) where the Cherokee had to travel to evacuate their lands, Cades Cove historic pioneer town, Hiked to Waterfalls and found wild blackberries, The Bear Sanctuary in Cherokee where we fed a baby grizzly by bottle Calaboose Winery We tend to "go" alot, but truthfully we were just as happy and content staying at the cottage, playing board games, making campfires, hiking in the woods out back, playing outdoor games in the large yard, sitting on the adirondak chairs with our morning coffee - breathing in clean mountain air with a complete sense of peace. I would recommend the experience of Wicklow Woods to anyone :) Thank you April, Robin and clan!

Christmas Vacation

Guest: St. Nick (Sarasota, Florida)
Date of Stay: 12/24/10 Review Submitted: 03/09/11

This place had me at “Hello”. The view of the cabin left me speechless. Coming from Florida at Christmas time, we were very impressed by the mountain views & beauty. We arrived late in the morning & had no trouble finding the cabin. The cabin was wonderfully decorated with mountain décor & to our surprise the lovely Christmas decorations & fully lit tree. Each room had lights & ornaments which made the cabin a winter wonderland. We spent 4 relaxing days here & enjoyed every moment. There was so much space for our family of 4 inside the cabin & outside on their huge property. We enjoyed our hikes, BBQ, rocking chairs, feeding the donkeys, sledding, marshmallow roasts, days with nature surprises & the tranquility. I couldn’t wait for the sun to come up every morning, so I could sit on the porch with my coffee & be in awe of the beauty of God’s work. Our boys (4 & 6) had the best time in this little slice of heaven. We all had fun watching TV (Direct TV) & DVDs at night by the fireplace. The beds are pillow top soft yet overall firm. Robin & his family were very accommodating & easy to communicate with. The cabin is perfectly located in the middle of Andrews & Murphy, so everything you need is close but secluded away were you feel you’re on the side on a mountain without the long drive time to get to it all. I would highly recommend this perfect hideaway to anyone of any age. We had traveled around the world & stayed at many different hotels, cabins and B&Bs but this one by far was the cleanest, neatest, nicest, and most wonderful place we have ever stayed. It was like we were at home. Thank you Robin for sharing your cabin with us & we hope to see you in years to come. p.s Loved the chocolates left on the pillows!

Mini Family Reunion

Guest: Savannah Family (Savannah, GA)
Date of Stay: 11/24/10 Review Submitted: 12/27/10

I was part of the mini family reunion described by "Northern Mom" (Cincinnati, OH). This was a fabulous home and location for the southern branch of the family as well! The scenic drive to the house set the tone for the rest of our visit. We felt secluded, but were only about 10 minutes away from downtown Andrews, 20 minutes from Murphy, so were able to enjoy both towns easily. The fire pit was a highlight for me and my family. We enjoy staying warm on the cool evenings, chatting and listening to the distant coyotes. I work for a 4-diamond hotel and am picky about where I sleep! This house was spottless, well kept, and included so many little extras and amenities that we felt beyond pampered. I almost didn't want to write a review to keep this place our secret! We will be back at the first opportunity!

Our family enjoyed our stay at Wicklow a lot. It was a quiet, relaxing, environment. We were very pleased with the cottage and it's amenities. Everything was clean and orderly and functioned well. Enjoyed golf at Cherokee Hills, The Dragon's Tail, and mostly the hike in Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest. Robin and his family were very hospitable.

My family of 9 was cozy and comfortable in this gem of a cottage. With plenty of room and two seperate living spaces as well as multi level deck our large group had a very plesant stay. We visited Wicklow the second week in August 2010. Robin was very generous and helpful with finding local attractions and places to eat. Our vacation was both exciting and relaxing. We ****highly**** reccomend this cottage and also visiting tubing on Deep Creek in Bryson City, a short drive from the cottage.

What a wonderful place - a "diamond in the rough". The hospitality shown us by the owners was great! Our family enjoyed the beautiful setting and the cottage is furnished nicely and feels just like home. It is a wonderful location for outdoor activities, such as kayaking, canoeing, and whitewater rafting. We will recommend it to friends and plan to return.

We had the privilege of staying at the Wicklow Cottage during Christmas of 2008. The cottage is clean, cozy and beautifully furnished with plenty of room for a large family. The owners Robin and April are friendly and hospitable, they were so kind as to decorate the cottage for the holiday. The grounds of the cottage are spacious and provided plenty of area for us to relax, explore, hike, fish, and play. The children enjoyed visitng and feeding the donkeys and playing with the dogs Mason and Emma. We recommend this cottage to everyone looking for a great place to stay and relax. We look forward to returning in the summertime. David and Jennifer

First, let me say that Robin and April are the best! We felt like we were staying with old friends and not strangers. We had the cabin rented for two weeks and at the highest point had 9 people staying there with no chance of running out of room. The kitchen was great and loaded with everything you would need to cook anything. Plenty of space for the vehicles and trailers. Loved the quietness around and leading up to the cabin. When you sit outside you do NOT hear freeway noise or the neighbors like in the city. The setup of the cabin was perfect, from the food already there when you arrive to the owners manuals for the TV's and other items left in the cabin. Even the rooms were large and inviting with nice beds and bedding. The split level design of the cabin was awesome with two ways to get into it. AC and Heat can be controled for each level independently of the other which helps keep the warm and cold natured people happy. We are planning on a trip to this area each year and will be returning to this cabin to hang out with Robin and April in the near future. Thanks for making our vacation perfect.

Not only was our vacation one of the most memorable that we have had in recent years, it was also the most enjoyable. Robin and April's wonderful hospitality and graciousness was like spending the day with friends and they went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was the best that it could be. The furnishings and cottage were incredible and the fact that it was also pet friendly just added to the attraction. The woodlands surrounding the cottage was so peaceful and the private drive was the perfect place for my husband to take his morning jogs. We enjoyed fishing in the pond and of course loved feeding the donkeys. (Just ask my 3 year old) Overall, I would recommend Wicklow Cottage to anyone. It is easily accessible for young and old and we are looking forward to our return visit next spring. Thank you so much Robin and April for giving us the much needed relaxation that we all needed! The Georges
