Chimney Canyon Estate is a beautiful custom home of Idaho pine logs with large rooms and vaulted ceilings. The decor features design furniture with Western/Native original art creating the unique ambiance of this beautiful estate. A rock fireplace graces the center of the living room.
The 2800 sq.ft. home is located on three and one-half acres of private property on the edge of Chimney Canyon above Piedmont Valley. It borders federal forest providing immediate access to hiking, hunting, and other mountain sports activities. Its location offers a private and unobstructed view of the canyon and the surrounding Black Hills which can be enjoyed through the inside picture windows or from a lounge chair on the ten-foot deep, wraparound deck. Ponderosa Pine, a dominant feature of the Hills, surround the home and property. Frequent visitors include abundant white-tail deer and turkey.
The estate was built only six years ago and includes all the comforts and amenities of the modern home. The large family room downstairs also converts easily into additional sleeping for four. The home is located one mile from Interstate 90 and equal distance from Rapid City and Sturgis, South Dakota, home of the famous Motorcycle Classic and Rally. The home sits on Chimney Canyon and overlooks it to the west. To the east it overlooks Piedmont Butte, the sight of Custer's exit from the Black Hills over a century ago.
This location makes it the "best of both worlds," providing easy access to the shopping and fine dining of Rapid City and a quick entree into the Black Hills mountain playground, including Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, Needles Highway, Historic Deadwood and the famous Passion Play in Spearfish, South Dakota.
Also, this home is loaded with amenities... check them out including digital TV & Music, high-speed internet, and music piped into the rooms. Ladies especially seem to enjoy time in the jetted tub with "Romanza", or some other favorite piece, piped into the bathroom.
If you are looking for a private, convenient, comfortable, and beautiful place to stay during your time in the Black Hills, Chimney Canyon Estate could very well be the place for you.

We LOVED the decor, the scenery, the anemities. It all blended for a perfect place to return to at the end of each day. Our one week in the black hills was fast-paced to be able to see and experience all that the area has to offer. Returning to the Chimney Canyon Estate at the end of each day to relax and take in the beauty was the crowning touch to each adventure. Thanks Michael, for sharing your home with our family. It was a treat to relax and regroup there. Also, close enough to the freeway, yet far enough away to forget it even existed. Truely a delight to stay here for the week.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers.
Owner response: John & Mary, So glad you had a great time at my home and in the Black Hills.... I knew you would. They are certainly beautiful aren't they? If your travel brings you back this way again, I would love to have you in my home once more. Thanks for choosing Chimney Canyon Estate for your stay.

We recently stayed in this home for a month...enjoying every minute! We were looking for a place to escape the Summer South Texas heat...and we found it. It is quiet, secluded, yet close to so many area attractions, including Deadwood, Mt. Rushmore, Spearfish Canyon, Custer State Park, etc....even a day trip into Wyoming and/or Montana...to view the scenery such as Devil's Tower and wildlife. The home is comfortable, with attractive decor to fit the area. We enjoyed feeding the wildlife off the balcony...esp. the deer and turkeys. Our only disappointment...it didn't get QUITE cold enough to use the fireplace...as we left in mid-September. Fall colors were beginning to be beautiful before we left. Spearfish Canyon is a MUST SEE Property was clean and well maintained. We would definitely stay in this home again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

My family stayed at Chimney Canyon Estate for 4 nights in June/July of 2010. This home was perfect for our vacation with our 2 young boys. Everything was clean, comfortable and inviting after a long day of traveling/sightseeing. I want all of our friends and relatives to go to the hills and stay here. I truly cannot say enough good things and only hope Michael is still renting his home when we return to the Black Hills in the future.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thanks, Heidi, for taking time to offer your comments about your stay. I am so pleased it worked out so well for your family, and especially your 2 boys. If your travels take you to the Black Hills once again, I would be delighted to have you stay at my home. Michael

Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. It is a great base location for visiting all of the Black Hills attractions. We are frequent visitors to the region and the house is a great alternative to renting multiple hotel rooms. The owner and local representative are very nice to deal with and provided great dining suggestions. Thanks again. Looking forward to a future visit.Owner response: Hi Matt, I am so glad you had a great time at Chimney Canyon Estate. So many others find my home to be centrally located with easy access to so many attractions in the Black Hills of South Dakota. I am pleased, too, that my restaurant suggestions worked well for you and your party. I hope to host you again if your travel brings you back to our beautiful part of the world. Sincerely, Michael

We had a great time in South Dakota while staying at your restful home! Thank you for sharing it with us. It certainly allowed for a unique way to enjoy the Black Hills away from the tourists!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Thank you for sharing your wonderful home. My Dad (77 years old) and I had a wonderful time seeing the sights from the Badlands to Devils's Tower and everything in between. This log home is the BEST Place to come home to after a long day on the road. You and this home have helped to make my Dad's dream come true. Thank you! PS.. Elk Creek Steakhouse (just down the road, next exit East) is a great place to eat... the steaks melt in your mouth! And going shopping? -- go to Hill City v.s. Keystone... much nicer shops. And don't miss the "Christmas Store" outside of Hill City right next to the winery on Highway 16!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Michael, what a wonderful home you have. It seems every window has another spectacular view. We love the history of the West and your Native American decor fits nicely. We enjoyed our 3 days and hate to leave. Hopefully we can do this again after finding this "home away from home".Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We have had an enjoyable stay at your home in South Dakota. The scenery is breathtaking. The Deer & Turkeys were up close. Even the rabbits said "hello" every morning. For the most part the weather was great... only one rainy evening. The sunsets were spectacular! We came out for the Sturgis Rally and got to see a lot of this Beautiful State. This has been a wonderful vacation! PS.. the driveway is a little tricky on a bike.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us. We had a great time here. The turkeys & rabbits seemed to greet us each morning & evening while were here. We even got to enjoy the deer and a beautiful red fox. South Dakota is a truly enchanting place. The Black Hills are gorgeous and we had a great time everywhere we went. For new visitors, see the Buffalo at Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore is a site but you need to visit Crazy Horse Monument. The Badlands are beautiful and don't miss the archeological digs in Hot Springs (Mammoth Hot Springs). There is so much to see and do here, too much to mention. Oh yeah, go to Devil's tower in Wyoming... it was awesome! If yo like Indian art, to to Prairie Edge in Rapid City... it is truly wonderful. This house is so enjoyable, thank you again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a wonderful stay at CCE! It felt like we were staying at the home of a friend, who cleared some space in the closet, dresser drawers, and bathroom for us. The house is very comfortable, and the views from the huge, wrapround deck are wonderful. What a lovely place to enjoy a glass of wine at the end of the day! And we SO enjoyed seeing the 3 "resident" deer every day! The jetted AND heated tub in the upstairs bathroom is a great place to relax too, especially with some lovely music piped in!(Ladies: bring your bath pillow; I was glad to have mine.) The home's location is perfect for exploring the Black Hills area. It's so close to I-90 that it's very easy to get around. The longest trips we took were to Devil's Tower, Wyoming & the Mammoth site in Hot Springs; both were just 90 minutes from CCE. We wouldn't hesitate to stay at CCE again, if we're fortunate enough to return to the beautiful Black Hills someday. Enjoy!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
