Our rustic one bedroom cottage is perched on a cliff overlooking the horseshoe shaped port. Lounge on the porch in the evenings enjoying Sirtaki music rising from a popular taverna in the town. Wake to the sounds of roosters and donkeys. There are no cars or scooters on this quaint island known for attracting and inspiring artists.
What makes Hydra unique in Greece is the fact that it has escaped modern development. There are no high rise apartment buildings, condominium developments, or large hotels. Instead you find numerous cafes lining the port with comfortable wicker armchairs. Sitting under enormous canvas awnings right next to the water and sipping a Greek coffee, glass of chilled wine, or an ouzo is a pleasant way to pass the time. For a more active day, enjoy a hike up to the monastery or a scenic walk to one of the local beaches.
Hydra has a long history of attracting prominent artists, writers and other creative people. Among those with homes on the island are the Canadian poet and songwriter Leonard Cohen and the painters Michel Le Goff, Jannis Kounelis, and Brice Marden to name a few. As a result of over five decades of intense foreign cultural input into this island, there are now regular art exhibitions held in small galleries and you will also find groups of watercolor enthusiasts painting on the sidewalk. Greek artists and patrons have followed suit and several of Greece's most recognized living artists and collectors have now made Hydra their home.

Owner was especially helpful and willing to answer all questions. The view from the cottage is absolutely amazing. The entire experience was very relaxing. I would definitely recommend staying at this home and we are seriously considering a return trip. The caretaker did an excellent job meeting us on arrival and showing us the way to the house. She was extremely knowledgeable about the island and offered us several suggestions for food and entertainment. I would strongly suggest dinner reservations at Leo and Patricia's taverna. Leo is an excellent cook and they are wonderful hosts. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire trip.
Recommended for:Girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

This was absolutely a wonderful place! The owner was very helpful and the cottage was so charming it was easy to relax and become part of the island! Getting there was part of the charm and adventure. Hydra is charming and everyone so nice! I can't say anything bad about the whole trip!!
