We had a great experience at Fernhaven! Christine is an excellent host who has added lots of little personal touches in the cabin and outdoor nook. An excellent compromise between roughing it and still having a cozy space to come back to with a soft bed.

Fernhaven Cottage was an ideal location for one of our 50th wedding anniversary celebrations this year: warm and welcoming, peaceful and relaxing, comfortable and refreshing-a perfect place to spend 5 days in this beautiful corner of God's creation. We had been coming to the east side of the Olympic National Park for several years enjoying the scenic wonders of this area in an isolated forest service cabin so we had many special memories from our previous experiences. Our 5 days at Fernhaven Cottage have provided us with many more wonderful memories centered around this charming cottage that is so close to so many exciting activities. In fact, we were so impressed with the many attractions around Fernhaven Cottage that our 5 days went by much too quickly! After each day of adventures we were renewed for the following day in our cozy cottage and its tranquil surroundings. We were blessed with good weather but our stay was a delight each day whether it was sunny, cloudy, or-more commonly-a combination of the two with some rain to keep Fernhaven pleasantly green! Thank you Christine for making our visit to Fernhaven Cottage a remarkable collection of great memories and enriching experiences!

Owner response: This was my pleasure to have you both as my guests...I'm happy you enjoyed and appreciated Fernhaven...."my little haven away from home....my beloved Switzerland!"....Thanks for being such gracious guests! Come back anytime! :)

My Husband and I absoutley loved our time spent at Fernhaven. Not only was Christine a nice and lovely person to visit with, but you could tell that she puts so much love and energy into this beautiful piece of property. We couldn't have asked for a better place to rest our weary bones after sea kayaking and mountain biking. When I first booked this place I was a little hesitant to see that the bathroom/shower are in her home, but after seeing how private it was I had no concerns. The farm animals. fire pit, and pond were an added bonus that I wish we could have spent more time taking advantage of. We can't wait to return and spend our days here soaking up the peacefulness, solidatrity, and quiteness.

Owner response: You are welcome back anytime. Until then take good care of yourselves. I look forward to seeing you again.

My wife, 2 year old daughter and i also stayed in the cabin at Fernhaven. We had such a delightful time, and so appreciated our hosts hospitality. She helped to make sure it was a good experience for our daughter, who loved the animals and especially fetching fresh eggs in the morning for breakfast. The atmosphere was so peaceful and we regretted not being able to stay longer. The cottage is so close to so many parks/attractions on the peninsula it serves as a fantastic homebase for any family looking to explore the Olympic Peninsula.

We were looking for a great place to stay on the northern Olympic peninsula on a budget, and we found it at Fernhaven Cottage. The location is ideal for anyone who wants to hike along Hurricane Ridge and/or from the Sol Duc or Lake Crescent lodges. Christine is a wonderful and gracious host: welcoming; attentive to guests' needs without being intrusive; and helpful in answering questions about vacation travel in the region, from hiking trails to grocery stores. We enjoyed cooking and dining al fresco, especially when the meal included fresh eggs courtesy of the resident chickens. Soaking in the hot tub under the stars is the perfect way to end the day. Wish we were there now!

Owner response: Thanks for your kind words, Susan. Wish you were here too...Enjoy the end of the Summer...and think of coming back! Christine

....a testimony of my experience at Fernhaven. Staying in Fernhaven provided an opportunity for me to engage in the three R's....rest, relax, and reflect. From signs on the walls encouraging me to leave my worries at the door, and to relax, I did just that. What is it about leaving your own comfort zone, that enables a person to gain a new perspective of their life, to feel grateful for the many blessings in life, and to see that even trials are sometimes blessings in disguise? I am very thankful for the opportunity to add Port Angeles and Fernhaven to my life's journey. I am in awe of the beauty of the Olympic National Park, the coziness of Fernhaven cottage, and the generosity of my friend. You have created such a beautiful, and awe-inspiring environment. You made your dream come true, often with your own two hands. Dreams really do come true. Thank you, Christine

Although the cottage is small and the shower/toilet are a short walk away, Fernhaven is such a lovely and peaceful retreat that I'd happily book another stay or two. Christine is a wonderful host and her animals are sweet, friendly characters. The property is very well-maintained, and it's obvious that Christine pays close attention to details. Although Fernhaven offers basic but adequate cooking facilities, my friend and I decided to bring back Thai food from Sabai Thai in Port Angeles. I highly recommend it. Great food under the heat lamp in the covered area and then a dip in the hot tub!

We had such a perfect stay at Christine's Fernhaven Cottage. She has created something so special. From the moment we pulled up, we knew it would be wonderful. The cottage has everything you need but with so much charm. Although the main house (where your private bathroom facilities are) is steps away, there was no privacy lacking. The covered outdoor patio and hottub gave this peninsula spot island flair, while the animals gave it the farm charm. The location is perfect, an easy drive into Port Angeles, and to all points of the national park. Our 2-night stay was too short and we'll have to return to take advantage of the firepit, pond, morning coffee sitting in the rocking chairs, and "chicken therapy".

Owner response: Yes, "chicken therapy" (which basically is taking the time to watch how Fernhaven chicken behave) is in vogue now...There is lot to learn from them! Come back soon when the weather warms up! This was my pleasure to get to know you better! Christine

Fernhaven was an ideal homebase for our weekend on the Olympic Peninsula. Immediately upon arrival, all three of us were amazed by the comfort and convenience of the cabins and grounds. After some great tidepooling at the very nearby Salt Springs State Park, we returned to Fernhaven to enjoy an easily prepared dinner made on the outdoor cooking facility and a wonderful campfire around the fire pit. Afterwards, we soaked in the hot tub for hours; chatting, watching the starry sky, shooting stars, and the peaceful croaking of frogs. The next day, after enjoying some of the nearby natural beauty (Salt Springs State Park, Olymipic National Park, The Elwah River, beautiful pastoral fields, Crescent Lake, and much more) we took time to enjoy all Fernhaven had to offer including its lake, zip chord line, tree house, chickens, goat (Vincent), sheep, lush fields, and coastal forest. We also went clamming at Pillar Point (only about 30 min from Fernhaven) where we were wildly successful (we each met our permit quota of 40 clams in about 1 hr) and then returned to fernhaven to cook up some of our bounty with garlic, butter, and white wine. Although we had grandiose plans to explore the Peninsula that weekend, we found ourselves spending more tome at the cabin just becuase of its comfort and beauty- it truely is just a great place to relax and enjoy. Also, Christine, the owner, is wonderful and always happy to chat but is also extremely respectful of guest's privacy. In fact, both nights we stayed up late into the night, enjoying wine and the stars, and not once did we wake her up or need to be told to stay quiet. I would HIGHLY recommend a stay at Fernhaven to anyone who is looking for a genuine Olympic Peninsula experience. It is convenient and close to Port Angeles but enough off the beaten path to enjoy nature and solitude. Thanks Christine for the amazing weekend!

Went here for a ladies weekend with 2 friends in mid April, 2011. We are all in our mid twenties. We had a fantastic time! Christine was a friendly and welcoming host and we had a great time cooking on the coleman stove and watching the chickens. We spent the days driving to Port Angeles, the Salt Creek tidepooling area, checking out the Elwha Dam removal project, and had great success clamming down the road. In the evenings we relaxed around the fire pit and of course enjoyed the hot tub. About to go back for a romantic weekend with my boyfriend this weekend!

My wife and I and our 9 year-old son stayed here for a few days over Easter weekend. The property is really amazing. It's back in the woods with plenty of open space and forrest to explore. The owner is very welcoming. She has goats, and chickens on the property (fresh eggs!). She also has a nice hot tub. The cabin is very comfortable. Our son had a lot of fun playing in the treehouse. Highly recommended for a quiet getaway.

All of your animals really help to make this a country retreat! Thank you for the delicious eggs, soothing hottub (after running the Mountain Marathon in Capitol State Forest yesterday and before playing on the 9 mile loop at Ozette Lake) as well as warm hospitality.

Upon arrival we were greeted by sheep, goat and chickens. The private acreage has plenty of room to play with our three dogs after traveling from Portland to Port Angeles. The Fernhaven is off the beaten path, about 10-15 minutes to Port Angeles. The sheltered outdoor kitchenette feels like camping. Comfortable bed with plenty of blankets. Very clean, intimate cottage with relaxed and informal atmosphere. A private bathroom and shower, small refrigerator, in the main house with its own separate entrance. Delicious breakfast and great conversation with host. Hope to stay again.

Let yourself enjoy peace, quiet and solitude at Fernhaven Cottage. Although only minutes from Port Angeles, you really feel as though you're miles away from civilization - and can immerse yourself in the lush, natural world of the Olympic Peninsula. The grounds of Fernhaven Cottage are beautifully maintained and fun to explore. Be sure to give the goat and sheep some grass or hay - they'll really appreciate it! The hot tub is very inviting and if you're lucky, the night will be clear and the stars will be out! The cottage is cozy and clean, the bed is comfortable, and Christine has thought of everything - cooking utensils, coffee-maker, etc. My favorite part is the lovely covered patio - with plush, comfortable furniture and very special ambiance. There's even a great fire pit - in case you feel like roasting hot dogs or s'mores! Fernhaven Cottage is perfectly situated for easy access to hikes in Olympic Park, kayaking on Lake Crescent or in the Straits, and is just a short drive away from the wonderful Salt Creek Park - for excellent tide-pooling. All in all, great location and great lodgings. I would definitely recommend this property to a friend or relative, and the owner, Christine is a real gem - not only is she incredibly hospitable, but she's very helpful and knows the area very well.

I stayed at Fernhaven in the fall of 2010 while working on my novel. The setting is relaxed, quiet and private, despite it's closeness to the homeowner. Christine was welcoming and so kind -- she was just a joy to speak with. I'm looking forward to a return trip -- for longer!
