Beautiful Modern Northern California Beach House

Our modern, bright & airy beach house has been in our family for over 30 years. Located less than half a block from the beach and only a few short blocks from the restaurants and stores in the scenic town of Stinson Beach, it's an ideal location for really 'getting away from it all.'
***Starting in 2013 the property is available to rent ONLY in the months of July & August and ONLY by the week for those two months.***
The entire house has was completely redecorated and updated with a newly landscaped yard in 2008. Two units include two full kitchens & living rooms. Each unit sleeps four, with the smaller unit having one bedroom with a queen bed & a twin day bed with twin trundle in the living room, and one full bathroom. The larger unit features two large bedrooms with queen sized beds and two full bathrooms.
The larger unit has a large second floor deck with an ocean view and table that can seat 8, as well as a gas grill and lounge chairs. The larger unit also features an open plan kitchen with dining area that can seat 8.
A private backyard has a paved flagstone eating area, fruit trees, and new landscaping. The units are accessed by separate front doors off of a covered walkway.
Both units have electric baseboard heaters as well as wood burning cast iron stoves. Wood is provided for 'fireside' dining.
West Marin is one of the jewels of the San Francisco Bay Area. Stinson Beach, the West Marin town closest to San Francisco, is a small beachside town with less than 1,000 year round residents. It is the biggest, nicest beach within striking distance of the urban pleasures that abound in Northern California. Less than an hour from San Francisco, and only 30 minutes from Mill Valley and the picturesque town of Sausalito, it's an ideal location from which to explore all that the Bay Area has to offer.
Yet when you are at Stinson, you are surrounded by nature. Surfing, swimming, hiking on Mt Tamalpais, the majestic redwoods of Muir Woods, and the Audubon Canyon Ranch Bird Preserve are part of the bounty of West Marin. Walking on the beach you can spot seals and many, many birds as the nearby Bolinas Lagoon is a vital part of the Pacific Flyover for migrating birds.
The towns of Bolinas, Olema, & Point Reyes Station are all easily accessible. Within an hour’s drive are the towns of Tomales Bay and Occidental, famous for it’s old Italian restaurants.
Stinson beach offers several restaurant options, as do the surrounding towns. Fresh oysters, mussels, and clams can be picked up nearby, as can a wide variety of fresh produce from local farms. There is an outstanding weekly farmer’s market in Pt. Reyes featuring locally grown organic produce.

We enjoyed our stay so much. The beach house is lovely, comfortable well kept, and it was wonderful being so close to the beach. It was all I expected and more. This is the first time I have done something like this, and I would definitely do it again. Besides walking on the beach, we enjoyed viewing the nesting egrets at the Audubon Sanctuary and walking into Stinson Beach as well as a trip to Muir Woods. Everyone should see the redwoods. A great time.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers.

A group of friends having been renting in the Stinson Beach area for several years. We wanted an upgrade from our previous accomodations and decided to rent at a new location. We were pleasantly surprised and the home was the delight of a stormy, rainy week. When the sun broke thru we were able to take long walks on the beach, which was only 2 houses from our door. The upper family room of the main unit looks out on the ocean, and you can hear the waves both night and day. We found the kitchen a great place to cook for a group with the cupboards stocked with everything you might need. The linens and beds were comfortable and clean, the wood burning stoves added to the ambiance, and the outside patio was a great place to gather in the sun for a group meal or just good conversation. We had so much fun even when it rained, I wonder how much more fun you could have in the sun and heat. The pictures on the website were very accurate as to the condition of the home. Renting the home is definitely in our plans for future get togethers. Doing business with the owner was a pleasure.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway.

Our two sons and their families had a wonderful stay here over the Thanksgiving holiday. The rooms were just right for all of us. The kitchens and the family room in the main house worked really well with a great view. The homes were well appointed and an easy walk to the beach. The most important thing is that we will be sure to rent this one again. We have been renting in the Stinson Beach area for the last 25 years and this is one of the best homes that we have stayed in.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My family of four, plus two frends of my children, had a great week at this house in late August, 2010. The house is as described on the VRBO website; it's in good condition and is furnished with all the items you need for a vacation, including kitchen equipment (we cooked almost every meal there), firewood for the wood stoves, lots of beach towels, two beach mattresses, and even a boogie board, although you'd have to be nuts to swim in the cold Pacific ocean without a wet suit. We rented both the large and small units; my wife and I stayed in the small unit, which gave us privacy, and our twenty-something kids and their friends stayed in the large unit, where we all gathered for meals and conversation. We preferred the large unit, which has large windows and access to the second-floor deck with views of the ocean; althought the small unit is nicely decorated and furnished, it is on the first floor, and has no views of the ocean or much else. The location of the house was its primary attraction for us -- a very short walk to a gorgeous two-mile beach with roaring ocean surf, a short walk to the ice cream and video store after dinner, a ten-minute walk to the market, restaurants and bookstore in the town of Stinson Beach, a short drive to the Panoramic Highway that goes up to Mount Tam and its wonderful hiking trails and views, and less than an hour's drive to Sonoma wine country, Point Reyes, Sausalito and downtown San Francisco. I don't know anywhere else in the country with such a variety of interesting places to visit, and yet such a low-key ambience for relaxing. Be aware, however, that although we had sunny warm weather on five out of our seven days, there is often fog, clouds, and temparature in the 60's, particularly in the morning and even in late August -- this is the northern California coast, not Florida.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We just returned from a week long stay in Stinson and will definitely rent this house again. Just a few doors from the beach and with a great 2nd story deck overlooking the beach and the ocean. We would set up our beach spot in the morning and then leave our chairs, towels, toys, etc. on the beach while we returned home for lunch on the deck. The outdoor shower was a must after a day at the beach. Walking distance to town and the local market and restaurants. Thoroughly enjoyed the house: wifi, good kitchen and nice rooms. All you need for a relaxing beach vacation. Thanks.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1972
About the owner: Our family has owned this property for close to 40 years - three generations have been able to and continue to enjoy it. We live in Oakland, about an hour away from Stinson Beach, meaning we get to enjoy the house often when it's not being rented.
Why the Owner Chose Stinson Beach:
Stinson Beach is one of our favorite parts of the Bay Area - it's close to 'civilization' while feeling completely removed. It's a great place to get away from the hecticness of daily life, and close enough to be able to do it often!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Being so close to both the beach and to town is invaluable, but there are times we hardly leave the privacy and beauty of the deck and yard!
