We really enjoyed our week in Casita Maria. Great value, good location, excellent service. Beds were very comfortable, enjoyed the welcome fruit basket, the extra beach towels, and the friendly staff. We didn't want to leave!

Recommended for:Tourists without a car.

We stayed at Casita Maria for a week (3 adults on a SCUBA and sightseeing trip) and it was everything we needed to call home. The beach is right around on the other side of the property, and upon arrival, we spent our first day hanging out with tropical drinks under the palapas facing Half Moon Bay. It was a peaceful, uncrowded beach, with nice snorkeling right in the bay if you don't want to walk down to Yal-ku lagoon. A great restaurant/bar called La Buena Vida is a 3 min walk down the beach from the property, and kept our tummies full of ceviche and delicious drinks. Property management and service were great, Augustin was able to answer all our last minute questions and make suggestions on the sights that were most worthwhile to see. The casita is not huge or fancy, but it was more than enough space for three people with giant suitcases as well as full bags of dive gear. It is also in a great location for sightseeing in the Yucatan, since you are in the middle of the Riviera Maya and can drive easily to Tulum, Coba, Playa and we even made it out to Ek Balam. The owners are also great and very helpful, answered all our emails promptly and gave us so many travel tips to plan our stay. If we were to return to the Yucatan, we would definitely be staying in Akumal and Casita maria again. Thank you!

We loved the location of Casita Maria. It was in the middle of everything from Playa del Carmen to Tulum. Although we could have gone without a rental car we were glad to have one. Visited Coba which still allows people to climb the tallest pyramid in the Yucatan, Xcacel beach for awesome body surfing, Akumal beach to snorkel with the turtles (keep your distance so you don't disturb them), and several Cenotes (freshwater pools) including Dos Ojos and Casa Cenote (both very different snorkeling experiences, one a cave and one an open slow flowing river) Since we were on a budget we were thrilled to have the kitchenette which was sufficient for our needs. We didn't do much eating out since we had purchased groceries at the Mega in Playa del Carmen (Awesome pastries and bread). To be honest we didn't spend much time in the Casita except to sleep, cook, and clean up (good running water, extremely clean, and well kept-some very tiny ants or something on the counters if you left any crumbs out). The price was affordable for the area since you are not paying for a view. The Casita is on the ground floor which doesn't actually look out onto the beach (a small disappointment that we dealt with since it is only a few steps around the building to the pool and the beach). I have to comment on the owners who diligently answered all of my emails and gave so many helpful tips I almost feel like part of the family- thanks for the help for first time travelers. To all who visit, be sure to spend some time relaxing under the palapas in front of Half Moon Bay sipping on a cold Coronita watching the turtles pop their heads out of the surf! Definitely the good life we'd stay here again anytime!

We stayed at Casita Maria for 4 days: 2 adults and a 3 year old. It was perfect. Very economical since you pay to have sand under your toes in 5 seconds from the front door rather than a view of it from balconies. Leisurely walks to either the Yal Ku lagoon or to the Akumal pueblita make a car unnecessary unless you want to leave Akumal. Daily maid service and all the amenities necessary for a super relaxing stay. Loved it!

Casita Maria was perfect! There is no other way to put it. My Wife and I loved it. Clean, cozy and comfortable are all understatements! The staff is super helpful and ready to help. We traveled to Chichen Itza and spent the night, but we were homesick for our Casita and couldn't wait to get back! We feared that there would not be the utensils we needed to cook but there were more kitchen gadgets there then in my kitchen at home! The Owners are super people and very helpful with suggestions that made our vacation much better, we will be staying there again. Of all the places we saw in Akumal, Playa Caribe was the nicest! You will not be disappointed. My only complaint is that I am not there now! Jack

Casita Maria was absolutely perfect for our recent visit to Akumal. The casita is cheerful and super clean, and it's a terrific value. Everything was extremely comfortable -- the shower was awesome, the bed and linens were comfy, and the kitchen was very well equipped. Around back of the property is a nice little pool, and a couple steps down is the beach on beautiful Half Moon Bay, which is great for snorkeling. We saw a couple of sea turtles and a large ray just feet from the shore. There are a couple of good restaurants within a couple minutes' walk, and more options are available in downtown Akumal just down the road. Parking was a breeze, and Augostin at the front desk was friendly and helpful. Overall, we absolutely loved this little place and hope we can stay there again someday!
