Fantastic Vacation Rental

Guest: Maggie (San Francisco)
Date of Stay: 01/21/11 Review Submitted: 02/06/11

I went here with another family, all together we were 5 adults and 2 toddlers, and there was plenty of room and communal space. The kitchen was very well designed with plenty of counterspace and eating room. We loved it and the location was perfect, close to skiing and also close to hiking and sledding. Also was great to work with the owner. Thanks so much!

Perfect Multi-Family Ski Trip!

Guest: Judy (San Francisco)
Date of Stay: 02/02/11 Review Submitted: 02/06/11

We just completed a four-night stay at the "Get Away Chalet" and are already considering planning another trip this season! Two couples with two kids each found this cabin the perfect size for enjoying all Lake Tahoe has to offer in February. The 8 year-olds developed an early skiing addiction after three days of Ski School at Homewood (just 10 minutes away) while parents enjoyed plenty of blues and blacks and inexpensive lift tickets. The 5 year-olds (and parents) enjoyed the fantastic sledding at Granlibakken, just 1/4 mile up the street from the cabin. Save-Mart 5 minutes away provided plenty of grocery (and inexpensive ski gear) shopping and adorable Tahoe City has loads of eating and shopping options for the whole family. The kids loved having their own separate hangout upstairs with TV and foosball. We enjoyed the large kitchen and eating areas and found it perfect for hosting a small dinner party with other friends staying in the area. The kitchen is well-equipped with plenty of dishes, glasses and flatware, large pots for spaghetti or chili, and large capacity (12-cup) coffee pot. Many basics are also currently available (handsoap, dishsoap, salt, pepper, sugar, coffee filters, ziplocs and foil). If you go bring some extra TP and napkins. With your bath towels remember the bathmat (we forgot!) There is a bathtub in the downstairs bathroom for the little ones, the non-slip mat is stored under the sink. Also if you have small children bring some plastic cups, the glassware at the cabin is large and heavy (we used the shotglasses to serve milk!) The beds are warm and there are plenty of extra blankets in the closets. Although we didn't need it, there is a highchair in the downstairs bedroom closet. Another thing the kids enjoyed...there is a front porch as well as a backyard fun for snow play, and even a cute wooden swing in the backyard that the kids "discovered"! The driveway and street approach are both very flat making winter driving easy. Salt is provided for any overnight ice that develops. Lastly, I really enjoyed communicating with the owner, Lee, he is friendly and easily reachable via email. Thanks for a wonderful trip!

Owner response:Thanks Judy for your great review. I am glad it worked for you but I am sorry that I forgot to tell you that all the extra paper goods are in the utility room cabinets. Guests really do not need to bring their own T.P. Thanks, Lee

Getaway Chalet

Guest: Jay (Roseburg, OR)
Date of Stay: 09/11/10 Review Submitted: 09/28/10

Great place to getaway and relax. Comfortable, cozy and convenient to everything in town. We enjoyed our hikes around town and around Lake Tahoe, to Eagle and Cascade lakes. Front deck was great in the afternoon sun and to enjoy so many stars at night!. We had a great time -- thanks for sharing your house with us.! The sandwiches at Fat Cat Cafe are out of this world!! (Service is not great...)

Owner response:Hello prospective "Get Away Chalet" members, I just wanted to make sure you read Jay's review correctly. The lousy service he is referring to is at the "sandwich shop". Thank you, Owner - Lee

40th Anniversary at the Getaway Chalet

Guest: Karen (Morgan Hill, California)
Date of Stay: 07/09/10 Review Submitted: 07/16/10

When deciding how to spend our 40th anniversary, we considered a cruise or travelling to Hawaii. Because we wanted to include our grown children, we decided on a trip to Lake Tahoe. We chose the "Getaway Chalet" because of its location. We loved the pictures we saw on VRBO of the roomy bedrooms, fireplace, and living area. We easily made our reservations using the VRBO number. The owner contacted us and made several wonderful suggestions on mountain-biking trails, hiking destinations, and restaurants in the area. We arrived and were amazed to find everything one could want, from crock pot to crystal wine glasses, stacked neat and clean in the cupboards. The washer, dryer and dishwasher were efficient and easy to use. We settled in, watched stars on the deck, and listened to the silence! During our stay, we realized how fortunate we had been to select this destination. We walked to Tahoe City, rode tubes down the Truckee River, hiked to Eagle Rock, went mountain-biking at Northstar and Page Meadows, and even enjoyed a sunset cruise on the "Tahoe Cruz". Because we had a cabin and not a hotel room, our grown children were able to join us when it was convenient for them. We spent hours on the deck, sipping coffee, eating meals, and relaxing. Though there were many local restaurants nearby, we chose to cook and enjoy our favorite meals at the cabin. Tahoe City, and its surrounding area, is known for its convenience to winter skiing and snow sports areas such as Homewood, Northstar, Squaw Valley and Granlibakken. But, I can assure you, spending time at the Getaway Chalet during the summer is a real treat. I can only imagine the beauty of the fall colors or the snow-capped trees during winter.

Super Comfortable, Great Value

Guest: Joe the SnowBoarder (San Jose, CA)
Date of Stay: 03/20/10 Review Submitted: 03/29/10

I highly recommend this property for a variety of reasons and plan to stay there again the next time we plan a trip to Lake Tahoe. I liked this place because of the location, comfort, ambiance and value compared to other cabins I checked out. The owner is great to deal with and property description and instructions are clear and accurate. Our 4 night stay for a snow-boarding trip was fantastic! 10 minutes to Alpine or Squaw. The cabin is warm, comfortable and very quiet surrounded by big trees. The only noise you will hear are chirping birds. The kitchen is very well stocked with everything you need for those evening pasta dinners and morning breakfast to fuel up before you hit the slopes. We used many of the appliances; coffee pot, Crock-pot, stove, microwave, dish-washer….you name it. Everything is in good condition. Hugh counter space. We used the down stairs DVD/TV every night to watch movies and the upstairs TV was used for those who wanted to watch other stuff. My iPod Touch connected to the WiFi no problem. Beds are comfortable, plenty of hot water, fireplace added a nice coziness to the evening down time. Thanks Lee! Love this place!
