Great spot for family vacation. 4 teenage girls had a great time biking/walking to Belmar and the beach. Everyone also loved swimming in the beautiful water off the very spacious dock. Owner was accommodating, and even put a mooring bouy in so I was able to have my boat. House has a nice open floor plan, and balcony off master bedroom was great. Lighting in home needs to be improved.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

My Husband and I stayed here last summer with our two children and had an amazing time. We particularly enjoyed the dock and being able to swim right from the house. The house was clean, conveniently located, and suited our needs to a T. We brought our beach cruisers with us which was a nice way to get to the beach (less than a mile) without having to hassle with parking. Quiet, friendly neighborhood. Perfect combination of relaxation for us and plenty for our kids to do. Walking distance to restaurants in Belmar and to the quaint shops in Avon. We would come back in a heartbeat. The owner was accommodating and a pleasure to deal with. I highly recommend considering this property for your stay at the Jersey shore.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

I'm a Wall Street Broker who wanted a quick getaway from NYC sparing myself of the airports. I decided to hit the Jersey Shore and found quite a gem in a town called Avon By The Sea, New Jersey. I rented a really cool place on the Shark River Inlet. Beautiful views and the smell of saltwater in the air is what I will remember. I was also lucky enough to have great weather. At night you could see the lights on the water ~ really cool. You can also see the fishing ships coming and going. I like that I didn't have to drive anywhere. I either walked to Belmar or catch a cab to Asbury Park to watch live music at the Wonder Bar or eat a Reuben at Kelly's. The owner, almost to a fault, called me to check on the house and make sure there were no problems. If you are trying to stay out of Airports, live near Philly or NYC and need a great getaway you'll love this place.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

I have to admit I had major reservations about renting this property because of the reviews. But because of the location, I decided to take a tour and speak with the owner. He told me that he had an "absentee property manager" who did a terrible job representing his home and fired him after complaints. He told me that he would he would give me a 20% discount to sign on and would give me a 50% discount if the rental didn't live up to advertisement. I really enjoyed the cool breezes on the outside deck and watching the sun rise while drinking coffee on bedroom balcony. The house was very comfortable for five people and well maintained. Conveniently located to all the stores and shops. I couldn't swim because the water was cold but I had a blast walking the boardwalk Avon to Belmar and Asbury Park and checking out all of the sites along the way. I had a great time and rented a week this summer. Psyched!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Pros: The large deck overlooking the river was the best feature of this property. Lovely, quiet street. Cons: The owner asked that we delay our arrival by three days so that the house and deck could be cleaned up /fixed after a storm. As a result, we lost out on three days of our two week vacation. The owner refused to refund our payment for the missed three days. The loose/missing deck boards and missing deck railings were not in fact repaired/replaced. And, the kitchen oven did not work. The listing refers to a jetted tub in one of the bathrooms. There is no bath tub in this house. Two of the bathrooms have stall showers so small and dark as to make them unusable. Two of the four burners on the cook top were not functioning, and the grill on the deck did not work either. There was a hammock stand on the deck, but the hammock was in shreds. The master bedroom smelled musty as the carpeting was muddy and saturated from storm water. Lastly, the listing included Internet access and a satellite radio. However, the owner did not know how to access the network. The radio didn't work either. Way too expensive for what we found and experienced. The owner is not, in our opinion, guest focused or attentive to maintaining his home and property for high paying renters. We raised all of the above issues to the owner on day two of our arrival. The only thing that got fixed was the grill...because we finally drove to get a new fuel tank and fuel and installed it so that we could cook! The owner had our money upfront and we tried to make the best of a disappointing vacation experience.Owner response: Governor Christy enforced evacuation due to horicane. I asked tennant to consider other days at a different time. No security deposit received as a result of our agreement to accept property. Client reviewed property and was pleased with existing conditions. Best regards E J Vay

PROs/ The house is a bit old but nicely laid out: spacious ground level and large kitchen. The deck is right on the river and is very pleasant. CONs/ The owner turned out to be difficult to deal with: promised beach badges but never delivered them, asked us to buy and promised to reimburse but never did. We treated the house as our own and with great care, however the owner found some minor issues, we were ok with his deductions because in general we had a great time at the house and wanted to part on good terms. HOWEVER after three months of negotiations he disappeared and became unreachable. HE NEVER RETURNED THE AGREED AMOUNT TO US. We called and emailed him many times, and finally 5 months after we moved out we sued him in the NJ court of small claims (he didn't show up at the hearing) and requested a default judgment against him.Owner response: Generally pleasant experience. Client occupied premisis without total payment or security deposit. Significant demages incured including: fifteen hundred dollar Cosablanka fan, scratched floors, torned carpenting and broken awning motor. Tryed to resolve fee disperity to no avail. Requested several weeks after the fact. Sincerely E J Vay
