Enjoying the beauty and serenity of Jamaica Pond
VRBO Bear stayed here - 10/29/2009
This home, centrally located in Jamaica Plain, is the ideal place to stay if you are planning a visit to Boston. Jamaica Plain or “JP” as the locals call it is a very green, friendly and artsy neighborhood. This home has a fabulous remodeled kitchen that opens to a great patio which is perfect for outdoor entertaining or dining. Here, you can experience how the real Bostonians live!
The comfortable four bedroom, two bath home is situated right on Centre Street, the main street running through JP. Almost everything is in walking distance of the home. Along Centre Street there are some fantastic restaurants, eateries, pubs, shopping, art galleries, and bakeries. The street is also home to the famous JP Licks, which offers some of the best coffee and all-natural ice cream in Boston (one of the Bear’s favorite stops). Another claim to fame of Jamaica Plain is the historical Samuel Adams Brewery. Stop by for a free tour and tasting.
You’ll discover Jamaica Pond within a couple of blocks of this home. The pond is surrounded by very lush trees and landscaping. The 1.5 mile path that meanders through beautiful foliage draws runners and walkers galore. There are lovely benches to stop and take in the sheer beauty of this gorgeous setting. During the summer months, you can even rent sail boats and row boats. Breathtaking historical homes, some dating back to the early 17th century, surround the pond. Much of the architecture has withstood the test of time and has been painstakingly restored both inside and out. The Jamaica Pond and the very near Arnold Arboretum end what is commonly referred to as the Emerald Necklace. It’s a series of parks and waterways designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, an 1860’s landscape architect.
While in Boston be sure to take in as many of the historical sites as possible. Be sure to check out the Freedom Trail, the Boston Harbor, the Old North Church, and the Boston Commons (oldest park in the country). You really don’t need a car when staying here. Public transportation is right outside the front door and that will get you to the “T” (rail system) which takes you into downtown Boston or any of the surrounding areas. Once in the heart of downtown Boston, you can take an informative trolley tour around the town which permits you to jump off and on at any of the sites that interest you. The Bear highly recommends the narrative trolley tour!
After a long day of sightseeing, I especially liked curling up in front of the fireplace and pondering what my next Boston adventure would be…

It was a great location. We never rented a car. There were 6 in our group-with three children ages 11-14. We were able to catch a bus in front of the condo and easily get to the subway station or downtown. The deck was very nice and we were able to sit outside most evenings after a busy day of sightseeing. There were 3 adults and 3 children and the accommodations worked very well. The internet worked well for us. The owner answered any questions I had and checked with us in the middle of our week long stay to see if we needed any thing. There were convenience stores and restaurants within easy walking distance. We purchased a 7 day link card and took full advantage of it. There was a walking path around Jamaica lake within 3 blocks which made for a nice evening stroll. Grocery stores were on the one bus line which made food shopping easy. I would recommend this property to someone going to Boston on vacation.

This was my first time staying in Boston's JP and I was pleasantly surprised of the amount of space and amazing design of this rental. There is a restaurant and bar not even a block away with great food and atmosphere called 10 Tables. We also enjoyed a walk around JP pond just minutes away. We will definitely be back =)
