What a wonderful, relaxing location!

We just returned from the Big Island and Bamboo Hideaway was one of the highlights. As soon as we walked in and saw the unit, the artwork, the immaculate kitchen and bathroom, we knew this was an "upscale" accommodation. The pictures with the listing are all accurate - the view really does look like that - including the sunset! It is extremely well equipped - beach and picnic gear; full size refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, 2 burner hotplate, blender, coffee maker, electric frying pan, plenty of dishes, nice glassware. Absolutely everything we could have wanted for our stay. The lanai is awesome - we spent mornings and evenings just sitting there, watching the ocean, listening to the birds. The little geckos were quite entertaining. We appreciated the washer and drier. If you need to be around lots of night life, shopping, activities, then you might prefer being closer in to the city. The drive from Captain Cook to Kailua-Kona is about 20 minutes. The only "down side" (pun intended) was the very steep road and driveway... but that came along with the hillside location and view. We would definitely stay here again if we are on the island in the future. In fact, I'd be happy to spend my whole stay here! Nancy's information and directions were perfect and she made sure we had emergency contact numbers, though we were happy to not need them.

Lovely private home away from home. We stayed for a week in May 2011 and loved it, especially the lanai. Also appreciated amenities such as laundry, snorkling and beach gear, and bbq. Owners were very accomodating with arrival and departure times as well. Thank you!

Bamboo Hideaway - so perfect we didn't want to leave!

We stayed a week in October 2010. Originally planned to move into the one bedroom upstairs once it became vacant but we were so content with the hideaway we stayed put. Great location - quiet and private. We very much appreciated the amenities, especially the bbq and snorkel/beach equipment. We loved having our morning coffee on the lanai, while reading our books or watching the view, geckos, birds, and yes, even the beautiful spiders (on the OTHER side of the screened in porch). Loved going to the near-by market and shopping for local foods to prep "at home". This was probably our most relaxing vacation we've ever taken. Wouldn't hesitate to re-book the hideaway - we loved every minute there.

An Excellent Place to Stay

We enjoyed our 6-day stay in the Bamboo Hideaway. It is conveniently located near the best snorkel site – Two Steps. It is clean, quiet, private, and economical. We enjoyed the view the most and stayed in the screened room, when we were not out snorkeling or beach hopping. The kitchen is adequately equipped. (We bought both fresh and prepared food from the nearby supermarket from time to time.) Although not stated, snorkel sets and other things for beach may be available from the owner. The washer and dryer were a plus for us, because we continued our journey to other Hawaiian islands after that. We thought this was the idea vacation place for us and highly recommend it to any one who will vacation in Kona.

Bamboo Hideaway - perfect accomodations!

We stayed at the Bamboo Hideaway for 4 nights in May 2010. It is a wonderful place! The lanai has great views of the ocean, and is surrounded by beautiful lush tropical plants. In the evening your entertainment are the colorful geckos hanging out in the lanai. Even though there were homes nearby, we couldn't see or hear them - it is very private. The kitchen has all that you need to cook simple meals. Good location away from the touristy areas. The owners had snorkeling gear, beach chairs/mats, coolers, and boogie boards for us to borrow. That was really great - and saved us some money. We would definitely stay here again.

Bamboo Hideaway

Guest: sept big island (Portland, OR)
Date of Stay: 09/25/09 Review Submitted: 10/06/09

We stayed at the Bamboo Hideaway for a week. The setting is lovely- on the southwest coast of the Big Island in the coffee growing region with a great view of the shoreline a thousand feet below. We used the screened lanai extensively, with resident geckos and crickets adding to the natural setting and sounds. This is a steep section of the Captain Cook area...the driveway is very steep, and it's challenging to take walks without driving somewhere. Great access to several snorkeling areas. Most mornings were clear, afternoons were quite cloudy/drizzly. We enjoyed the use of beach chairs, coolers, and snorkel gear. There's a grocery store within a mile which was convenient. The kitchen space is quite small, with minimal outlets and no stove, but hotplate, electric frypan and toaster oven suffice. This was harvest time for the coffee farms in the area, which was interesting to watch. I recommend this property.
