The house is five minutes from the center square and a half a block from the lovely horticultural Parque Juarez, and is regularly featured on the San Miguel de Allende House and Garden tour.
San Miguel de Allende itself is a beautifully restored 400 year old colonial silver city, considered by many to be the prettiest town in Mexico, and it is protected by the government as an Historic Trust to ensure that it stays that way. The town has been enjoyed for many years by Americans, Canadians and Europeans.
It offers an extraordinary array of concerts, English language theatre, lectures and two famous art institutes, the Instituto Allende and the Bellas Artes, which offer classes in painting, sculpture, weaving, dance, photography, ceramics to name a few. There is a wonderful English language library with the largest collection of books in English outside of Mexico City. In short, the town is a rare jewel, not yet spoiled by unbridled tourism. |
