This was our family home for 6 years while our children were in middle and high school. This is where they learned to snorkel, dive, and fish. We were able to watch them go skiing, wakeboarding and tubing from our pool or seawall. My wife and I enjoyed kayaking and birdwatching.
This is a very comfortable, open house which is easy to live in and enjoy. Lots of natural light, all wood/tile floors. The sun porch has air conditioning, but windows open and are screened to allow enjoyment of the gulf breezes. The house has a great swimming pool where we spent many days and nights, floating in the pool with family or friends, enjoying the sun, the view, and the music from the outside stereo speakers. The stereo has a radio, CD player, and, if you bring an adaptor for your i-pod you can plug that in.
Marathon is in the heart of the Keys with outstanding fishing and diving. Numerous charter options are available for fishing, diving, and snorkeling. A number of boat/kayak rental companies are also available. Key West, with its abundant cultural, tourist, and nightlife activities, is a 1 hour drive. Marathon has a local community theater and cinema.

Why the Owner Chose Marathon
I have vacationed in the Keys since I was a teenager. I passed on my love of the Keys to my wife and children on a family vacation, and we moved here for me to try a solo pulmonary practice. I'm glad I had the experience, but ultimately the job was not a good fit for me. Our family lived in this home while the children were in middle and high school. This home will always hold a special place in my heart.
The Unique Benefits at this House
We enjoyed tubing, skiing, and wakeboarding directly in front of our house. We went fishing all year round, both in the bay and in the ocean. We are very close to Vaca Cut for easy ocean access. If it's rough in the ocean, you can usually find a good place in the bay to fish. We loved going for lobster in the bay or by the bridges. Sombrero reef offers amazing diving and snorkeling, and we enjoyed going out on a bright sunny day, bringing a picnic lunch, and spending the afternoon there. Another favorite activity is going to the sandbar at low tide for an afternoon picnic (lots of boats, beer and music, but perfectly safe, PG rated fun for the whole family).

My husband is a Critical Care physician currently working near Charlotte, NC. We enjoy fishing, boating, and scuba diving. We have two college age children and a spoiled dachshund who travels with us everywhere. We spend part of our time in the Charlotte area and part of our time in Florida, either at the house in the keys or in Gainesville with our kids.
