'The Island View House,' as it was known in its tourist house days, promoted 'gorgeous sunsets over the Camden Hills and one of the most picturesque views in the State of Maine.' It's been completely updated while maintaining the historic charm. There's a large yard with gardens, apple trees, stone wall, and a small barn for bikes, kayaks, & canoes. It's a 5 minute walk to public beach and hiking trail. Two decks: covered lower one has picnic table, grill, swing; upper deck has sweeping views across Eggmoggin Reach--a lovely place to relax with wine and cheese at sunset. After dark, the Milky Way, shooting stars, and bright planets make this a star-gazer's 'heaven. Spacious rooms are light and airy with comfortable furniture, comfy beds, and two full baths. A large, fully equipped kitchen with island, breakfast bar and large dining area is a great place to prepare fresh seafood. Refinished hardwood or pumpkin pine floors. Lots of extras--beach chairs, toys, videos, games, books!
The kitchen is fully equipped with full refrigerator, dishwasher, garbage disposal, quality cookware and utensils, Pfaltzgraff and Corelle dishes, and many small appliances.
The spacious living room has cable TV, a wood stove, and a beautiful adjoining sun room. The first-floor bath includes a washer and dryer. New towels are provided.
The master bedroom is huge; the beds have excellent mattresses and high-quality linens.
The house has central heat, and there is a Vermont Casting wood stove in the living room. French doors provide deck access from both the living room and master bedroom. The master bedroom and a second bedroom are on the first floor, along with the bath, living room, kitchen, dining area, and sun room. A third bedroom and a second bath are on the second floor. The roominess of this home allows up to six people to live in comfort.
There are several places to buy lobster in the area.
And if you are a novice at cooking fresh lobster, there is a fun video at the house on how to cook and eat a Maine lobster. Fresh clams, crab, mussels, and fish are also easily available in the area. And, if you prefer to eat out, there are many choices for terrific seafood dinners.
The beach is a five-minute walk away. A public boat launch is available at the bottom of the hill. The spectacular Acadia National Park is one hour away, as is the popular tourist town of Bar Harbor.
The house is located almost mid-point between Blue Hill and Stonington -- both interesting ocean towns to explore.
This house is an exceptional value and a lovely place to experience Downeast Maine in all its beauty. For more information, give us a call or e-mail us.

A Wonderful Family Vacation Site
A Wonderful Family Vacation Site
My husband and I rented this home for a week for a family vacation with two of our adult children and their spouses. My daughter's reaction when she walked in was, "Wow!" She had expected a small rustic cottage. The pictures on the website accurately portray the charm of this lovely farmhouse on hill overlooking the causeway which connects little Deer Isle and Deer Isle. We enjoyed day trips to Stonington Harbor, Acadia National Park, and just roaming Deer Isle to visit artist studios and galleries. But don't miss getting back to the house for a glorious sunset in the evening and lobster dinner. Lobster can be purchased fresh at Stongington Harbor. The kitchen is fully equipped to prepare a gourmet meal. We had a memorable vacation on Deer Isle and would highly recommend a stay at "The Island View House."

We were able to stay in the house for a week that has just passed and I can not say enough nice things about the home. The Owners Carole and Carol were fantastic to deal with, Carol came over to visit with us twice-the second time was to tell us that we could stay an extra day if our schedule allowed (it didn't) since the next occupants were not due in town for two more days! It is a historic house built in the early part of the 1800's, but has all the modern conveniences of home and a huge kitchen/dining area that you can spend time in cooking your live lobsters available for purchase at the Stonington Co-op just a short drive away. It has been well cared for over the years. There is an excellent journal of historical collections on the house that is in the home to review at your leisure. The house is much larger than you might imagine. It would be a great home for a family reunion too! We have been very fortunate to rent other homes around the country and Hawaii. I would highly recommend this house to anyone who is looking to get away from it all, to relax and to enjoy perfect hospitality.

We rented this home in July of 2010. The home was perfectly located on Deer Isle with amazing sunsets and a short walk to a splendid beach - not to mention the proximity of quiet roads for biking, other beaches, and services. The owners are wonderful and pleasant to deal with. The home is spacious and there is not one thing we longed for - they had games, books, beach chairs, a huge fully-equipped kitchen and a grill for cooking. We are already thinking about next year's summer vacation!

Owner response: This couple and their two sweet little girls were lovely guests. They left the house in great condition and were easy to work with. We would welcome them back any time.
Marvelous house and location
Marvelous house and location
We hated to leave Deer Isle and this wonderful house! The setting and the arrangements could not have been better. I, and all my family, are so glad that I "stumbled" upon the house on the internet and that it was available for the time we needed it. Everyone in my family (all 7 of us, including our then 2 yr. old grandson!) have already said to each other that this house is the one we want to stay in on our next family vacation to Deer Isle. We all felt at home with the well-equipped kitchen, the oh-so-comfortable beds, the gorgeous sunsets (we took lots of photos to remember them), the sun-filled rooms... a truly homey setting that made our vacation in Maine even better! Carol and Carole are the perfect "hosts" and I can't imagine anyone else being so accommodating and helpful.

Comments from our house guest book: "A house of many perspectives. A good place to read, write, think, pray. I'll miss especi~~~y that view to the West-to the deep blue of the Camden Hills, the cool greens of the islands, the tide receding to reveal Carrey Island's dirty petticoat, the beach crows and the wail of the gulls scavenging the causeway for snacks." W.M."We had a marvelous stay in your home. Both of us fell in love with the house and the area. You have found a piece of paradise…gentle people, spectacular scenery and lots of creative energy. What else could you want!" D. A. "What a delightful, restful and beauty-filled vacation we've had here. We've enjoyed the comfort, convenience, and wonderful views-of garden and beyond as far as the Camden Hills. We love Deer Isle and feel lucky to have seen it from the vantage point of this great, interesting house." S.A."Thank you for a perfectly wonderful week in Maine! From the moment we stepped into your warm, light-filled home until we sadly packed our belongings today, we enjoyed every moment of life here. As my five-year-old put it: "It's so beautiful here-I think we should stay." M.D. "It was lovely to stay here. P.J."Deer Isle is the best kept secret in America! Thanks so much for letting us rent your charming house and spend six beautiful, serene days here…The boat ride to Isle au Haut on the postal boat was a highlight…Thanks so much for putting lots of sunshine, green trees, and water into the lives of four folks from Utah." K.B."Your house is filled with so much light and positive energy. We loved the flowers, the porch and the wonderful kitchen!…It was difficult to leave but already we're looking forward to next year."
