The three properties described here are all located in Casa Pipistrelli, one of the houses that forms the beautiful hillside hamlet of Peralta, on a south facing hillside above the valley of Camaiore. Casa Pipistrelli is a three storey house.with a one bedroom garden apartment on the ground floor, a studio apartment on the top floor & 4 B&B rooms inbetween. All are let separately, all have wonderful views and their own private entrances from different terraces. Each apartment has its own private terrace and do not overlook each other.
Peralta, with medieval origins, was restored over a period of thirty years with love and imagination by international sculptor Fiore de Henriquez. She created a place that is quite unique. Its commanding position gives Peralta stunning panoramic views over the valley to the sea beyond. Terraces of olive groves, orange and lemon trees, bougainvillea, jasmine covering the stone walls makes the hamlet seem like paradise. Fiore’s sculpture and the manner in which she designed and restored Peralta, give the place its very special character and atmosphere. Perfect base for a holiday, far from busy crowds and yet with easy access to all main Tuscany attractions. It is lovely to return to the peace of Peralta after a busy day. Peralta has various accommodation, mainly self catering, in different buildings.
Peralta can offer:: The beautiful peaceful hamlet of Peralta has a spectacular setting in the Tuscan hills that rise high above the valley of Camaiore. There is a swimming pool on one of the upper terraces, a tranquil spot with a panoramic view towards the sea. The large terrace in front of Peralta is a lovely place to sit with a glass of wine, enjoy the sunsets and meet other guests.
Art at Peralta: As well as for guests who simply wish to relax and enjoy their surroundings and the pool, Peralta also offers an ideal, inspiring setting for creative people: painting, sculpting, writing. A studio for sculpture is available. Writers can settle in and write in peace, knowing that simple daily needs are catered for. Shopping can be done, meals provided, taxis ordered. Lovely walking country with marked trails through the olive groves and hills dense with chestnut trees and known for their wild flowers in spring and autumn. Walks range from 50 minutes to a delightful restaurant in an adjoining village, to three hours up to the peak of the Mount Prana above Peralta. Peralta is ideal for playing host to a conference, workshop, retreat. We have hosted many a family party, birthday celebration or simply friends who wish to get together. People can be together but also have their own space. We can organise a small group up to a maximum of 32. Please contact us for our website address.

Amazingly lovely setting and magical atmosphere in the hillside gardens. Getting up the hillside is an adventure - but well worth it! We will never forget this holiday - and hope one day we might make it back.Owner response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review - always much appreciated and we are happy to know you enjoyed Peralta so much.

The fact that my husband urged me not to write a review as it would encourage far too many others to visit, says it all! This was our second visit and will certainly not be our last. The tricky winding road up to reach Peralta in all its wooded isolation lends a feeling of excitement and anticipation. This is an ideal holiday for the independent traveller: the staff were welcoming and readily took our suitcases to La Pipistrelle (we had requested the same flat as last year) and showed us all that we needed to know. Apart from the swimming pool, the amenities are few and simple. Just what we wanted as an escape from London life. Peralta is essentially self-catering but guests can also buy Laura's legendary ready-prepared food to eat in their own accommodation. There is a small bar which works on an 'honesty' principle and guests often gather for an aperitif on the wide terrace dominated by sculptor Fiore de Henriques' monumental dove sculpture. The view is outstanding: the sea on the horizon flanked by mountains with Camaiore spread out below. Each room (and at the bar) has a booklet describing all the local sights, Dinah's (owner) favourite walks and drives, with accurate directions and other local information. This is not a holiday for people looking for constant amusement, but if like us, you seek the opportunity to walk, swim, read and even talk to one another you couldn't do better than Peralta. Thank you to Dinah, Kate, Laura, Stephen and the team. Room Tip: Accommodation is according to the number of guests wishing to share but staff will always help with special requests. Our holiday was during a heat wave and so sleep did not get the five stars that it would otherwise deserve. Fans are supplied.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway.

After a hectic year in work our 10 day holiday in Peralta was just what we needed. The accommodation was very comfortable and clean and the food we had ordered was waiting for us when we arrived. After a 2 hour flight delay the home made pasta sauce and cold wine were bliss. The views from the Garden Apartment are stunning and we spent many hours just sitting, relaxing and enjoying the experience. We also made full use of the pool - though access would be more difficult for anyone with more limited mobility. We had a number of excellent meals out and very much enjoyed a selection of Laura's home cooked food and it was nice to have a number of options including self catering. During our stay we visited Florence and Lucca as well as more local sight seeing and we also did one of the local walks which was most enjoyable - we opted for a low key holiday but would have had the option for a packed 10 days if we had wanted to cover the whole of the area. I would very much recommend Peralta and hope to visit again,Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway.

Searching the internet for holiday destinations in Italy can seem like an endless task, and one that you are never sure will pay off, so I hope to save you some time by recommending Peralta, near Camaiore in Northern Tuscany. If you have the chance, book it, you won't be disappointed. Peralta has many things going for it; proximity to airports, like Pisa, and beaches, like Viareggio, as well as the numerous walks that are near to foot, and local restaurants. Peralta offers various accommodation possibilities, from couples to families, and can even provide some meals (with notice). I was only there for five days, but I got the feeling that each room or apartment was just as nice and relaxing to be in as ours - I went with my wife - with terraces that have wonderful views and interiors that are tastefully decorated. There is a nice, if smallish, pool at the top of Peralta, where you can take in the scenery, or get some sun. More great scenery, in the form of a panorama overlooking the small valley below, can be found at the main terrace, in front of the honour bar, where you can enjoy a glass of wine or a beer and watch the day slip into night. What I found most surprising was that you don't really see people very often, and it can be very quiet - I was surprised because there are quite a few places to stay, six or more I think. This was a pleasant surprise, but I think it indicative of the atmosphere; tranquil and beautiful. The staff were also very helpful, from helping to get the luggage to the apartment to giving advice on where to go. I've already said quite a bit, though in a way not enough, for it's hard to describe the rejuvenation that Peralta provided. In any event, I heartily recommend it. Oops, I forgot to mention the drive up, which can be a bit daunting if you don't have that much driving experience, but Kate and Dinah provide excellent instructions on how to approach it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+.

Three generations of us plus various friends stayed in Peralta together in September to celebrate my birthday and had the best family holiday ever. Not only was there plenty of space for us all to be separate when we felt like it but the hamlet is stunning and the view from the terraces (yes, that IS a plural) breathtaking. Help was always at hand if we needed it but somehow the owner and staff managed to combine this with letting us have a feeling of total privacy and relaxation. This is the perfect place to rest and recharge, enjoy the company of family or friends, or to find peace and inspiration to write, draw, paint - or simply think.Did you find this review helpful? Michael und GertrudDid you find this review helpful? Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Why the Owner Chose Pieve Di Camaiore:
International sculptor Fiore de Henriquez was living in the area of Camaiore from the 1960's due to its proximity to the Carrara marble quarries and the bronze foundries of nearby Pietrasanta. In the 1970's she found the small hamlet of Peralta, perched on the hillside above Camaiore. It was remote, served only by a footpath, and the buildings were mainly in ruins - their inhabitants having left in the mid 1950's due to the hard living in the hills. No water nor electricity at this time. Fiore fell in love with the hamlet and managed to gradually buy the various houses. She then set about restoring them and the hamlet and created the very unique place that exists today. She died in 2004 and the hamlet was then taken over by a very good friend of her's who is the current owner. . Repairs and renovations are undertaken where necessary, but the essential essence of the hamlet remains the same as when Fiore was alive. It is the home of her archive and sculptures, which can be seen throughout the grounds and in the various accommodation.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
It is hard to describe the absolute charm and beauty of Peralta and why I am so passionate about it. I now own it and am as much in love with it as Fiore before me. Every corner has its surprises, small details to delight the eye. The wisterias and bougainvilleas offer vibrant colour and essential shade. The views are wonderful, changing with the light, with the weather, with the season. Sunsets are magic. Early morning mist lying in the valley. The sight of Corsica on a clear day. The large bronze sculpture of 'The Phoenix' on the main terrace about to fly off over the valley. Fiore used to say it signifies 'Peralta rising from the ashes'. The many sculptures Fiore left for visitors to enjoy on the terraces. Her private gallery which I love to show to guests and one evening a week, at aperitivo time, I invite any guests staying at Peralta to a viewing of the gallery and Fiore's original house I hope many visitors will find their way to Peralta and enjoy it as much I do ......... possibly even fall in love with it!
