The Stone Quarry House offers a freestanding one-bedroom apartment which was designed to compliment the original 19th-century farmhouse, or the stone cottage with fireplace and Jacuzzi.
The Stone Quarry House is located on 35 acres of reclaimed stone quarry. Relax in our rural setting, only two miles from Cornell University and four miles from downtown Ithaca. The hillside meadow is ideal for sledding in the winter and bird watching in the summer. Watch the aerial acrobatics of the swallows over the pond while sitting in the Adirondack chairs, or observe the goldfinches in the walled garden from the stone bench.
All rooms are newly furnished with hardwood floors and Stickly and Amish-made furniture. The apartment has granite countertops, maple cabinets, a hand-knotted Persian carpet, and incredibly comfortable beds. The apartment has a king-size bed and a leather couch that opens out to a queen-size bed. The stone cottage has a Tempurpedic king-size bed and a couch which opens to become a very comfortable queen-size bed.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1985
We love to travel, yet we are always happy to return to Ithaca and our two dogs, one cat and many canaries. Buzz is a serious golfer when he isn't working. He works in stone and is currently building two LEED certified apartments. Nancy's training is in counseling, but her strongest interest these days is living sustainably, gardening and cooking from scratch, supporting the growing network of local food producers, and food preservation.
Why the Owner Chose Ithaca
Ithaca is 'centrally isolated' - within five hours drive of much of the northeast population, but not too close to anywhere. Cornell University and Ithaca College help support a healthy economy and an active arts and intellectual environment. The natural beauty of the area nurtures the soul, while winter sports, hiking, and water sports provide plenty of opportunities for engaging the body.
The Unique Benefits of this Cottage
It is a quick ride into town by car, or a longer, less direct bus ride. Walking out the door there are panoramic views and a quiet walk down a leafy country lane. Sitting by the pond you can observe the ducks, chickens, acrobatic swallows. We are happy to talk about sustainability and maybe you'll even want to learn a new skill (canning, juicing, etc.) and bring home some local produce.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the stone cottage last Fall and we could not have been more pleased, both with the accomodations and with Nancy and Buzz, they are just great. Whatever questions we had, they were right there spot-on with answers and advice. We had never been to the area and they were full of great information and suggestions, both for walks and places to which we could drive. The cottage itself is an absolute marvel, we had never seen anything like it and it looks as if every little detail had been considered and made as fine as possible. And the bed and the bathtub are worth the price of admission alone. A great great place, highly recommended.

We very much enjoyed the stone cottage! Very impressive craftsmanship and attention to detail. It felt like a home away from home. We love the Ithaca region and will be back someday.

We have loved staying at the Stone Cottage and the Apartment over the past four years of our daughter's undergraduate time at Cornell. Many happy winter, fall and spring memories . . . We have so enjoyed the artistic work (and work in progress) of Nancy and Buzz. We appreciate their kind hospitality and their sharing this beautiful spot.

We were SO excited to spend our first anniversary here! This quiet cottage fit everything we were looking for. We had a great time exploring Ithaca, taking in the scenery and slowing down for a little while. Thanks for giving us this place to reconnect and refocus on our commitment to one another- we will never forget it. Looking forward to the challenge of trying to top this next year : )
