Wonderfully spacious period property with large areas and original, quality furnishings. The house has a sitting room with vaulted ceilings and a fireplace. The dinning room has a traditional fireplace large enough to sit in, with a superb handcrafted table to seat up to 12. The kitchen is fully equipped with another seating area that leads out onto the garden.
The pool is luxurious and large, made out of black mosaic and slate and surrounded by 400 sq me of decking. The garden is beautifully laid out with cobbled paving reclaimed from a local castle.
The garden has roses, pathways lined with lavender, fruit trees and plenty of lawned areas. There are outside areas for dinning, plenty of seating and other outside furniture. For the kids there is a ping-pong table, a trampoline and a tree house.
Herdade dos Alfanges lies in a valley surrounded by three villages: Alvito, Viana do Alentejo and Vila Nova da Baronia. All the villages are less than 5km away and you can walk to Vila Nova through the countryside (2km). The villages are historic; Viana has a castle with four naves dating back from the 14th century and Alvito has a castle dating back from the 11th century.
The villages are wonderfully authentic, white washed houses with blue or yellow sashes, complete with a generation of people, now retired, that could come straight out of a Fellini Movie. Don´t forget Evora, a beautiful walled city and a UNESCO heritage site dating back to the Romans.
A university town with lots of shops, restaurants and sites to see. This is a beautiful part of Europe - especially great in Spring. The countryside is a riot of wild flowers and the weather is great!

Dear Heleen and family, Thank you for sharing your beautiful dream home with us. We will always remember our special time here at Alfanges. We spent 2 days relaxing together by the pool, playing baseball in the yard, exploring the nearly fields and even hiked to the “signal tower” on the mountain. We enjoyed dinner one night at the villa eating out on the deck and two nights in town at o “Casão”. We played marco polo in the pool; spent hours sunning ourselves, reading, listening to music, playing tag ( inside and outside the pool); danced by the pool; rode bikes…oh it goes on and on! We had such a wonderful family time together! The house itself was amazing- the details made it so extre-special! Thank you also for being such a lovely hostess and taking care of us so well. We loved the dessert in the fridge and the excellent selection of wine! Oh! and the chicken pastry-yum!! Honestly, Heleen we do think this is the most amazing place and we hope someday to return. Cristina was magic. Can I take her home?! Superb accommodation, surrounds and setting. Your villa has made Portugal so memorable.
