Casually elegant, pristine and very private 3,500-square-foot California Mediterranean house in the Oakmont Estates section of guard-gated Mission Hills Country Club. Lovely and inviting interior created by noted Los Angeles designer for owner's personal use, plus lush, mature landscaping throughout the property, which measures one-third of an acre.
Outside: Gated front courtyard is a tranquil oasis including a gently overflowing water feature, banana palms and bougainvillea. Backyard has two covered patios (one with sitting area), four wrought-iron chaise lounge chairs, four fountains spilling into a large pool, a spa that accommodates six, decorative pottery and a stainless-steel built-in gas BBQ, all surrounded by a mature ficus hedge.
Inside: Art-filled, colorful main house with custom walls and ceilings in all public rooms sleeps up to six in three bedrooms (1 king, 2 queen beds), each with a full bath. Detached casita with pale-blue walls and bamboo-wallpaper ceiling has a full bath and sleeps two (day bed/2 twins). Luxurious master suite with enormous closet and king bed overlooks the pool, and the spacious master bath has a walk-in shower enclosed by glass block, his/her sink areas plus a make-up station, and a deep Jacuzzi tub.
Well-equipped, eat-in kitchen with center island features stainless-steel appliances, six-burner gas stove, built-in microwave oven, rich wood cabinetry and granite countertops. Through the butler’s pantry with glass-fronted cabinets is the dining room, with 18-foot ceilings, gas fireplace, flowing silk curtains, a wall of six French doors and Arte de Mexico chandelier and sconces. Living room with multiple conversation areas, gas fireplace and a wet bar overlooks the pool and gardens. There are custom window treatments throughout the house, and built-in stereo speakers inside and out. Dogs typically are okay with advance approval, but no cats, please.
Rental rates include cable TV, high-speed wireless Internet access throughout the house, weekly pool service, weekly gardening service, water and unlimited long-distance domestic telephone.
Mission Hills Country Club is a members-only facility with three 18-hole golf courses, and the Westin Mission Hills hotel has two public 18-hole golf courses.
Nearby shopping includes The River (Rancho Mirage), El Paseo (Palm Desert) and Palm Canyon Drive (Palm Springs), each with a variety of stores, boutiques and art galleries. Children will enjoy the Living Desert, Knott’s Soak City and the Children’s Discovery Museum, while adults will enjoy the spas at the desert’s many resorts and the nearby Agua Caliente casino. World-class golf and tennis are within the gates of Mission Hills. Many other attractions and restaurant options are too numerous to list.

Just returned from a weeklong, multi-generational trip (2 adults, 3 kids, 2 grandparents) to Palm Desert for spring break. We have stayed at almost a dozen VRBO properties with the kids and grandparents, and this was among the best. The property is even nicer than the pictures would suggest. The residence is relatively new, spacious, professionally decorated/furnished, and very clean and well-maintained. The separate casita (which houses the fourth bedroom) was nice for the grandparents. The pool is heated and safe (~5' at its deepest point), with nice features like selectable colored lighting. The property's location within the gated Mission Hills community was ideal. We took daily runs around the community, and we were able to walk with the kids to the clubhouse to watch the Kraft Nabisco LPGA championship with the kids. The property also is close to the River shopping mall and restaurants, Agua Caliente casino (for the gambling grandparents), multiple golf courses, Costco, and Walmart. The owners were very accommodating, working with us to solve an early problem with the internet access.
Recommended for:Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children.

Friends and I got lucky finding this amazing home in such a perfect location to celebrate our "50" Birthday Year!!!! Its a beautiful home inside and out, very comfortable & elegant! VERY CLEAN and well maintained. Photos are very accurate! Sound system was perfect for inside & out!! ~ The location is central. Close to shopping at The River in Palm Desert to going to the Street Fair in Palm Springs!
Recommended for:People with disabilities, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children.
