Swimming in the pool under a full moon. Bouganvillea climbing the walls - fuchsia, violet and orange flowers set against a clear blue sky Rum cocktails and fish cakes at sunset.

Tamarind House is located just off the Anse Chastanet Road approximately 1.5 miles from Soufriere and .5 miles from Anse Chastanet Beach. It is a 10 minute walk down to the beach and a 20 minute hike back up the hill. Covering 8850 Sq. Ft. of space, the house is constructed of local stone with exceptionally high 25 foot ceilings and Barbados terracotta tiles throughout. The main house has three bedrooms and bathrooms while the separate Cottage is a master bedroom suite with its own living room, kitchen, dressing area, four poster king size bed and terrace.

The 35 x 15 foot totally private pool is situated below the Cottage and has 1060 sq ft of terrace and shade pavilion around it. The pool edge is open on one side to give uninterrupted views of the Pitons. The house also has a professional size tennis court with a Bioflex surface and of course superb views of the Pitons as you play.

In the main house, a descending staircase leads you into a cool, circular courtyard filled with banana plants and flowers. As you pass through the graceful stone arch doorway, the enormous 2550 sq ft living room stretches away before you and leads to the terrace where the tamarind tree grows up out of the tiles. This fabulous tree provides shade and coolness to the house all through the day. The living room features two seven foot settees and a very large travertine stone coffee table. The round reproduction antique dining table seats 6-8.

The master bedroom has a beautiful king size four poster bed, side tables, hand carved standing cheval mirror and small armoire. There is a walk in closet with a safe, Italian tiled bathroom with shower and double sinks. Open the shower doors and look at the Pitons while bathing! There is a walk in closet and two blue and white Chinese lamps beside the bed. The third bedroom is for children and has two four poster beds, a double and a twin. It looks out onto a private terrace and the courtyard. The Cottage master bedroom suite has three graceful stone arch openings and 25 foot ceilings. Long white curtains at each doorway billow out in the breeze. Grand & Gorgeous Tamarind House
5/5

A Glorious ten days

Date of Stay: 02/04/11 Review Submitted: 02/15/11

We are now coming to the end of a glorious ten days staying at Tamarind House. The house has exceeded our expectations in every respect. The views are spectacular (the most photographed on the island!) The rooms spacious and all with mosquito nets. On the hottest days a cool breeze wafts through the property which was a help for those of us who didn't want to soak up the sun. The house is 5 minutes from Anse Chastanet beach which has excellent snorkelling and safe waters, some of the best on the island. You do need a four wheel drive car to get the best from this property. The botanical gardens and sulphur baths just outside Soufriere are well worth a visit and the Saturday market in Soufriere is a great opportunity to see and buy local produce. Ann and Cheryl looked after our every need with fresh towels, delicious meals and an endless array of brilliant ice cream. Topped with rum and sitting on the terrace with a view of the Pitons - unforgetable! For the more energetic among us there was tennis and we all enjoyed the swimming pool - again a spectacular view. We can't wait to come back again!

Grand & Gorgeous Tamarind House
5/5

Date of Stay: 01/29/09 Review Submitted: 01/29/09

Gorgeous is right! and private, spacious, fantastic! This house is absolutely wonderful! The pictures here are nice, but the house is so much more. We just returned from staying a week (1/10-17/09) and it was heavenly. So spacious and open, with views beyond description from every room. (Really- take a shower while gazing at the Pitons!) The house was built about 30 years ago, and since then the flowers and trees seem to have grown the house into the side of the mountain. The stone walls of the house are about 18 inches thick, with a light white plastering on the inside which still shows the stone texture, the ceilings are high and made of wood (Honduran mahogany?) the floors are tile from Barbados. The outside is brought in by opening the huge wooden doors to the terraces and voila! The ocean and the Pitons and the incredible flowers! The swimming pool is on its own level down stone and tile steps through bougainvilleas galore. More than half the pool area is open to the sea and Pitons view. One end has a covered area providing shade with billowy white curtains and comfy padded loungers. The flowers- and the hummingbirds!- just go on and on. And then there's the food! Two wonderful women came in from about 9-2 daily, very non-intrusive, keeping everything clean, beds made, towels re-stocked, etc, and cooking. Yes, cooking- we had most of our meals at the house and they were all delicious! We are vegetarians, and they had no problem accommodating us. We communicated before arriving about the food, and paid there for the supplies that were purchased for us. We could have shopped ourselves as well, but ended up not needing to. Everything was fresh and local, fabulous salads, soups, quiche, casseroles, and fresh squeezed juices- orange, grapefruit, passion fruit, and ginger limeade! And homemade lemon ice cream and passion fruit sorbet! Can you tell we enjoyed that?! Oh, and we each had a massage-! The owner arranged for an incredible massage therapist to come to the house! The owner is on the property adjacent to the house- she is so gracious, friendly, and welcoming. She provided the initial tour of the house, and was available for information sharing, and never intrusive. She is also the talented artist responsible for many of the beautiful paintings throughout the house. The house is located about ten minutes to town via a steep and challenging road- ok, really, the owner is right, you do need four wheel drive. Also about ten minutes
